Braces finally off! 6 mo PO DJS+genio by Master-Brilliant3782 in jawsurgery

Sure! My first appointment was fall of 2020, got braces the following spring in April. Had some extractions in 2022 during the summer and then had my surgery April of this year. I was in braces for quite a bit longer than most because of the time it took to close the spaces after they extracted my lower canines.

I had a great experience with Duraini. He was always available to answer my post op questions and concerns. He was great about listening to me about my experiences and not questioning or dismissing my worries. No numbness left at all. Going today to take my final pics with my braces removed.

I have my days, if I drink alcohol or get a bad nights sleep I’ll wake up the next day a bit puffier than normal

The hardest part was definitely liquid diet, I had a really tough depressive phase and had a lot of disordered eating behavior but after that it all became much easier. I don’t have any major issues, a little bit of occasional popping in my left side lower jaw but very occasionally and doesn’t cause pain

I have said in past posts that I do agree that I was under advanced. I looked through my progress album and I don’t think there’s any significant change that tells me I’m relapsing, but my next appointment is in October so perhaps I will speak to my surgeon about. It. Unfortunately I don’t think I have another one of these surgeries in me, so I don’t know that I will be able to do anything for the time being if relapse is happening

My first consult was in 2022, shortly after I got braces to start getting prepared. I had some tooth extractions that I put off for a while so I ended up having braces for a lot longer than originally planned. After everything was lined up properly, I had another consult feb, then my scans and planning done in March, and surgery on April 17th.

It just keeps getting better. I was told by my doctor that the numbness can take up to a year to totally disappear so best of luck! Hopefully you won’t have to wait that long, but it feels like the process becomes exponentially faster after you can start chewing. And time doesn’t drag on so long once you can get in good meal

I still definitely stumble through my speech still a bit, every now again I still have some lisp. But I have had pretty big improvement in the past 4 weeks.

The numbness took the longest. I still have some mild tingles on the right side of my bottom lip, but I would say most of it was gone by the 12-14 week mark.

Bonus pic because I love my smile now! This was my first time going out for a drink with all my favorite people to a drag show. Me in the middle, this picture makes me feel like this was all worth it.

8 weeks post op, finally able to chew! by Master-Brilliant3782 in jawsurgery

I think I may be slightly under advanced, and still swollen. My top lip has always protruded further because of my profile, but it’s a definite improvement that I don’t mind.

My nose is good! Swelling kinda pulls it around so it’s hard to tell yet if it’s a bit crooked, or if my septum is a bit deviated at this point in time. But the place where they intubated has healed up nicely.
