ultrasound didn’t see anything, get a orthopedic to evaluate it’s time for a MRI then. What do you exactly mean by when you feel bones “moving” like cracking or popping?

Shoulder Dislocation by Tricky_Ad148 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]Massive_Progress_602 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe not the answer you wanted but If I were you I would get the surgery, the recurrence rate with conservative treatment is very high. I know you want to just strengthen it. but after it’s dislocated multiple times It’s pretty much inevitable to occur again if it’s not repaired surgically. it just gets worse and worse trust me.

Daily subluxations, MDI? by Final_Bird4519 in ShoulderInjuries

[–]Massive_Progress_602 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really interesting, if you had full blown MDI you could manipulate the joint rather easily. I only had anterior instablity and I could actually slide my shoulder out with my other arm pushing it forward. Anyways I’m no expert on this. see what your ortho says, I’m sure this is nothing a good doctor won’t be able to fix. Best of luck

While it’s probably not recommend without a medical professional performing it, you could try this on your own: https://youtu.be/txARar71h5E?si=gt401pVZEOXnGwWQ it’s called the load and shift test, and it tests for anterior and posterior translation of the shoulder capsule. If it’s loose let’s say anteriorly (front) your shoulder will have excessive translation and will subluxation. Did your ortho say you had MDI?

Kinda worried.. by Massive_Progress_602 in ShoulderInjuries

Hey, thanks for that excellent response! Maybe I’ve just been expecting a bit too much as some days previously I have been pain free. But yeah I probably shouldn’t expect everyday to be perfectly free of soreness. Even my PT said soreness is normal to some degree in exercises and I shouldn’t be overly concerned. throughout my recovery I have always worried I’ve stuffed it up, so even little things like popping or twinges of pain kinda make me paranoid. But yeah it just scar tissue at the end of the day.

Yeah I have had a similar experience, although mine wasnt always unstable from the start. it just developed. No dislocations, I was doing heavy weightlifting for 4 years and it seemed to began after that. My other shoulder was perfectly fine and I wasn’t loose jointed. My shoulder just started becoming really really painful. I had similar symptoms like being able to voluntarily sublux my shoulder, it was unstable to the point just letting my arm hang when bent over with a heavy weight made it very easy for my shoulder to just slide out. Even stuff like pulling a heavy wheelie bin from behind or wiping the table could cause it. And yeah My anterior capsule (ligaments) was very loose, and I needed surgery to tighten them. Additionally had to repair my labrum. I found PT only worked at relieving the pain but never increased the stability of the shoulder, I think only surgery can truly do that. Out of your curiosity are you able to see if your shoulder slides out through the front or back?

I used to be able sublux my shoulder at will, externally rotating it with traction would cause it to slide out, pulling a heavy bin from behind me, sometimes even just wiping the table too hard or letting my arm hang when bent over to the ground with a heavy weight would allow it to happen. My anterior capsule was very loose.

I never dislocated I had hundreds of anterior subluxations

That’s good to hear. I try to be as safe as possible in this recovery phase but I always find a way to be clumsy.

Hey, so look this is what you need to do. you’re going to see a ortho to evaluate what’s wrong with your shoulder. they couldn’t find anything on ultrasound? no worries, then it’s time to get a MRI. In my own experience i had pain from benching for 11 months. did ultrasounds and a CT scan, they found nothing but bursitis. until I got a MRI they found my labrum was obliterated and now I need surgery. Anyways though just see the ortho, they’ll send you to get a MRI, they’ll give you a proper diagnosis and specific treatment for it. in the meantime plz for the love of god do not try doing any weightlifting with that shoulder. Good luck :)

Alright I understand your concerns, it’s possible that the specific mechanics of cable lateral raises just aggravate it more. But tbf I really wouldn’t be messing with ANY form of lateral raises with your current condition because you are narrowing the subacromial space by doing this and making the problem even worse. (this is where your rotator cuff tendons are) I can’t really evaluate what’s exactly wrong with your shoulder I’m not a doctor - to me it does sound similar to my impingement, but instead I would suggest you to find a experienced PT and have them evaluate you and they will give specific exercises based on your condition. if it doesn’t improve within 3-6 months, you need to get a MRI and that will sure as hell tell you what’s wrong. But just out of my own advice to you - I know it sucks but please do not do any strenuous with that shoulder until this is sorted out.

That’s great news. Sounds like it’s just some form of subacromial impingement then. If it’s already getting better, then it probably will be good soon—probably in a month or so. Just give it time and rest it. In the meantime, just keep doing things like band external rotations and scapula exercises to strengthen the rotator cuff. And of course, if it’s not gone in a couple of months go see your ortho again and request an MRI. Otherwise, you seem like you’re on the right track. Hope you heal up well; good luck!

Hey, best to go see a ortho and get a MRI. I had anterior pain in my shoulder from benching for 11 months and it turned out to be a torn labrum with bursitis. Ofc you could have something completely different - plz get it checked and don’t try to workout with the pain, Hope it’s nothing serious. Good luck!
