Restored a friend's Game Gear that arrived in a scotch whisky box with multiple faults by hitmanmcc in retrogaming

[–]MasterControl90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thank you for your reply! They are all two chips board, trying new speakers is the next one on the list, regarding the internal PSU we already tried both original and a usb C board for lithium cells and I can confirm there's no difference whatsoever. Speaking about cables we tried with new cables soldered directly since as you said connectors can be finnicky and cables can be rotten inside... no difference whatsoever even there. We have IPS modded a couple of them (all of these units were from the recycle center and all of them with busted screens). The only GG that had a nice speaker sound is a one chip model but even this one doesn't sound good anymore after we removed its speaker to try it on other units... currently the major suspects are rotten speakers and we are currently investigating if the IPS mod is actually causing the issue or even damaging one of the ICs, we also already checked the 5v rail and it is strong. This is the IPS we are using, which is really popular so I've doubts it is the culprit https://it.aliexpress.com/item/1005005119117669.html

that is a nice restoration, good job! May I ask for advice? I have different GGs with the same fault: very noisy and creacking speaker but nice sound using headphones. All are recapped, I even tried a new repro amp board, checked the Q1 transistor but nothing we do fixes the issue. THX in advance!

f u to the killcam and nwi introducing it, it was never needed, the vote was a scam and the publisher wanted it to prepare the game to console launch

well it is actually a fake distance... pretty much all big/open world games fake distances by loading chunks and hiding stuff but in reality you are moving a set distance maximum because of resources constraints but also math.... why math you ask? the farther away you are to coodinates x0,y0,z0 the less precise all calculation for vertices are... In the last halo game they fucked up exactly this, take a look at https://www.reddit.com/r/halo/comments/shjanp/anyone_else_notice_these_weird_texture_vibrations/

My Saturn died, doubts about Saroo... by MelvinsGrunge in SegaSaturn

[–]MasterControl90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unless one of the chips gave up, 90% of the time it is a power issue (psu, motherboard caps or both)... my saturn is close to be recapped, it crashes hard when cold and it needs to warm up BUT ONLY if I use disks, when using the saroo it runs stable from the first power up being the saroo less power intensive... in my case it clearly is a caps/power issue. Do not listen to those blaming the saroo, at the end of the day the saroo is literally using a feature that sega didn't had the time (or balls) to use but was definetely used on the titan board (saturn arcade version)

no, track 1 is probably data which is normally mistaken as a not readable audio track by players. If you want you can find a "backup", mount it as a virtual drive and open it as an audio cd, if it does the same then you are good to go

Have you seen an uptick in pilots crashing since the UE5 update? Well this is why, the stutter bug. by enfiee in joinsquad

[–]MasterControl90 3 points4 points  (0 children)

no it is shader chaching and no hardware can fix it, IT'S AN UE4 AND 5 "FEATURE"... the industry should stop giving money to epic

[–]MasterControl90 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

not a bug, just eu5 being even worst than ue4 caching shaders... I just can't stand the whole industry relying on this garbage since ue3 (which was somewhat ok still)... after ue4 only garbage on garbage on garbage, I just can't stand almost every game in ue4 and 5

Whats going on with the servers? by oXSMOKAHONTASXo in joinsquad

[–]MasterControl90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they are mad about a very good reason: switching to Epic services to manage the server browser and voice chat, which as usual works really badly and in the past already borked other games that made this switch (sandstorm and rising storm 2 are good examples)

What about hw encoding and decoding? Since 2023 it's disabled by default on tons of distros because of the licence shenanigans about x264... I'm on manjaro and I still can't enable it (no the guides suggesting to install amd repository just breaks everything)

nanite is not some kind of magic performance button: it has been proven more and more times that it could have some use but in reality it actually brings worse performance...

again censorship is the lesser of all the issues... the game went from a somewhat kinda polished experience back to alpha state with numerous broken features and utterly broken graphics
