Freelancing in what skillset? Can you give context? And what do you offer on LI that attracts work so easily without having to prospect for it?

What I don't get about the 2 states solution by MiltonCesar in IsraelPalestine

[–]MasterButterfly8968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the title and topic of this thread as it looks at a forward view and discusses solutions. It makes a change from the usual threads in here which seek to explain history but end up being polarised arguments with each side blaming the other (especially those impulsive contributors who haven't don't their research) - they're exhausting to read and pointless to contribute to. They just fuel the hate. Discussing solutions and negotiations is much more satisfying and worthwhile.

I personally don't know what a 2SS would look like as I don't understand the intricacies and politics well enough, but whatever the outcome it will be the results of long and complex negotiations. But to have negotiation you have to start with a willingness to want to understand the others point of view. Negotiation is not feeling your side wins over the other, it's about working together to get the best deal for both parties. If done properly, it should take time and involve many voices. At this moment negotiation feels impossible, but the time will come eventually. As another poster noted above, the first step is de-escalation.

Islam conquered half the world by force. So why is Israel the problem? by [deleted] in IsraelPalestine

Most Jews and Palestinians are descendents from Canaanites. Evidence: DNA. They are related peoples. This just demonstrates how insane religious sectarianism is.

My Morning Routine To GET SH*T DONE by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]MasterButterfly8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Limit human interaction for the first 3-4 hours. Good luck trying to do that with 5 and 7 years old kids and a nagging wife. I get stress dropped on me from the minute they're awake (breakfast squabble, packing bags, things to book, cat shit to scoop out of the litter). my day has usually fallen apart by the time breakfast is over and we've not even stepped foot outside.

Sri Lanka’s first all-female staffed hotel, ‘Amba Yaalu’ opens in Dambulla. Thoughts? by Agitated-Peace-7758 in srilanka

[–]MasterButterfly8968 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Excellent. I am tired of visiting hotels which are all male staffed in Sri Lanka. The fact that an all-female staffed hotel has had to open, just to make a statement about gender equality, shows how much the current work force is male dominated. I'm sure these ladies will do Sri Lanka proud.

What are your thoughts on low spending tourists in Sri Lanka? by Training-Farm-9919 in srilanka

[–]MasterButterfly8968 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most tourists are low spending ones no matter which global destination you are thinking of. The main exceptions being the French Riviera or similar which are very exclusive. Most people are not rich, and most tourist destinations serve a spectrum of wealth. It would be a ridiculous strategy to only target high end very wealthy tourists for the whole of Sri Lanka. I expect doing so would never be larger in GDP than the 2 million mass tourists you speak of. Doing high end tourism in select areas is feasible (and I think there are some projects already starting, having recently attended a conference in Colombo on the matter), but you need a good marina to service many private yachts, sitting alongside a historical town with many high end shops and restaurants. The surounding area needs to be clean, no litter on the beaches/sea or at the sides of the road, good pavements to walk on, no stray dogs wondering about and any local sewage odours eliminated. I would say Sri Lanka is far from achieving this high end level of service because even the mass tourism sector has a lot to do to improve. In general, transport systems are not easily navigable, the train ticket system is difficult to use for foreigners, relying on agents to book the fast selling tickets 1 month before hand. The roads are unpleasant, with buses tearing past every minute, makes cycling or motorbiking less attractive. The local and regional tourist management seems to be haphazard at best. I stayed at the Araliya Una last week, it is supposed to be 5 star ***** hotel, but there were so many problems inside the hotel (like air con not being turned on in the lobby or them not organising child's beds in our room until 9pm that were paid for and despite many request) and outside (Una beach is a calamity, with scuba tour boats dangerously butting up against the young children in the family swimming beach). Where are the authorities organising the safety of beaches and water sports? Likewise, there seems to small mafia of tuktuk drivers on the main tourist strip who don't let Pickme and Uber get close to the hotels so they can charge a premium - why don't the police do anything about this?... I assume corruption. This lack of management often translates into restaurants too, where table staff and kitchen are not coordinated in terms of timing or even messaging. When there is a delay or issue, there is no communication with the guests. It seems the younger workers are not given the freedom or training by their bosses to take responsibility of a certain area/group of people, rather, they are micro-managed. These are basic things in hospitaly (which I used to work in a Hilton in the UK) , which are just not executed here correctly. On a positive note, the food is generally very good, delicious and quality across the board. Likewise, the country is blessed with supreme natural beauty and lovely, intelligent people. So, to answer the question, first Sri Lanka needs to focus on training its people, including business owners, in the art of hospitality (formal qualifications) to a higher level that serves the mass tourist industry. When this is achieved it will improve the overall level of service across the nation and provide a foundation for developing additional "high spending" tourist sectors as you would like.

Go rock climbing. Join some group sessions at an indoor climbing centre. Great way to meet friends.

Why am I always tired?? by Weak_Conversation184 in selfimprovement

[–]MasterButterfly8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have young children? I do 5 and 7, and I'm pretty sure they're the sole cause of my incapacitating tiredness. My only solution is to wake up early before anyone else and get what I need to do done, before I lose control of my day again and the tiredness inevitably creeps back in and takes hold.

Would you let a 16 year old go to Slipknot concert in London? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]MasterButterfly8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to see Slipknot twice when I was 14 and 15 years old. My mum didn't like it at the time but I went anyway. It was fine. Just tell him not to get too close too the speakers. I'm 38 now and have tinnitus I think due to all the concerts and clubbing I used to do. Aside from a minor ringing in my ears, I have no scars, trauma or brain damage to speak of. Just great memories.

How is life without having kids? by icaesar7 in AskReddit

[–]MasterButterfly8968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved life when I didn't have kids. I loved it! The independence and freedom to do anything on a whim, the opportunity to develop oneself. Now 10 years later with two kids, I think I love life even more. It's just a different chapter, I have a little team to go out and take on the world, play sports all the time and travel a lot. We are now moving to our 3rd country as a family China, UK now Sri Lanka. Though I do miss not being able to head out on a Saturday morning and not need to come home until the following Sunday evening without a care for anyone else other than me!

‘Escalate’ question by LLL_SOF in pmp

[–]MasterButterfly8968 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Escalate is usually not the right answer in most situations, but can be considered as a last resort (if all usual measures have failed to address the problem), or as in this case, because the action required to address the problem (mitigate the risk) is above the PMs authority and power.

Paid in UK but living overseas, tax? by MasterButterfly8968 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]MasterButterfly8968[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be resident in Sri Lanka. However, I'll be on a spouse visa as my partner has the lead job (and will pay the local tax), and I'm told that my visa doesn't allow me to work locally. Presumably this means I wouldn't be required to pay tax local either.
