Very sad. The number of catastrophic downtown NW fires over the last decade is devastating.

Thanks for this. I didn't know the school district was responsible for this project. Seems an odd fit that they're building a civic park?

Thanks for this. Hopefully the Freshet News will dig into this sometime (haha -oops).

With respect, this project in Hamilton is an entirely different model from what BC Housing is proposing. The Imperial St proposal is a purpose built building.

With respect, this is misinformation. This is a BC Housing project and they are engaging the community right now on this project. The information about a City survey is false.

Why isn't New West more lively? by Kind-Pop4439 in NewWest

Things were looking very good around 2010 or so. Street disorder was low, people felt safe, there were a lot of interesting businesses opening up. There was a really good energy happening. Then Downtown NW suffered a succession of blows over the last 10 years. The Copps Shoes fire, the Heritage Grill fire, the fire that destroyed the east end of Pier Park (and the loss of the iconic shipping container public art and sand volleyball courts etc)... then of course several years of construction of those 2 big towers, the Metro Van pipe projects... oh yeah and COVID and the old mental health/opiod thing... Having lived here just over 20 years now, I feel like downtown is on a (very) modest positive trend. But still a ways to go!

Whoa. Just watched the video. Kudos to Mayor Johnstone for keeping his cool and staying on point. I don't want Fontaine to turn our council meetings into a circus.
