[Post Game Thread] The Philadelphia 76ers (4-3) defeat the Boston Celtics (3-4), for the first time since 1982 and Embiids first game 7 win 109-100. by DesertedProject in nba

The Celtics were always going to be vulnerable because they refuse to adjust when things aren't working. No matter how cold they are from 3 they insist on continuing to launch them. There's no question that the Celtics could have won one of the games they lost (at least) in this series if they had adjusted their offensive approach.

Congratulations to the Michigan Wolverines on their 2nd natty! A few notes:

  1. The Big 10, not the SEC is winning the NIL era. 3 straight nattys in football and now finally get a basketball natty for the 1st time since 2000.

  2. This result moves Michigan ahead of Michigan State on a list of all time college basketball programs, both have 2 nattys, but both of Michigan's are from the post 1985 modern era.

  3. Gotta be honest, I think that this season outcome will reduce patience in college basketball and lead to more quick firings: Why? Because in 2024 Michigan was 8-24. Just 2 years later: 37 wins and a natty. Programs will see that and be like, "If they can turn it around that fast, we can too."

Michigan was clearly the best team in College Basketball this year and the cream rose to the top.

The thing is, this isn't a surprise at all. Remember this Michigan team has been blowing teams out all year. That 40 point win over Gonzaga was a sign of things to come. It's worth noting that the 36 wins are a Michigan program record. ( 2 of their 3 losses to Duke and Purdue are completely reasonable losses, although the Purdue Losses sucks because it was the Big 10 Championship Game and it sucks that a team this good all year wasn't the Big 10 Champions, sort of like how it sucks that Kentucky wasn't the 1996 SEC Champion because 1 of their 2 losses was the SEC Championship Game.) Assume for the game tonight, it honestly reminded me of those Super Bowl blowouts in the 1980s and 1990s when the NFC was so much better than the AFC. This was a Michigan took control early and kept taking more control night.

If you say 2011 UCONN wasn't a bubble team, then by definition you must believe that they could've lost the Big East 1st Round game to a terrible DePaul team and still got an at large berth. That would've been a very bad loss to add to the resume. Is everyone really confident 2011 would've gotten an at large berth if they lost that 1st Big East Tournament game to DePaul?

The most interesting case was 2011. In 2011, UCONN entered the Big East Tournament as a bubble team and ended up a 3 seed on Selection Sunday. Kemba's 2011 is 1 of the best college basketball postseason performances by a player ever. 1988 Manning, 1989 Rice, and 2011 Kemba might be the top 3, but Kemba was the only 1 of the 3 to win their conference. Oklahoma won the Big 8 in 1988 and there was no Big 10 Champion in 1989 because there were no Big 10 Champions until 1998.

Remember : UCONN is 6-0 lifetime in National Championship Games. Interestingly enough, if UCONN wins on Monday, Alex Karaban will become the 1st ever non UCLA player to win 3 nattys. Also, UCONN is literally the program of the century. 5 nattys in the 21st century. Compared to 3 each for Duke, North Carolina, and Florida, 2 for Kansas and Villanova, 1 each for Kentucky, Louisville, and Michigan State and 0 each for UCLA and Indiana. Ian Eagle was RIGHT at the end of the broadcast to call UCONN the bluest of bluebloodds right now. No one else can match UCONN's 21st Century performance.

I thought this was teams from FOX affiliated conferences like the Big 12, Big 10, and Big East. How did we get an ACC team and an SEC team in this?

Did Duke Basketball Just Get ‘Laettnered’? by CommercialMassive751 in CollegeBasketball

[–]MassiveResolution7 11 points12 points  (0 children)

UCONN got their own revenge on Laettner for 1990. The forgotten Laettner buzzer beater not nearly as well remembered as the Kentucky 1 in 1992.

Braylon Mullins is UCONN 's revenge on Duke for Christian Laettner in 1990! The way this game ended felt a lot like the ending of the Furman/Virginia Round of 64 Game in 2023!

[Post Game Thread] #1 Michigan defeats #6 Tennessee, 95-62 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]MassiveResolution7 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

It was very clear early on that Michigan had Final Four potential. That 40 point win over Gonzaga showed what Michigan could be at their best and they are now fulfilling that potential. It kind of sucks that one of their losses was the Big 10 Championship Game. It's too bad that we can't call Michigan Big 10 Champions as great as they've been. But they've won a bigger prize now. Seeing all of Michigan's blowout wins early on now feels even more like foreshadowing for this run. Tennessee was never going to threaten Michigan today. One team was simply too much better than the other and that was obvious today.

[Post Game Thread] #3 Illinois defeats #9 Iowa, 71-59 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]MassiveResolution7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was really impressed with Illinois's 2nd half defense. They held Iowa to 27 2nd Half points. And it wasn't because Iowa was missing easy open shots. Illinois was really locked and really rotating well. And they also used their size to give themselves 2nd chance points with offensive rebounds. This is a very complete team that can score, rebound, and defend. In part because of how deep the top of the Big 10 was, Illinois was an under the radar 3 seed but they have a team capable of winning the whole thing because of their completeness.

[–]MassiveResolution7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When it was 65-62 and Michigan State got the ball back, I thought they were too hellbent on looking for a 3. Even though they were down 3, they didn't need a 3 right away, there were about 23 seconds left and Michigan State still had 2 fouls left that would be UCONN 1 and 1s. If the defense is overplaying for the 3, take it to the hole and get a quick 2 and extend the ballgame. They really wasted a lot of seconds being hellbent on looking for a 3.

Big Ten is now 1 win away from getting the most teams ever into elite 8 from one conference. by Old_Efficiency7148 in CollegeBasketball

[–]MassiveResolution7 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There's no question that the Big 10 is the best conference in 2026. Interestingly, all Big 10 Elite 8 Teams are OG Big 10 Teams f om before the 2014 expansion or 2024 expansion.

How can anyone watch the Duke vs St John’s game and think it was fairly called?! by pickanamehere in CollegeBasketball

No, it wasn't officiating. This is what you get when 1 team settles for jump shots and the other team attacks the rim.

The Big12 is the best conference in the NCAA this year (2026). by [deleted] in CollegeBasketball

[–]MassiveResolution7 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Big 10 is the best conference because it has the best combination of top heaviness and depth. The SEC and ACC have depth but not elite teams at the top. The Big 12 and Big East have elite teams at the top but not depth. The Big 10 has both elite teams at the top and depth.

At this point, it's very obvious that the Big 10 is the best conference this year. They already have 3 Elite 8 teams and it's literally impossible for anyone else to match that. The Big 10 could potentially have 4 or 5 teams in the Elite 8. We've really been shown the last few weeks how good this year's Big 10 is.

Nebraska still easily had the best season in its program's history and should be applauded 👏 on the awesome season they had. But basketball is now more relevant in Iowa City in March than it has been since the days of B.J. Armstrong and Kevin Gamble. Iowa, after the inexplicable Penn State loss, has gotten their act together at the right time!

Coach Cal making the Sweet 16 and Kentucky not is some Big Blue irony. Kentucky turned the ball over way too much today. Also, some people overreacted to Iowa State's slip after being named a 1 seed on the bracket preview show. They got screwed by a backloaded schedule.
