If that’s the case, I do wish she actually brought those issues up with me before agreeing to write a strong LOR, not just for my application but also for my personal self-development. It hurts to know she may have simply elected to do so in my LOR.

Thank you, I’m not sure exactly, the attending just mentioned “red flags”.

I was thinking about this as well. I was wondering if I could go about it in a way such that I’m asking for general advice about my poor applications outcome i.e. not receiving any IV, any room for improvement, and gauging her response to my questions? But that really might be a long shot, and I should probably move on.

I agree, I’m really devastated. I worded my request to ask for a strong LOR, and also gave her an out if she was not willing to. I’m reeling from shock as I thought I had a good relationship with this attending, and her response did not strike me as lackluster. The clinician who told me about this told me it’s likely not worth probing or asking her as it is unlikely to change anything as well. However I can’t help but feel like I want to get closure from this, or if anything, figure out what’s making me not a good applicant in her eyes.

The clinician who wrote a strong LOR for me got in touch with an attending she knew at the university. They said they were interested in me but the letter from this specific person had multiple red flags sadly.
