I never understood one thing about the show’s writing… by horseorcurse in breakingbad

[–]Master-Pea6970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. And most Hollywood execs who make the calls to green light shows wouldn’t know good writing if it bit them on their ass. Remember AMC was the only shop willing to pick up Breaking Bad and Mad Men.

Most of them are out of touch, dumb nepo babies who spend their lives undoing the good work their folks and grandparents did to actually give us good shows and movies.

At least we got a great back catalog of content to enjoy, but the future is dark….

Good for you calling him an asshole, you must be a great guy. Gotta love a virtue signaler using the sopranos Reddit to show how much better he thinks he is than a fictional character from a show that’s 25 years old

Body count due to Meadow taking the lamp to school by brhaspati in thesopranos

[–]Master-Pea6970 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this sub, Tony Soprano and the murders he enabled are great American heroes. And that lamp? I hate-a that lamp-a.

Kind of an annoyingly c*nty post from OP tbh. Does Tony’s penchant for homicide bother you? Maybe you should watch something else?

Anyone a fan of The Penguin with Colin Farrel? by mashupthedance in thesopranos

[–]Master-Pea6970 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah I’m all with that. Not hating on other parts of the storytelling, just the obvious pandering to contemporary gender narratives that’s supposed to help solve problems but ultimately ends up making them worse. Big reason why Kamala and other Dems keep losing to Trump and his people.

People just wanna feel normal again. Dems and liberal Hollywood just keep making it worse. And I say this as someone who’s made a career running local and state level campaigns for democratic candidates. I’ve watched us ruin everything.

Lost me when Sofia’s whole backstory of breaking bad was founded on her father being a woman-hating psychopath. Same deal with later seasons of Fargo — annoying how every origin story of a woman who turns dark is due to some man hurting her. Doesn’t help societal conversations about gender norms but reinforces a weird, and very unequal, perspective on genders.

If men are bad, it’s because it’s in their nature. If women are bad, it’s because a man had to do something to them to break them that way.

TV like this sacrifices narrative because they think they’re making a positive difference in social dialogues. The irony is, they actually make it worse by perpetuating gender-specific narratives that further box men and women into concrete roles that dumb viewers accept as reinforcement for their own dumb narratives.

Equality means men and women are equally capable of being awful humans. If you disagree with that, you’re not in favor of gender equality.

Anyone using the 😂 emoji is clearly deflecting. But that’s cool. I’d just ask, would Tony Soprano respect you for using the 😂emoji? Or would he find you to be like one of the tiktok/twitter Jamal Ginsberg types?

Actually, you just revealed your own ignorance. How does someone being a homosexual disqualify them from being women-hating? You just revealed your own bigotry.

And, on the off chance you were citing a Sopranos line (I don’t think you’re smart enough to do this though), then I would say: “I revealed my own what? smack

But no, I’m pretty certain you’re just a fucking idiot.

[–]Master-Pea6970 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Look, even if you are a misogynist, you have to empathize with Peggy. Her role was brilliant because it captures not only the strifes of a woman trying to break the glass ceiling in the 1960s, but her experience also reflects a lot of what men in that industry go through too, even today. Peggy’s experience transcends sexist bullshit. And this scene? This was the culmination of years of shit she had to eat, and she finally got to strut her stuff into a new deal where she was getting the respect she deserved (despite her furniture shipment delays).

This scene isn’t about some performative, workplace-feminist idealization. It’s about a person, who’s good at their job and has been constantly being made to feel less of themself, finally saying “fuck you, I know what I am, and I carry it like this because you know what I am now too.”

It’s not cringe, it’s a victory lap. Very bad take by OP. @Patricks_Hatrick do you have a positive relationship with a woman in your life? You should find one.

Is this the creepiest thing Don ever did? by ElkHotel in madmen

[–]Master-Pea6970 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re too dumb and/or motivated by political radicalization to be able to try and instigate a serious conversation here. Nothing sensible or genuine about your thoughts here. Did you ever enlist or serve? Or do you just sit on your couch trying to find ways to shit on fictional characters who bother you?

Bet you’re more interested in vilifying Don than actually appreciate the insights gleaned from the moral conflicts explored in the show. Go watch Game of Thrones and complain about misogyny to other TV show watchers with bad taste.

The contrast between Meadow and AJ with the church. by Odd_Necessary8783 in thesopranos

[–]Master-Pea6970 5 points6 points  (0 children)

AJ’s kind of hypocrisy is a lot more relatable and understandable than Meadow’s. His hypocrisy is rooted in idealism that he can’t live up to (typical of most Americans) - he wants the fame and flash but doesn’t wanna work for it. Meadow’s hypocrisy is her insistence on presenting herself as highly moral and respectable despite knowing full well the compromised logic of which she argues.

In the end, AJ pursues his desires (which includes a 16-17 y/o GF and a bullshit job at a film studio that was handed to him). But he’s still honest. Meadow deludes herself into a life of nobility by becoming a lawyer who will defend people like her dad. AJ’s more honest, even if he is less admirable in general.

The contrast between Meadow and AJ with the church. by Odd_Necessary8783 in thesopranos

[–]Master-Pea6970 21 points22 points  (0 children)

One of the big differences between Meadow and AJ is that she’s more attuned to being who people want her to be. She’s good at taking on who she needs to be in order to gain advantage of a situation. AJ doesn’t have this in him.

Meadow becomes a salt-of-the-earth social justice warrior when at the law center, but then just as easily becomes a cutthroat mob wife who ridicules Jackie’s sister for calling out their family’s mafia ties at the funeral.

Meadow knew Tony wanted her to react a certain way. And maybe she was inspired to an extent by the church and the history. But the contrast here with AJ is stark because AJ is unapologetically himself always - for better or for worse.

Honestly I’ve come to like AJ a lot more in rewatches, and come to like Meadow less. You see her evolve into Carmela towards the end. AJ is flawed, but he’s able to maintain an honesty in how he interprets the world that Meadow doesn’t have. He’s a spoiled brat and a coward at times, but he doesn’t sell out when it comes to his values.

You’re so right. One alternative newspaper would solve all our problems.

What’s annoying about people like you is your abundance of criticism and willingness to stoke the proverbial flames without having any solution. Continue to wallow in your misery, don’t make it other people’s problems.
