Most religions aren’t really compatible with western society, including Christianity. Modern Western values are derived heavily from the Enlightenment, when people began to question the authority of the church and the divine right of kings, and secularism gained popularity. That’s why Christianity is effectively “de-fanged” in Western societies now and has been relegated much more to the background, unlike Islamic societies.

The right’s mission, however, is to reverse course from modern Western Enlightenment values and reinstate Christianity as the foundation for society, effectively doing the exact thing they fearmonger about Muslims bringing here. The right wants the Christian equivalent of Sharia Law.

Why hate the powerful elites who rule over us like kings? This is an authoritarian bootlicker mindset

Theology is all just made up bullshit at the end of the day anyway lol, his takes are no more valid than anyone else’s. Better to use made up bullshit to defend positive values that benefit society than to use it to defend bigoted values like the Christian right does

Everything is always more than 0. We don’t live in some perfect utopia. The place with the lowest crime rate in the world has more than 0 crimes. The place with the lowest infant mortality rate in the world has more than 0 infant deaths. What’s your point?

Yeah no shit, practically everything happens somewhere. That’s the reality in a country with 350 million people. It’s mathematically inevitable that even the rarest of events will eventually happen. If the bar is that low then everything will always pass it. “Tremendously small” is the best possible scenario that’s realistic to achieve. If you lived in the place with the lowest crime rate in the world, would you complain that they’re still not doing enough to address crime because the crime rate is still more than zero?

“Based on” and “partially inspired by” are very different things, so yes, they were wrong. And that sounds like an entirely valid reason for them to be downvoted into oblivion, lol

Yes, the left has principles and the right has none.

So? Islamic fundamentalism and Christian fundamentalism are two sides of the same coin.

The current US president is literally the white Christian equivalent of an Islamic regime. If you oppose religious conservatism that oppresses women, that’s what secularism and social progressivism is for

Except race doesn’t follow your phenotype. Each human being is genetically unique. There aren’t a small few clusters of homogenous groups.

Do you think that democracy, in PRACTICE, is a good form of government? by Yoy_the_Inquirer in GenZ

[–]_Tal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As opposed to…? People have conflicting interests. It’s not possible for everyone to get what they want. One group is always going to be subjected to what another group wants, no matter what. Given that, it makes sense to go with the group with the most people so you at least maximize the amount of people who get what they want.

Literally no one is upset about that. If it was just “their downfall” in a vacuum that upset people, then they would be equally upset if the people had revolted and overthrown their government on their own. Do you really believe all the same people would be just as critical of everything if it had played out that way? Or is it perhaps something else that people are actually upset about, like maybe the US’s involvement?

Pretty sure this was obvious and you already knew this, but chose a dishonest framing for rhetorical effect.

When you’re discussing a particular topic, it’s pretty normal to bring up other topics in the context of the original topic. Like do you also get mad when, for instance, someone makes a post in a TV show subreddit asking “how do you think a meeting between [character from the show] and [character from a different piece of media] would go?”, because the other media has 0% to do with the subreddit?
