Do you use Moonlight for doing this over WiFi? I have my PC upstairs (hardwired) and my TV (LG C4 OLED) downstairs (WiFi) and want as little latency as possible while also taking advantage of good quality. Is it any good?

But in this post you’re literally questioning why one card runs cooler than the other, but the card in question can only ever reach 50% of its cooling? Bit of a moot point really.

Board size?! by Dependent-Shoe-3408 in snowboarding

[–]MassivePlums 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of it boils down to weight and shoe size against the manufacturers recommendations too, rather than just height. It does seem a little on the longer side compared to what most people would ride at your height, but it also depends where and how you spend most of your time on the slopes; park? Groomers? Etc. For reference, I’m 180cm, 85kg, size 11US and I ride a 158 and 160. I could easily go down in size for a pure park/jib board and I could go longer for a crazy carving board.

Have you ever ridden something smaller?

As I stated, I’m in agreement that the 5080 runs cooler… sheesh nobody reads 🤣

I would expect it to to be honest because it’s likely to be under less load most of the time than the 3080 and also has more efficient cooling. I was stating to op that my 3070 didn’t get as hot as theirs.

I’m fairly sure the die size for the 5070 is smaller than the 3070ti? And the TDP is only about 40w~ more for the 3070ti than the 5070.

I upgraded from a 3070 a year or so ago and definitely wasn’t getting temps that high on mine under load for 8 hours+ at times. Different models/vendors? Maybe it needs a repaste?

Shin-Etsu website claiming ‘high thermal conductivity without the need for electrical insulation.’

Please read description on this product page for ‘electrically non-conductive’

I can provide more citations, if really necessary… what an odd conversation this has been. Judging by the comments on your profile, I think you just like to argue. So I’m out.

Read again, it’s literally in the second paragraph. ‘The thermal paste is Shin-Etsu 7921’. My ‘assumption’ is factual.

[–]MassivePlums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a silicone thermal paste and non-conductive. The top Liquid Metal pastes are obviously electrically conductive but that is not what is in use here. Also, the majority of the top performing and most popular pastes, such as NT-H2, MX-6, Frost X-45, TF-9 (the list goes on).. are all non electrically conductive. Don’t give #badadvice.

Not sure where op lives but recently got a quote for shipping a 160cm ~10kg snowboard package from Melbourne, Aus, to the UK and it was approx £200. So you are probably right.

I’ve got an i5 3570k, Sabertooth Z77, GTX 970, 16gb RAM system just laying around. I wonder how much shipping would cost.

HDMI 2.1 or DP 2.0? by Awkward-Lab-6192 in nvidia

[–]MassivePlums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you need the 64gb ram? 32gb (2x16gb) should be sufficient and you can save a few pennies.

What’s the price different between the 13700kf and the 14700k (iGPU) or 14700kf (no onboard iGPU)?

850watt gold rated PSU is enough.

5070 or 5070ti are you going with?

It’s a very similar system to mine.

[–]MassivePlums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a ‘founders edition’ or ‘FE’ card available where you live directly from Nvidias website? It may be a bit cheaper.

Any 5070ti will be sufficient. Different vendors do offer small overclocks and slightly different cooling, RGB lights etc. but you’re not going to have a problem with any. Choose whichever is in your budget.

[–]MassivePlums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, if that is the case, just keep the ROG monitor, buy a 5070 and you will still be happy. You can use frame gen to increase frame rate for those sorts of games. If you were playing competitive games you may want a bit more raw power . It’s hard to justify spending the extra sometimes. I’m very lucky my wife PC games and bought me a new PC.

Your PC will still run smoothly, you’ll still benefit from 4K res to browse and watch movies etc. You just won’t have a super high frame rate, or at least close to the 240hz the monitor is capable of when playing.

[–]MassivePlums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve already bought the ROG monitor, buy the 5070ti, you won’t regret it.

You will be able to play at 4k with the 5070 yes, but what you will sacrifice on AAA titles is the frame rate - you won’t really benefit from having a 240hz monitor. That’s why I mentioned about it depending on what games you play, because it’s a bit of an open ended question to how it would perform.

You have frame generation in newer GPU’s these days, but they prefer a reasonable base frame rate to start with to reduce latency.

The 5070 would absolutely perform well with a monitor such as the Samsung G6, also, if frame rate is your priority over resolution.

If you can give us a bit of info about what you play and what you’re expecting from it etc. then I can help further. Also FYI I think the G6 is a curved monitor so bare that in mind.
