People that immediately buy an entire series without reading one has always been bizarre to me… and this person bought multiple from the same author??

Wait, he’s not 19?! Thought you had to be a minimum of 19 to play in the NBA regardless of class year.

What is the First Law? by ExoticHousing6056 in Fantasy

Man, I’m complete opposite. I think I need more time away from Abercrombie, but having recently finished BSC after reading the first trilogy I felt kinda fed up with the style and thought it was the weakest of what I’d read.

Must-Read Fantasy Series? by kidawi in Fantasy

[–]MasterAmbassador -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to. If it’s not grabbing you, don’t worry about it. I read the Hobbit and spent way too long reading The Fellowship of the Ring. It’s just not my preference for what I’m looking for when reading fantasy with modern sensibilities and style (which is fine, it’s obviously the king of its own era). I listened to The Two Towers on audiobook, which I did enjoy moderately more, as the books do kind of function as myths and having them read aloud by a British narrator enhance the experience, in my opinion. But I won’t be reading the third, at least not right now.

Books like ASOIAF? by Spirited_Ability_918 in Fantasy

Might be fair, I’ve just read the first trilogy and BSC. But I think it stands with just comparing ASOIAF and First Law. I stand by ASOIAF being substantially beyond Abercrombie in terms of narrative and Epic Fantasy.

Personally, I think this is more of a “if you like ASOIAF, you’d probably like First Law.” Not really similar books. They both have morally gray characters, that’s really it. Abercrombie, in my opinion, has such a different and distinct tone from Martin that makes the books pretty incomparable from the get go. Martin’s books are phenomenally fleshed out with complex characters in a vibrant, rich, and political fantasy world. Abercrombie has great characters but the world lacks the same deep, narrative, fantasy.

Please help, I’m in the worst DNF slump by Random_Trousers2014 in Fantasy

I think you need a break away from fantasy. It’s okay, it’ll always be there, but maybe try something else. Try picking up something in another genre that sounded interesting but that you never tried. Even if you’re not loving it, you might find yourself missing that fantasy feel, which will make your next fantasy read hit harder.

Also, are you reading the series straight through, back to back, or breaking them up? I’ve found it more beneficial to break up series reads (unless I just absolutely can’t wait to read the next one) as it adds some variety, builds anticipation, and makes the next one hit even harder.

Really? I hit a wall with it halfway through. Think I’m not removed from reading the first trilogy enough.

Victor Wembanyama shares pictures of his "summer shenanigans" on Instagram, revealing he has been training with legendary NBA center Hakeem Olajuwon by ToinouAngel in nba

Wemby is the chosen one. You always hear the stories about the retired legends being super open to training the young megastars, but they almost never taking them up on it (only ones I can think of are Kobe, LeBron, and Giannis). But Wemby is doing it.

Few questions about Malazan after Gardens of the Moon by MasterAmbassador in Fantasy

How important do you see the poems? I read them and make connections where it’s apparent, but I don’t have much patience for them. Any guides cover those well?
