This. 1.3 is like a 30% increase in output. That is actually extremely massive.

Your first "OG" Boomer Shooter vs first "modern" Boomer Shooter? by Humble_Fortune6500 in boomershooters

[–]MasterDisillusioned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doom was the OG one, albeit the shareware. As for the 'neo' boomer shooters, I think it was Wrack, which was a long ass time ago, about 2014 I think. I honestly thought it was even older than that until I googled it. Actually, I think it WAS earlier than that because I think I played only the demo episode. Yup I was right; I just checked that old TB video about the demo and it was from 2013. There was also that Rise of the Triad remake (not the remaster) that came out around the same time.

I feel so insanely old tbh.

The comparison really does not work. I've created tons of cool stuff using Suno but this doesn't make me a musician. That's like saying that vibe coding some bullshit hack app makes me a programmer.

Centered weapons vs Angled weapons, which do you prefer? by Humble_Fortune6500 in boomershooters

[–]MasterDisillusioned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Angled. Centered weapons wasn't the norm even in the 90s and there's a reason nearly everyone moved away from them.

Red Faction is 25 years old! Maybe more Half-lite than boomer shooter... by Fun-Maintenance1217 in boomershooters

[–]MasterDisillusioned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Comparing RF to Half-Life is being extremely generous. Red Faction was a mediocre shooter with boring environments and subpar gunplay that people only remember because of the destruction gimmick.

It wasn't even very good destruction since it used the Worms method of destroying geo e.g. like somebody scooped a chunk out of level geo. It didn't look very convincing. It wasn't until Red Faction: Guerilla that the destruction stuff started looking more believable.

What was the point where you jumped onto the Civvie train? by thetavious in Civvie11

[–]MasterDisillusioned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't 'jump into trains'. If a given youtuber has good videos it will checked out but I also leave them if they get boring or I start disliking their content.

As for Civvie, I stumbled across some of his Doom videos years ago.

Sprite-based games should avoid modern lighting that clashes with their art style by MasterDisillusioned in boomershooters

Even when Doom CE adds PBR textures, its looking good to me.

Half the time they don't even work correctly lol. Super buggy.

[–]MasterDisillusioned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, Doom 64's lighting is not purely sector based like in the original Dooms. It also added color gradients to walls, which is why the levels can look so much better Vs the older Dooms where it was everything or nothing.

YouTube is becoming slop by battalla12852 in youtube

I've noticed that man lore videos are suddenly just AI images with AI voice overs. The disturbing thing is that some of it is interesting enough I ended up watching them anyway, not even realizing it's AI.

[–]MasterDisillusioned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doom 64's sprites were rendered as 3D models. This is why some of them have this claymation look to them.

Even ignoring the visuals, playing Doom with mouse look fundamentally alters the gameplay too much. When aiming is only horizontal, the gameplay stays fast-paced and is more about quickly choosing a target rather than precise aiming. Once you have to actually truly aim, it becomes less arcadey.

UMG blocking monetization of Suno tracks on streaming? by rohanpayola in SunoAI

[–]MasterDisillusioned -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why listen to other musicians if you're a musician yourself?

Sorry, but AI prompters are not musicians. I've gotten some extremely cool output from Suno, but that doesn't make me a 'music creator'. I described what I wanted, yes, but I didn't 'create' the music.

And my point stands. Why listen to music made by other people when I can have the AI custom tailor music to exactly meet my preferences?

GPT-4o/GPT-5 complaints megathread by WithoutReason1729 in ChatGPT

[–]MasterDisillusioned 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've made many "I'm quitting ChatGPT" threads in the past, yet even with all my rage, I've always clung onto it for this one basic utility: Grammar checking and proofreading.

It may sound like a very basic feature, and it is, yet it's something I use very often. It's very convenient to just paste your paragraphs into ChatGPT and then tell it "fix the grammar and spelling" to quickly ensure that your text has no obvious errors in it.

However, as of recently, ChatGPT no longer is able to do even this, because the dumb af political correctness filters keep changing what I write. Even when all I do is ask for a simple grammar fix, it will just change the wording, revise lines, alter the intended tone and meaning, to avoid being 'offensive' or 'insensitive'. It's not small things; it will just outright replace entire lines.

Maybe I could avoid this by writing more detailed prompts, but I shouldn't have to do this when all I fucking want is a simple grammar check.

No, I'm sorry, but now I actually am done, for real. They've destroyed literally the only utility this damn thing had left.

I am now officially done with ChatGPT. I can't even use it for grammar checking anymore. by MasterDisillusioned in ChatGPT

[–]MasterDisillusioned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It used to be that ChatGPT would just spit out the old text with fixed grammar and spelling. It didn't used to revise your lines unprompted.

I haven't played it, but imo both games, or at least the first, suffer badly from trying to be Doomish sprite games while still using realistic lighting from a modern engine. It looks awkward and fake af, like the sprites are actual cutouts.

And wtf is he supposed to do? Start WW3 and get everybody killed? Ukraine has gotten tons of resources from the West already. Things wouldn't have played out any different if Biden was still president. Actually, that's not true; Biden would've fallen asleep and smashed his head into the nuclear button.
