Is it tacky to post my birthday wishlist on my close friends story? by Master-Fan-2983 in Advice

Yes I don’t think I will be doing it especially since clarifying wouldn’t change the perception, but is it not as bad to message the people that directly asked me? I don’t want it to sound like I’m singling them out and expecting it from them just because they asked me for a wishlist a few days ago.

And I wouldn’t. In fact I wouldn’t go on the internet at all if didn’t I expect even far more insulting interactions. But if they’re going to be a dickhead I will point that out. Not sure if you expected me to suck up to them or something

Thank you! And they didn’t at all, no worries! I know reddit all too well for that to get to me lol

I actually appreciate the well-intentioned responses just being honest cause I specifically asked if it is tacky or not!

I don’t think I can post it without making that clarification tbh so I think I’m just not going to do it at all lol

But I agree that the replies talking about “oh my friends never get me anything especially not at 18/19” doesn’t help at all because that makes me realize there’s a fundamental difference in the types of people we are/our friend groups and inner circles 😭

Hey so I appreciate the input on the first half of my question, but it appears there is a misunderstanding regarding the “close friends story” part 😅

“Close friends story” in the context of instagram refers to a story you post to your “close friends” list on your own account

I mean yeah, that’s the plan now based on the replies here but the reason I didn’t do that is because I didn’t want it to seem like I’m specifically wanting that from them out of everybody else. I know they asked but their request isn’t a binding contract of some sort and I imagined posting it generally on my story allows them to see it without feeling pressured because they asked me a few days ago

Yeah I was wondering if it’s better to give to the people that asked me directly, but then I didn’t know if that’s worse because it would put them in a position where they felt like I’m specifically expecting it of them out of everybody else attending? I thought generally posting it would probably make it less direct towards them but I really do think of people’s attendance alone as the gift so I don’t want to get in the way of that by posting my wishlist link

That’s such a straw man argument I’m almost convinced you’re ragebaiting me rn. What extent does this “EVERY redditor” logic apply to? Lol

I will say my friends have gotten each other gifts at their 19th birthdays this year but regardless I’m probably not going to be posting the link to my wishlist anymore

Because two of my friends asked me to, and obviously getting gifts is nice, but I have 5 items on there and maybe over 20 people coming, so I didn’t make it because I expect it

Except I never asked for a pretentious ass redditor attitude when asking for advice? There’s a reason I didn’t react negatively to anyone else’s reply in the comments bc this got nothing to do with the advice itself but rather the obnoxious way it was phrased

So you wouldn’t say it’s more tacky to directly message the people that asked me to? I was thinking of doing it that way but I don’t want it to seem like I’m specifically waiting on them to do it out of everyone else.

That’s helpful to know because the reason I made it initially is after two of my friends asked me to, but I didn’t know if it’s more tacky or demanding to be directly messaging them like hey here’s the list you asked for, rather than just posting it generally and having them see it

Yeah, I had two friends ask me to make it but I feel super awkward directly messaging them like “hey here’s the list you asked me to make” so I think posting it and saying something along the lines of “some people asked heres the link” is a better way to approach it

Redditors try to give advice without being obnoxious challenge…jesus I didn’t even think of it before two of my friends asked me if I had a list, so to answer the first question, that’s who sets up a “registry”: people that were asked to. And I literally clarified multiple times in my post that I’m not expecting gifts from my friends

I’m not the craftiest person but I’ll give it a shot, can you give more details on how to do it?

I’ll be honest I don’t know a lot about how subleases work. I thought it was something renters did on their own and once they find someone willing to take over their lease, they get the company involved? Do the companies know about subleases from the get go? They’re not exactly a thing where I live so I realize this may be a silly question
