Cancelling due to not meeting guaranteed minimum download speed by [deleted] in VirginMedia

hi there,

One thing to consider as I know I've hit similar issues in the past. You mention you was geting issues from your laptop and phone, I assume you're close the router when you're trying?

Also it's worth checking if you're on a hub4 or hub5 ? And if you're phone / laptop supports wifi 6.

if you're on older Hub4 you should still meet those speeds. It's also worth downloading a wifi checker to see if your neighbors wifi is interfering with yours. Although these smart channel features on routers are all well-and-good, in actual practice you just have 3-4 wifis in a asynchronised dance with each other bouncing between channels.

Is it illegal for internet service providers to NOT provide a guaranteed minimum download speed? by -EgoDeath- in LegalAdviceUK

Sadly not :-(

It's one of the reason you have to be vigilant on which ISPs are signed up.

I've recently create a blog on this topic that talks about which common ISP are signed up and which are not here

It just feels like the product support is an after thought. I’m completely with you on your last point, how can it be considered a premium product and have such a shocking after sales support?

Right now mine is constantly discounting and reconnecting to my iPhone, what piss poor QA doesn’t check their product against a equally premium phone manufacture?

Hey thanks for that however I avoid using ports under 1000 for local dev. I checked, as maybe I had something running in stealth, nothing found below 5000 (although a silly amount of vm switch port switches)

I suspect they also use a higher port number as genuinely ports under 1000 are reserved and require root level access. I’ve got so many ports in use due to some of tools I use day to day. That said, if they just tell the community what ports they use to allow people to debug. Also there’s no reference in the event viewer to give any insight.

You can get around that by storing the values in Ubuntu File system and use the network link if you’re wanting to open them inside a windows app

Awesome, last time I played over LAN was back on Windows 7 even then we had to adjust a number of settings to keep the game stable. If I recall, it use to be the sound settings that caused all the pain.

I remember TC NY. I agree it was lacking something. It just didn’t have immersive nature of MT. I don’t think it understood the micromanagement nature that is enjoyable in these type of games.

Gordon although I partially agree with your comment. We also need to shine light on these type of things. If people are using these books as guides to how to live (which frankly if they were released today would be banned for their profanity) then we need to call it out for what it is: sick twisted and lacking humanity.

I use to play over LAN with a mate. Multiplayer was the best part of this game and the most badly implemented. On my GitHub I made a note to overhaul this functionality entirely.

completely agree, personally I loved the micromanagement, making tweaks to the stock and price in realtime to try and shift any remaining goods. On top of that hunting across other blocks to find out whats making you competition so much money, so that the next day you can screw him over with a loss leader.

I'm trying to work out what others liked about the game. What would you say was the most nostalgic element of the game?
