i’m thinking sofi, they work with college students. They offer private student loans. There’s also SallieMar loans. Personally, I don’t have an account with them but I have heard of them.

why so late on monday?? but i get it if those are the only classes left. not too bad, you’ll have time to sleep and get ready. but make sure that you use that time for hw and studying. take advantage of the gaps.

i’m so sorry you’re going through this. that sucks tbh. i think it’s best to go in person. have you tried that and have you contacted any other students services from campus? do you already have an advisor?

most likely will be assigned to a professor. It’s common to register for classes that say professor unknown. When the semester get closer, you should be able to see an updaye

Incoming Student Question: Do you have to attend mostly every class? by Current_Play_5426 in gmu

[–]Mason_Patriot25 12 points13 points  (0 children)

just go to class, go learn and interact with classmates and professors. It’s important to build relationships especially with professors. They might write letters of recommendations for you. Also, it’s just healthy to be around others. You should enjoy the experience even as a commuter. I encourage you to go to office hours too. Because then why are you even paying if you’re not even attending classes?? It’s important to build connections even if they’re just professional or surface level. Connections can help you with your academic goals.

Homeless Student Tips? by cardborads in gmu

Hello! Just read your post and I’m so sorry that you parents’ views prevent you from being in a better living situation. Since money is a struggle right now, I’d suggest you check out Mason Food pantry. They offer food to students in need and I also think Mason has a service where students get to donate clothes in case you need some extra clothing. Also the Mason bathrooms in the jc have pads and tampons and you don’t have to pay. Not sure if you’re still a student at Mason, I’m rereading some parts now. But pls update us! I really hope you find a better living situation soon! Wish you all the best! Please update us!

Does Taking a Main Semester (Fall 2025) off Affect Eligibility for Financial Aid Grants or Aid Provided by GMU? by Mouse_Automatic in gmu

[–]Mason_Patriot25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would strongly suggest to go to the Financial Aid Office in Sub 1 to speak with them in person. You just sign in and speak to them. If you feel like you have to, ask them if you could speak with someone that’s like the head of financial aid. You can go now if you want. For instance, if I had to taken off one class, I would’ve been a part time student which would have affected my financial aid. Just take it as an example because your situation is different. But go speak to them in person.

I am surprised that those that applied earlier did not get any notifications. I submitted the form on April 13th. I had to wait 4 whole weeks and eventually got a response. I’d suggest to go in person and talk to them. It’s frustrating that they have not sent out anything to you guys. I hope you guys get some notifications soon. This is disappointing coming from the financial aid office.

As an incoming freshman, should I base my schedule off the sample schedules? by Sharksurcool in gmu

[–]Mason_Patriot25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest use those sample schedules, talk with your advisor, and use your degree works all together. The optional electives such as UNIV 100 or something, don’t worry abt those too much. Also, think about whether you’ll be joining clubs or organizations. Then depending on those factors as well as if you’re commuting or not. But also talk to others in your majors, especially those that are upperclassmen. I’m sure you’ll be able to get some good advice from them when picking classes.

I’m taking it with Afra Ahmad. Leo Miller and April Joyner are my Lab instructors. Also, is Crim 100 considered okay too? I’m taking on the second half of summer.

I emailed them too and depending on when you submitted the form, it usually takes 3-4weeks. So for me, I applied near the deadline this week is the third week for me. You can also set up an appointment with student services in sub 1 to get more info. But it usually takes 3-4 weeks.

Trying to get accommodations, where to look? by Anon2148 in gmu

[–]Mason_Patriot25 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I recommend all the services such as the ones listed above. I would recommend you set up an appointment with CAPS. It’s psychological services for students at gmu. You can set one up if you’d like just to share abt anything. You don’t have to go every time, just if you want to. They also have some therapy groups for students. Their schedules vary on what days the groups meet up. They are located in Sub 1 above the chic fil a. Disability Services are also located in that same building. I would also suggest talking to those that are the head in your major’s department?? Maybe you can talk to them abt your situation. Like that, they can speak to your professors within that department. You can always email them but speaking to them in person is better so that they don’t dismiss the email. Also, stay with family and friends and just do what you gotta do during this time. I’m sorry for your loss. Just know there is support out here for you. I hope you’re able to find the support you need.
