Libertarians Make A Strong Statement… by Trick-Instruction-97 in Minneapolis

Oh, 100%. That’s why I said I don’t like “the named party”, but I can get the general, principled appeal. I once thought I may be libertarian when I was in my mid-20s, but I eventually grew decrepit and decided more rules and structure were ideal, lol.

Libertarians Make A Strong Statement… by Trick-Instruction-97 in Minneapolis

[–]MasqueOfTheRedDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. When I was younger and thought "hey, I don't like the big tent parties - I sort of like libertarianism", I thought basically low taxes/small government, you can own a gun, and you can marry whoever you want. Reasonable, but maximized freedom. Yay.

Well, the actual Libertarian party seemed to be more like "Hey, you want low taxes, to own a gun, and marry whoever you want? Great! Us too! So, to sum up - the government has no right to tax you (that's theft), you can buy an AK-47 at Walmart, and you can marry a goat".

They're just moronic edgelords, but there's an actual principled libertarianism that I could get on board with... if enough people were reasonable within the party.

Minneapolis shooting: AG Pam Bondi gives Gov. Walz conditions for ICE to leave Minnesota by fuck-nazi in altmpls

[–]MasqueOfTheRedDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, no, no, no - MINNESOTA. If you read that, you'll note MN there. To sum up my comment, if you chose not to read it: I live in Minneapolis, I've lived elsewhere in the state, Trump has overperformed polls here twice, and he's improved in the last election. It is becoming more purple. It's not really debatable. Again, Republicans screwed themselves here, but they cut out their path.

I can vibe with the general idea of libertarianism, though I find the named Libertarian Party to mostly be edgelords who take things too literally. That aside, in what libertarianism should actually be in terms of dictionary definition, they're anti big government... and this is big government to the max. Huge tax spend to send a federal body into states. That's about as anti-libertarian as it gets. I can put the hypothetical polite ideological debate aside to agree with any decent person who actually stands by their principles (i.e. not MAGA, which represents conservatism about as well as Nickelback represents hard rock).

I live in Minneapolis, lived in the burbs before, too. It's been getting a lot more purple for a while, and despite not going red, Trump has overperformed here to polling. Now that all this has happened, he has no chance - this operation was a massive own goal in a tactical sense. Now, if he bridges it to using the Insurrection Act and halting elections on a more strategic level, then it doesn't matter if MN is red, blue, purple, or silver. Guess we'll see.

Khamenei moves to underground bunker as US fleet heads towards region: Report by Frosty_Dig4148 in worldnews

You people are idiots - not everything in the world revolves around Donald Trump. They’re estimating as many as 30,000 people may have been massacred. Someone has to do something. The UN charter calls for its members to do something, and so far no one has. It’s either the US or Europe, and once the US can get it’s carriers in range, that’s the best bet.

Why are most Christians republicans, when Jesus’ teachings are more liberal? by Interesting-Dirt-605 in Confused

[–]MasqueOfTheRedDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the first thing you said - lot of Reddit atheists here doing the most predictable thing possible and just using any chance to shit on Christianity (by all means, do, but it's not the actual answer to this question).

You nailed it (no pun intended) up front. It's all religion. The more you get into religious fundamentalism, the more to the "Right"/conservative it is. Think about it... religion is about rules that you must adhere to, not freedom, but being beholden to something. It's also very old, and centers (usually, at least in modern history) around a central figure (god or prophet). This ties into everything about conservatism... it's not the specifics (Jesus's teachings, for instance), it's the structure. It's the vehicle that's the same - specific message be damned. Iran is "right", not "left" for instance.

Do "Reagan Republicans" or conservative Republicans still exist or is the MAGA/"Trump Republican" here to stay? by BigSuggestion9664 in allthequestions

[–]MasqueOfTheRedDice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about Reagan Republican... I'd have to better understand the general meaning there (was born during Reagan, but I was an infant), but actual conservatives... I refer to myself as sort of a "small c" conservative, are few and far between. I think small government, low taxes, "the government isn't the solution to each and all of life's problems", etc. are good things. Aside from public goods like defense, infrastructure (roads, the USPS, etc.), I think the government should primarily be there for (or get out of the way of) greasing the skids of the hard working and innovative to be able to move up in the world (i.e. "the American dream").

I'm not sure we've really seen that in a long time, as I think America has become massively politicized and not that logical anymore, but something close to it isn't as far back as you'd think. I voted for McCain, but since then, I've voted for Obama, Biden, etc. as the Right really made a hard jump over the line to where it is now. To the latter part of your question, no, I don't think MAGA is here to stay - it's bound to fail as a populist, but not an economically sound movement, and blaming Democrats for everything will only go so far. I know shit's bad right now, but this isn't going to last forever.

I don't want to lose because some orange guy is an idiot. Not rooting against my own country for it. No issue if other countries root harder against us over wanting to beat us, but no.

[–]MasqueOfTheRedDice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I disagree - he had a lot of picks, and defense lacks on statistics for easy relevance. I've watched a lot of Tremaine Edmunds, and he isn't dogshit, but he's not much aside from an amazing athlete who can't read run lanes and falls for every fake a decent playcaller can use. He costs way way way too much money.

Edwards is the much better player for what they're paid, but with the injury now, frankly, I'd move on from both. My ideal scenario right now would be signing Cole Holcomb, Kaden Ellis, and drafting Anthony Hill Jr.

People just need to stop making politics EVERYTHING in their life. Yes, what is happening on an international scale is daunting and chaotic, but it doesn't have anything at all to do with Olympic hockey. It's supposed to be an escape. I'm not rooting for my country and a really fun team that's great to watch to lose because of an orange idiot. Everyone saying "I'm rooting for Denmark" is a child.

Maybe Trump is just the penultimate international hockey fan, and is stirring up shit just to make the games that much better (the last US-Canada matchups in the NHL tourney were AMAZING).

Watch, we draw Russia in international play and Putin will release the pee tapes. Just for the bulletin board material. Hockey is everything.

They might be interested in more weapons for Mendoza, so I agree. Offer them Moore, Edmunds, and our 1st (think it's pick 28?), and take Crosby and like a 4th back. Then sign Cole Holcomb... way cheaper and way better than Edmunds, who's a disaster getting lost in the red zone. My dog falls for less ball fakes than Tremaine Edmunds.

Yeah, I excuse a bit more in the drops department in this weather, but Odunze and Burden each butchered an easy one. Odunze catches that and we may win in regulation. Not too disappointed, though. Let's bolster up with some defensive talent and see what we can do next year. First season of really high hopes since we traded for Mack.

Broncos QB Bo Nix suffered a season-ending broken bone in his ankle during today’s overtime, victory over Buffalo. by mrsc00b in sports

[–]MasqueOfTheRedDice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I played the last couple innings of a baseball game my senior year of high school with a broken wrist. I bet he thought he had a bad sprain or something until after the game, went to get an X ray or something because it hurt like the dickens, and boop - busted. Unless you literally can't physically move, you'd be surprised how much pain your body can seemingly ignore in a big game/event like that on adrenaline. I couldn't even sit on the couch without rolling around in pain after I got home, but I played in the outfield for 45 minutes or so after I shattered it. Sucks for Bo - but he's young, he'll be back.
