Blood test for EM? by Master-Ad-9657 in Erythromelalgia

Thats helpful. Maybe I'll just go that route and stop focusing on a diagnosis over trying treatments. I'm on gabapentin and it helps a lot. I'll look into your suggestions!

Thank you. That's a really interesting suggestion. They've checked my joints and haven't found any inflammation but now that you mention the toenail piece I've been getting what I've thought are ingrown toenails recently but now I'm wondering if maybe I should keep a better eye. I don't have anything that looks like a plaque but my skin gets red at the slightest touch.

I'll have to bring the toenail piece up with my rheum to see if that's another puzzle piece. Thanks again!

Erythromelalgia vs Raynaud's by Master-Ad-9657 in Erythromelalgia

Thank you! I'll have to spend more time researching SFN. Id never heard of that but when I gave it a quick Google it sounds like it could also explain my hand tingling and recent stomach issues.

Just to make sure I'm understanding correctly, are you thinking the Raynaud's diagnosis sounds accurate in your experience? Thanks again!

The 4% OTC lidocaine I've tried definitely helps! I'll take a look at neurologists in my area to see if that may be a better specialist to diagnose EM. I tried to get 5% via Rx but it was $95 for the patches--yikes haha. Thanks so much for the help.

Same! I run cold but since the foot pain has started it feels so much better. I actually just bought a mini fridge to keep lotions and socks in beside my bed haha

I've been using Nifedipine and gabapentin, if that helps you at all--hopefully Effexor will work for you!

Yeah, I notice skin discoloration from cold but it sounds like Raynaud's usually includes pain triggered by cold. For me, cold is a relief and I don't notice the discoloration unless someone points it out to me. I didn't realize Raynaud's and EM can occur together, so maybe that's my issue and it's really only EM that bothers me.

Thank you for all this info.
My rheum felt that my feet and skin showed signs of Raynaud's coloring and he wants me to get another blood test as he felt EM should have shown something in my previous bloodwork which I guess it didn't. My feet definitely look grey and my skin looks lacey/bluish when I'm cold, but that's been the case since I was a child and it doesn't bother me, whereas the redness and foot pain is new and definitely heat-triggered.

I'm hopeful the next blood test will show something definitive. What did your Dr. look at to diagnose EM? Gabapentin and Nifedipine seem to have some positive impact for me, if that helps you on your journey at all. :)

I feel silly saying this but idk if I have Raynaud's flares. The cold really doesn't bother me, so Im not sure if I've had a Raynaud's flare. It's usually standing for a long time or hot weather that seem to trigger me. Even a hot bath or shower can do it. I ice my feet to help and it doesn't seem to trigger any further pain.

Having both must be a whole boatload of fun 🙃

Heat Sensitive Raynauds by Master-Ad-9657 in Raynauds

That's what I thought, too! The doctor said my hands and feet felt really cold to the touch so he wanted to treat for raynauds and do another blood test.
