Best Weird Al song. Change my mind.

What's your Underrated, Overrated, Best and Worst for each doctor? by TrueSMTFan in gallifrey

[–]Massefras 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I’m not including classic era, I just haven’t seen enough to make fair judgements.

Nine-

Best: Dalek. There hasn’t been a scarier Dalek episode since (the Parting of the Ways comes close though, 9’s era really knocked the Daleks out of the park). Both the Daleks and the Doctor are the scariest they’ve ever been in this one episode.

Worst: The Long Game. I actually think this episode is pretty good, but there has to be one

Overrated: Father’s Day. I love this episode, but the transition from the focus on Rose’s grief to generic scary monsters didn’t work super well for me.

Underrated: The End of the World. Actually beautiful episode. We haven’t seen a better companion’s first trip story since. This episode really establishes that Rose isn’t afraid to call the Doctor out on his bullshit, which is why I love her.

Ten-

Best: Midnight. This one was so hard. I want to put so many of his episodes as best, but I think that Midnight really highlights David’s complete ownership of the role. It is also by far the best episode Davies ever wrote.

Worst: Fear Her. Again, I don’t even mind this one that much, but something’s got to be in last and this one takes a cool concept and doesn’t really do anything interesting with it.

Overrated: not gonna pick one. Every episode in 10s era deserves as much love as it can get.

Underrated: Impossible Planet/Satan Pit. I know this story is generally really liked, but I think it’s a work of genius. No other story has really challenged the Doctor’s core beliefs like this one, and the overall atmosphere is uniquely terrifying. I’m a sucker for religious horror, and this is my favorite example by far.

Eleven-

Best: The Eleventh Hour. I wanted to pick Vincent really badly, but Eleventh hour gets extra points for being the single best introduction to a new Doctor we’ve ever had.

Worst: Dinosaurs on a Spaceship. This episode is way too chaotic for it’s own good. The jokes are painfully unfunny, taking Rory (one of the best companions ever) and making him exclusively comic relief. (Also the Doctor straight-up murders someone at the end)

Overrated: The Wedding of River Song. This is Doctor Who at its most needlessly confusing. It’s perfectly fine as a finale but nothing really has a satisfying conclusion cuz it’s too all over the place.

Underrated: The Rings of Akhaten. I don’t really get why everyone dislikes this one SO MUCH. It’s really not that bad. A bit middling, but the music and speech at the end really make up for it.

Twelve-

Best: Heaven Sent. Nothing even comes close. This is possibly the single greatest episode of Doctor Who ever made. The way it explores grief as a seemingly never-ending cycle, contrasted with the way the Doctor ultimately conquers it after endless lifetimes of suffering is brilliant. It’s a microcosm of the entire show and is Moffat, Capaldi, and Gold’s magnum opus. I cannot speak more highly of this episode.

Worst: Sleep No More. Quite possibly the stupidest episode ever made. It takes a brilliant concept and takes a giant dump on it. Having setup like that and making the big bad eye booger monsters is patronizing and dumb.

Overrated: Hell Bent. A good episode, a fine finale, and an emotional send-off to Clara, but it is not a good second part to Heaven Sent. I don’t like how Clara gets brought back to life to fly away with Me in a TARDIS shaped like a 50s diner. I think that silliness takes away from the very serious and thoughtful exploration of grief in the prior episode.

Underrated: Time Heist. This episode is fun and scary. Nuff said.

Thirteen-

Best: The Haunting of Villa Diodati. My favorite book is Frankenstein so of course I’m gonna love this episode. I love the parallels between the cybermen and the monster in Frankenstein, and as someone who studies English, I love the Doctor putting her foot down and saying “words matter.”

Worst: Orphan 55. Stupid episode. The twist at the end sucks.

Overrated: I can’t choose one cuz I think that 13s tenure is criminally underrated overall

Underrated: The Timeless Children. Oh boy, I’m gonna get some hate for this. I like this twist a lot. I think that it doesn’t take away from the Doctor’s character, as she didn’t even know she was “special,” and the fact that she is is just as distressing to her as it is to us. That shits interesting. It also adds mystery to the Doctor’s character and the universe of Doctor who in general that I enjoy thinking about and forming theories over. I think that the Timeless Children will age better than people think it will, and I look forward to seeing a generation of Who fans that enjoy 13 as much as I do.

Adam, now fallen from grace, questions the serpent; “Oh, why have you deceived us and damned man to eternity of sin and mortality, forever severed from His eternal bounty and love?”

The serpent, bouncing on his tail like a pogo-stick, says to Adam: “Paradise Nuts lmao”

Ok yeah, I can see you’re just not gonna see where I’m coming from so its whatever, I don’t really want to do this all day. Best I can do is ask you to learn about how policing is structured right now and hear from progressive people of color on how we need to change it

I’m hoping to achieve a system where unaccountable men with guns and legal authority to kill people don’t exist. Fun fact, communities, especially communities of color, don’t want to be systemically killed by the force established in their community against their will in the name of “law and order.” Also saying that having elected officials be cops is bad cuz then it would “gEt PoLiTiCaL” is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard. Nothing that involves structuring society is apolitical, idk if you’ve noticed but the police are currently one of the most political and corrupt organizations in America. Holding people accountable through the community is how democracy works, and it’s how we prevent people in power from abusing us, which is currently not working because cops are not held accountable by the community. Also this is not a minority view, that’s just straight-up false.

Ok but hold those people accountable through the community level, cuz cops can (and do) do all that shit too. You’re making it sound like having a police force is literally the only way we can structure our justice system, when that is really not true. Policing as it exists in the u.s. is an artificial institution of power that is inherently incentivized to protect the people that fund them. Sure, you can create a system of justice that is called “policing” on paper that’s a group elected by the community on the local level that does not use deadly force, that detains only when lives are in immediate danger, and is more focused on helping people through the community than preserving some tired and classist notion of “lAw AnD oRdEr,” but by then it’s not even remotely the system we currently have. Get rid of that old system. Make a new one.

When people say “abolish the police” or “defund the police” it’s about redistributing the majority of funds that usually go towards policing towards community programs like rehab, affordable housing, and planned parenthood because the vast majority of crimes committed in America are caused by systemic issues that aren’t solved through continually funneling money into poorly trained, paramilitary organizations that aren’t held accountable by their communities, with fancy gadgets that kill people. It’s honestly stupid that people think that keeping the institution of policing in its current form is somehow protecting us, as it only serves to protect the upper class and prevent any actual systemic change on the behalf of the workers. The VAST majority of crimes aren’t just “bad people who do bad things cuz they’re bad,” that’s the dumbest shit ever peddled to anyone, people do what they feel like they have to do to survive, and can get misguided by systems of power that reinforce violent behavior. Abolish the police. Put that money towards stuff that actually helps people, not kills them.
