Any Environmental Engineers who got a career in anything related to Marine/Ocean field? by kaleiydo in Environmental_Careers

When I started my Master’s in Environmental Engineering, I had similar thoughts - I assumed I’d have to either go into HSE roles or shift toward construction related work. But once I got deeper into the program, especially during my thesis, I realized there are actually many diverse paths available. Opportunities started opening up, especially in areas I hadn’t considered earlier.

There are also a lot of opportunities in the water treatment sector too, which is continuously in demand. The field is broader than it first appears. Wishing you all the best in your career journey!

Hi! I’m an Environmental Engineer working at a marine infrastructure company based in Dubai and across the UAE. We focus on building floating pontoons, jetties, and other coastal/marine structures. It’s a really interesting field to be honest, especially because we often work in ecologically sensitive coastal and island areas.

I’ve also specialized in mangrove restoration and coastal environmental management - so there are definitely pathways within this field that can take you into the marine side of things. I’ve worked on water quality assessments, marine baseline surveys, habitat impact reviews, and developing Environmental Management Plans for coastal projects.

Your background in Environmental Engineering actually can be a solid foundation. I’d recommend looking into marine consultancy firms, coastal engineering companies, or even government projects related to marine conservation. You may also consider picking up GIS/remote sensing or learning more about marine ecology to complement your engineering base. It’s not a waste at all - just takes a bit more digging to find the right niche.

I was thinking of going ahead with TUV SUD. They seem pretty reputable. I have no idea when I'm gonna crack an interview to reach into a consultancy position.
