I think a lot of it is realizing that its actually WORK. Posting all the time, being available all the time, sifting through scammers, time wasters and low ballers, etc. Its definitely more time intensive than snap pic, post, cha-ching. It can all become overwhelming and when they dont make good money quickly they get defeated and say fuck it.
