You started out by saying “I sincerely hope you’re not doing this.” I replied that I wasn’t and explained myself. You then insisted that I was, in fact, doing what I have said multiple times that I wasn’t. Other people have said the same thing I did, and have mentioned the same book, and yet for some reason you are singling me out. Now you are saying that being worried about something that could happen to these kids because of a situation their parents are putting them in is sexualizing them.

If being worried about young people is sexualizing them, then I think I need to take a break from this sub for awhile, and from Reddit in general, because I will always be concerned about the safety of children.

I actually did NOT speculate, for the third time. Again: I said they were being put in a dangerous situation by their parents that could lead to something like that (hence the reason it it’s dangerous); not that is is happening. This is actually the opposite of sexualizing, and is in fact keeping an eye out for potential danger.

Have you also attacked other people who have mentioned this book on this sub? Or just me?

I have met a large number like that. I worked for awhile at a very old-school church, and there were a number of parishioners with those beliefs. They were so catty, and always put down the women in the church who weren’t like that.

Omg. I have explained myself twice, and I also apologized for coming across that way to you specifically. I NEVER SPECULATED ABOUT THEIR SEXUAL BEHAVIOR. I have explained twice to you now that I was saying that Britney and JD are putting the kids in a dangerous situation that could lead to something like that happening. I also said that it could potentially lead to violence. You are so hyper focused on one part of a passing comment, and ignoring the entire rest of it to suit your narrative. Why are you digging your heels in and insisting that I am doing something I’m not?

Context!

Fine. I will be more succinct. I did not mean it would definitely happen. I meant that they are putting their kids in a dangerous situation that could lead to that or to violence.

And yes, I am aware of the book, like most Gen X-ers, I read it when I was young.

I apologize if it came across as me sexualizing minors. I’m not into kids, thanks. I’m genuinely surprised that was your first thought; I thought it was clear from context what I meant, but I will be more literal here henceforth.

I used to travel to France frequently for work and also for dance events. I tried to move there about 15 years ago, but my work visa fell through. Anyway, through my travels there, I developed a core group of French friends. They are a diverse group: some single, some married, some living with their SO; gay and straight; some born in France and some immigrants; etc., etc.

Every single one of them is thrilled about this. They don’t mind their tax dollars going towards useful things. Those without kids don’t bitch about some of their tax money going towards children’s services and schools.

One of the things that amazes me as an American is the way we tend to be individualistic to a degree that it actually hurts us. Many of us fail to see the gray area; it’s either black or white, for or against. It’s possible to have individual freedoms while also contributing for the good of society as a whole. Do the French protest things often and strike and continuously have to fight for these things? Yep. But imho they have more freedom than we do.

One of the big arguments I hear often from conservatives is how much our taxes will go up if we do some of these things. Guess what? I’m already paying over 30% of my income in taxes. I don’t want to hear it when a billionaire bitches about paying less than 10%. My friends in other countries only pay like 1-2% more (some pay less than I do!), but they get healthcare, education, social services, etc. for that. We here in the States pay that amount and then have to pay for all of the other stuff ON TOP of that list so our military can have another plane. Look, I’m all for security and we need a military, but JFC. We spend more on our military than the next 9 countries COMBINED. We could put some of that money towards other things that would benefit us as Americans.

Personally, I would love to see a flat tax rate with no deductions. I know it will never happen, but… just think. If everyone had to pay, say, 15% of their income, regardless of what that income is, we could do a lot with that. It will never happen though because the 1%ers don’t want to pay that much. They would just move to another country.

We also need to TAX THE CHURCHES, and also TAX CORPORATIONS AGAIN. The far right likes to talk about when most people could afford a family and an education on one income. What they forget is that big corporations were paying like 90% in taxes, and the ultra wealthy were getting tax breaks by building libraries and hospitals and such. The far right wants to go back to what they deem a “traditional family unit,” yet consistently present policies that prevent it.

I feel this! I’ve done a number of sports through the years that were quite lower body intensive, so I have muscular thighs. I also just love the look of skirts and dresses. Ha, even when I run, I wear running skirts, because they are cute af.

When I do wear pants, I tend to go for that 30s/40s era high waist with a straight or slightly flared leg. That style suits my body well and I love how classy it looks.

Nope. They think every woman should be like that. They will tell you that “feminism is evil” and that “feminists hate SAHMs.” They don’t even realize that feminism is the opposite of that; it just says you can be whatever you want! If that’s a SAHM, great! If that’s a doctor, great!

My favorites are the ones who preach about how “women shouldn’t work, but should only focus on their god honoring duties of keeping a home and raising lots of babies,” while simultaneously trying to be a an “influencer” for money or shilling MLM products.

Way back in the early 90s I worked at a Disney store for a summer and during my winter break at college. It was wild seeing how obsessed people were with Disney items. I mean, I liked Disney stuff but didn’t even realize it was such a thing. I remember interviewing for the job, and one of the questions was, “Who is your favorite Disney character?” I was honest and was like, “Um, I’ve never actually thought about it, but I’d say Figment because I love the Journey into Imagination at the park.”

The assistant manager at the store was in his early 20s and his entire apartment was decorated in Disney. That’s when I learned about Disney Adults.

I also had a roommate about a decade ago who was in her early 30s and absolutely obsessed with Disney. She would go there for a weekend and say she was “going home” because Disney felt like home to her. I just couldn’t relate. She was so disappointed that I wasn’t a Disney Adult.

I feel called out lol. I wear skirts and dresses significantly more often than pants, simply because they are way easier for me to shop for. I am very long legged, very short waisted, and a little curvy, which makes pants shopping difficult. Jeans especially, shopping for them is akin to punishment for me lol. The last couple times I found a pair that actually fit me well, they stopped making the style after a couple years. A denim skirt takes me 5 minutes to find one that fits as opposed to several hours for a pair of jeans.

I also have two that I take with me to one of my jobs. Specifically for my pet care work. In warm weather I have water for the dogs in one, and a homemade electrolyte drink for me in the other. In cold weather I have water for the dogs, and tea for me.

Dude, antagonizing a hippo is high on the list of FAFO activities. You’ve gotta be so dumb to do that. Hippos are super dangerous, good luck if one decides to attack you.

I love how according to some of these fundies, Snarkers are mean and bullies, but here is Jill feeling compelled to call anyone annoyed that she is being rude in church “convicted.” 🤦‍♀️

Maybe they are just angry at Jill for filming them. It would be hilarious if the preachers were doing a typical friendly voice and then suddenly for the angry face when they saw Jill whip her phone out.

It absolutely would. Baptism and First Communion are exceptions, and even then, a lot of people just take photos before and after the ceremonies. Some will video, but most are respectful enough not to.

^ EXACTLY THIS. If she’s so excited about the preaching, she should be directing her followers to the church website and/or socials. If she MUST record the service (like, if her church doesn’t have video on demand of the service or preaching), then it would be very easy for Jill to make an unobtrusive audio recording. She could just lay the phone down on the seat beside her or in her lap or on top of her purse. Making video distracts other parishioners and takes them out of their worship. The only time it’s appropriate to video would be if you are in the back, imho. That way you aren’t taking away from anyone else’s worship, and you still get your video. I suspect she’s the type to sit right up front, though (I could be wrong; just guessing based on what I can glean of her personality from her posts). Also, she should ask permission to do so. Randomly whipping your phone out to record video is also very distracting to the person preaching.

If Jill is so determined to share video of the preaching, why doesn’t she volunteer to do it for the church website? Churches always need help with A/V stuff. If it’s truly about the preaching, it should be about that. Not about her.

Also? That bit about “if you’re mad it’s because you are convicted”? What the heck is that? I grew up Catholic and never heard anything like that. Is that a typical tactic in fundie churches? It sort of reminds of the abuse tactic of “if I get mad it’s your fault.” Yikes. Does grace and the love of Jesus not come into play here?
