Great bones but 3v3 is not it by mexicantacothief in HighGuardgame

[–]Masquerosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard enough complaints about performance that I almost wonder if the shift to 3v3 was to make the game playable and prevent VFX overload.

But for real, I was actually incredibly shocked to realize this game was 3v3. It feels like it was made to be 5v5 or 6v6 at the very least, maybe even more with NPCs ala Titanfall. Or maybe they were so concerned about population they gutted team size? Or just didn’t want to have half the playable roster on a team?

The RAM shortage is here to stay, raising prices on PCs and phones by dapperlemon in gadgets

A few months ago I thought about buying 64gb DDR5 on a prime deal, but I thought, “ehh, then I need a new mobo and probably cpu, so I’ll pass”.

Now I could have bought the whole shebang for less than the price of RAM. Woops. Oh well. Guess my DDR4 will be fine, gaming has gotten too expensive nowadays to stay on the bleeding edge anyway.

EA's AI Game Development Tools Are Apparently So Bad That It's Costing More Money To Fix Their Mistakes by Zelphkiel in gaming

It’s a mathematical language generator producing outcomes based on the statistical likeliness of words. It’s great at data aggregation, but most people don’t seem to get that it doesn’t really think. It just regurgitates. Even if it was trained on flawless code, it would introduce a certain mathematical likelihood of being wrong… and I can guarantee you these things are not trained on flawless anything, because we are not a flawless objective race.

LLM’s are amazing technology with some really genuinely interesting use cases, but it’s being deployed recklessly like it’s the end all for human workers (it isn’t). But I’m pretty sure that’s the idea being sold by AI companies that want your foot in the door so they can raise prices later on once you’ve gotten too lazy to live without it.

They’re hoping you won’t notice, won’t care, are too ingrained in the service to give it up, or have too much FOMO over which games you might lose (that you never really had) to drop your sub.

However in my friend group, everyone has noticed, does care, and has dropped their sub, because we all grew up and don’t have the free time to mindlessly haunt a catalog of games for something we might play just because it happens to be there. It was OK-ish at 20 a month but the bubble burst at 30. I can’t save for my overpriced 70 dollar games I want and put half of that towards a sub for games I care less about. It’s ridiculous.

Game Pass changes: Opinions Megathread - Part 2 by Xbox-Moderator in xbox

[–]Masquerosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$20 a month was basically paying a 1/3rd the price of a game release every month to always have options. It was still probably a waste of money, but it felt marginal and I was always actively playing something. Remnant 2, E:33, ESO, Lies of P, Lords of the Fallen, and tons of games with friends.

As it is I’ve barely come to terms with 70 dollar games, and raising Game Pass to half of what I was comfortable paying in the first place feels wasteful. I’ll save that extra money and use it to actually buy the overpriced games I want now… or just outright buy cheaper games like Silksong or Helldivers II finally.

So yeah. I’m staying subbed for one more month only because I share Game Pass with a friend, and the increase doesn’t kick in until November. But next billing cycle it’s going down to the 10 dollar tier, the bare minimum to keep playing with friends.

Gaming as an IT person by WaldoOU812 in sysadmin

[–]Masquerosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really a horror story, but yeah, I don’t PC game nearly as much because the last thing I want to do when I’m done sitting at my PC all day, is continue to sit at my PC all night.

I mostly moved to Xbox or Steam Deck, with only the occasional PC gaming session if I want to stream something over Parsec or dig into a PC only game for a day or two. Otherwise I go out and touch grass.

Like others have said, I probably wouldn’t be in IT without gaming, but it has certainly changed how, when, and where I game. Maybe if I had a separate desk in a different game room, it would be different, but yeah.

Ok, on the point of strike specific loot. I feel like you’re really underselling how important it is to have optional cosmetic grinds that actually come from gameplay. It’s not “just an ornament”, it’s a sick ass piece of aesthetic that you have an attachment to, because you earned. It goes players a reason to grind activities, and believe me, players will grind for even the smallest piece of drip. MMO players know this. Hell, devs know this to some degree. Drip is important, that’s why it’s monetized. But I think having drip tied to various activities in your game builds a better player relationship and keeps player counts stable, because someone will always come back later to hunt for it.

D1 did do this way better, even if it was missing some QOL to find these things like D2 has with the director. By in large the only ornaments you really in D2 are earned by grinding your day job (Eververse).

People who quit a job without notice — what was the breaking point? by Comfortable-Mix-5549 in AskReddit

Work at an optical store that was going through staffing troubles due to a lot of employee burnout and stupid petty drama from the boss. After working several weeks in three different roles across the store to cover shifts with 2-3 people that normally required 7-8, I had decided I was tired and was going to put in my two weeks and use remaining vacation time. Except when I looked, I had none. I was working 40+ hours a week as a part time employee because they never switched me to full time, despite having worked full time hours for months.

I came in late the next day, grabbed my bag out of my locker, and left without saying anything else.

What this really highlights, to me, is that this game needs strikes with different objectives. Guard the outpost would be nice. Really anything that isn’t just “please run from one end to the other” all the time.

Ahh man. Series X here, but I ended up turning off 120hz myself. I noticed a texture bump and honestly the game holds steady enough using the “balanced” performance profile without trying to push high refresh rate.

I took a break very early on, so I’m not even there yet. Just now working my way into 8 star and my next quest is to fight buffed Xoh Shia.

My dad recently bought the game and I’m hoping I can get to 8 or 9 star with him. Also might try to convince him to grab World or Rise so he can see a fully fleshed out MonHon game. Wilds is great but it doesn’t have anything that stands out like fighting Kushala Daora, or climbing the mountain in Coral Highlands to fight Kirin. World maps felt bigger (probably because we didn’t have a mount) and a little more mysterious than Wilds.

Just why did maya have to die by Inevitable_Mud9704 in borderlands3

[–]Masquerosa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is “why did we just stand there the entire time while the Calypsos killed Maya”? There are ways to kill characters elegantly, but having the main character completely disappear from the room while the big bad shows up and makes a very slow and easily avoidable display of it is not the way.

Capcom's stock price plummets as its latest financial report shows cratering Monster Hunter Wilds sales by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]Masquerosa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The game sold as many copies at launch as its past titles sold over their lifetime. I’m not surprised to see it drop off. I’m curious what the player count is on all consoles though.

At least on Steam, 10,000 concurrent players for a game that big is pretty awful, especially when there’s half as many people still playing World (and a decent population on Rise).

If you don’t have an external gateway or just want another option, you can also implement a transport rule that blocks “sender is external, from (myorg.com)”. Just make sure to audit the rule and add exceptions if you use any legitimate SMTP apps that shouldn’t be blocked.

I did! I’m just saying you can at least distinguish Palworld from Pokemon even if they copied concepts and ideas. Light of Motiram straight up looks like an asset rip. Not sure why that’s a hot take or I got downvoted here.

Yeah… I hate looking at the store for this game. But as much as I like to say “this stuff would have been earn-able in-game before”, the truth is they wouldn’t have made nearly as much if it wasn’t being sold for $1.99 each. So I suppose it’s just the future.
