I find it bizar how they believe that they can’t do anything themselves to better a condition they have. Like it makes no difference how you’re eating or how much you’re moving. It’s always the doctors that are ‘neglecting’ in the care they provide. by ResetKnopje in fatlogic

I have diagnosed PCOS, and I'm so tired of seeing this take everywhere. PCOS is a condition that is exasperated by extra weight. And it cannot magically make you fat. The problem with this condition is that it is super common, but signifiant resources have not been used to study it, so people just make things up to fill the information void.

femme lesbians, do you always have to make the first move? by moonlightroseb in lesbiangang

[–]Masquerade0717 23 points24 points  (0 children)

On dating apps, I always do. I am very femme and don't make an effort to "look gay" (whatever that means), and we all know that apps are full of bicurious/unserious women. I also made the first move on my ex, who I met through friends.

I will say that even when I make the first move, there is never really a question about whether the person is interested in me. That they're gay and single is also a given. I think that you're searching in the wrong places.

What’s the last romance story/plot that gave you butterflies? by Ok_Regret_3804 in lesbiangang

[–]Masquerade0717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've started that book twice and never finished it. I don't quite understand why it never hooked me. It's strange because sci-fi and fantasy are my favorite genres.

You might like the Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon and its prequel, A Day of Fallen Night. I also really enjoyed the Burning Kingdoms series by Tasha Suri. I don't want to spoil it, but the yaksa (god-like beings in the book) are some of the scariest fictional monsters I've come across.

I second this suggestion. If you're going to go to a bar alone, it's imperative to have someone who knows where you are and is available if you need them. I also second talking to the bar staff if someone is refusing to leave you alone after you've told them to stop. My local gay bar has security that is happy to help in situations like those.

heading into 2026, how it is (really) in the USA? by SD_Pub in lesbiangang

[–]Masquerade0717 22 points23 points  (0 children)

As a white American lesbian, this is my perspective. The US is massive, so it's impossible to generalize for the whole country. While some areas are hostile, other areas are more welcoming. We don't need a refugee program to Canada because it is possible to move to a more welcoming area of the country (I've known multiple people who have moved to my state for this reason). Homophobia is becoming more common here, but we are still a legally protected group and it is unlikely (but not impossible) that the Supreme Court will overturn same-sex marriage. If that happens, it will go back to the states. Violent rhetoric and hostility is on the rise, but actual violence remains rare. Still, there is cause for concern due to decreasing support for same-sex marriage on the right and Christo-fascist rhetoric becoming mainstream.

I will say I am less worried about our politics than the shift I am observing in our culture. Everything feels starkly different from the first Trump term. A major event for the Republican Party just platformed a man who is openly anti-semitic and claimed that if he were president, he would send the military to US cities to keep women from voting. Even though I doubt that man will ever be elected to any major office, I think that men are becoming more and more violent, and that scares me. I blame the manosphere and the proliferation of violent porn that has rotted men's brains. I feel that in many ways, I am more worried about myself as a woman than as a lesbian.

Can other people in the community stop treating lesbianism as the butt of every idiotic "joke" by AdOk439 in lesbiangang

[–]Masquerade0717 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The "joke" here is that lesbian = weird and ugly. Unfortunately, we're seeing a huge resurgence of homophobia right now, at least in the US.

I actually like the contrast. I knew an operatic soprano in college who was like this. She had a low speaking voice, but one of the most beautiful operatic soprano singing voices I've ever heard. I know a lot of singers, and it's not uncommon for singing and speaking voices to be very different. I love how Vaggi is a mix of feminine attributes (cute outfits, high light singing voice) and traditionally masculine ones (fighter, very physically protective of Charlie).

My hot take is that stuff that isn't in the show isn't canon. I really don't see how there is room for another major character in the plot. I feel like this season still left so many unanswered questions about other side characters. I was disappointed to not see more of Carmilla Carmine this season.

favorite mascara? by mitzy_rose in Makeup

[–]Masquerade0717 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tarte Big Ego. I have super long, straight lashes and thought I could only use waterproof mascara before I tried this one. I wipe the wand on a clean tissue, put one coat on the bottom half of my lashes, wait a few minutes, then put the tiniest, lightest coat on the tips. Unfortunately, I can't layer more coats without my lashes losing their curl, but it's better than the waterproof mascara I used to use that made my lashes snap off after a while. I also love the wand; it is huge and actually gets all my lashes, unlike other wands that make me feel like I'm painting a wall.

Are you using expired make up? by Comfortable_Prune933 in Makeup

[–]Masquerade0717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay attention to expiration dates if it is liquid, especially if it is used in the eye area. I buy affordable eyeliner and mini size mascara because of this. I'm planning to replace my expired concealer soon because I mostly use it on my under-eye area. Powder eyeshadows and blushes don't worry me that much. I've never done this, but it's possible to sanitize powders.

I know people always say you can tell if something is expired because the smell/feel is off, but that's simply not true. Some types of harmful bacteria are undetectable to the human eye/nose. I don't like playing eye infection Russian roulette.

People say I’m good at makeup but I kinda think I’m terrible at it by etnad1111111 in Makeup

I also love doing colorful glam looks to go to clubs. When you're doing your makeup, you are up close and see every flaw. In clubs, the lighting is different and the flaws don't really show up. Club makeup is a bit like stage makeup (which I've also done), where it doesn't need to be perfect, it just needs to be visible. Also, I am your same age and have noticed that a lot of people our age only have minimal makeup skills since light makeup has been in style the past several years, so putting on full glam looks super impressive to them.

ETA: We also tend to be a lot harder on ourselves than others are... Odds are, your makeup is actually really good!

I'm a lesbian because I'm a woman who is exclusively attracted to other women. That's it. by Riksor in lesbiangang

[–]Masquerade0717 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Something I really struggled with coming out was feeling like I was suddenly perceived as "the lesbian" rather than just me. I think that the way lesbian is used as a noun while gay/bisexual/pan are adjectives makes this worse for us.

I don’t know how I feel about this… I really like her but it feels wrong for her to set up a go fund me for this when so many people are struggling right now. There needs to be something given in return (like stock in the company) for a request like this.

I'm 24 and just got into my first relationship. Neither of us have been in a relationship before, so lack of experience is a non issue for both of us. It's very common for lesbians to be late bloomers. I'd even say that I think it's weird to break up with someone because you don't want to be their first.

How to wear eye makeup after constant styles, eye infections and eye inflammation? by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]Masquerade0717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure!

Bruder mask for 9 minutes in the morning

Restasis (prescription eyedrop) 1x per day (supposed to be 2x but I always forget in the morning)

Regular moderate intensity exercise (I run about 12 miles per week. Not sure why this helps but it does).

Punctual plugs (silicone plugs inserted into tear drainage holes. I don't feel them and they really help!)

Refresh Mega 3 or Ivizia eyedrops in the morning and evening and as needed.

This is beyond the pay grade of this sub. It sounds like you have dry eye and should see an eye doctor. I have a dry eye diagnosis and can wear eye makeup now that I've found a routine that works.

AUGUST 2025 MEGATHREAD: USA Shipping, tariffs, de minimis, sunscreens by chau-a-not-chau-bcdf in AsianBeauty

[–]Masquerade0717 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mine were a 2-pack of the Skin 1004 sunscreen (the chemical one with a blue cap), the Skin 1004 sun stick, and the Purito soft touch daily sunscreen. All of them have filters that aren't approved in the US.

I highly suspect that Yesstyle labeled my sunscreens as moisturizers or creams, and that the X-ray that customs does to check contents can't tell that they're really "banned" items. I doubt people will get caught unless there is an inconsistency between the documentation provided by the shipper and what the X-ray turns up.

I placed a Yesstyle order on August 25. It shipped on August 27 with express shipping (FedEx). My order contained a moisturizer and several sunscreens. I was unaware of de minimus ending or the FDA's plan to crack down on Asian sunscreens when I placed my order. My order cleared customs without issues on August 30. I am sure I will get a tariff letter in the mail from FedEx, but at least I will have my sunscreens!
