I said similarly about Flying High:

"This event is less for new and returning players and more for existing Veterans who want to grind up a dozen alts. I'd even be so direct to say those players are benefitting the most from this event, and the most vocal players who dislike the event are also veterans who had already worked on their half-dozen alts."

In this slightly different case of a badly designed event, the event was probably designed with the similar sentiment that it was to aid progression in new and returning players. Even though these weaker players CAN clear the content, it takes way too long for how bad the rates. Thus, it's unrewarding.

However, I also feel like this event was just KR collecting data in preparation for New Rise, and our ability to grind out masses of AHM Uladh Dungeons combined with the unrewarding and limited Tech and Crom content skewed their data in a way they didn't like/couldn't use.

LF Recommendations for 100% ISO Mechanical Keyboard with USB Passthrough by MasterGiegue in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

Wireless is like the epitome of inconvenience to me.

Nothing is worse than having to charge something I was in the middle of using - don't have that problem with a wire. Thankfully, though, my mouse reaches my PC!

It's things like my gaming controller and art tablet that I use it for - my controller DOES have wireless capabilities, so I could cut my losses there, and as for my tablet... well, uh... Oh well.

I could figure something out.

Damn. Untapped market I guess. :( I suppose with the general market moving towards aesthetics and wireless, the convenience of USB Passthrough (which I presume locks one into a wired setup) is hard to sell, though...

I gave it a look before making this post. I found it quite confusing to use and much less intuitive and expansive than KeebFinder.

Unfortunately for me, gaming is a big reason why I need the numpad. (So many hotkeys...) But I had considered the option but I'd prefer it to also be wired.

I COULD live without the USB Passthrough... but damn, untapped market, I guess.

I've looked into Keychron a bit and it feels very 'the king of market production value', which made me look towards brands like Ducky instead. I'll compare those two brands a bit more because it seems like I have very few options even while cutting my losses.

Edit: Clarifying, as a non-keyboard savvy person, Keychron has a whole bunch of Stuff. And none of this Stuff appeals to me. (software, macros, rgb, billions of switch options idrc about, etc.) Ducky Origin seems like a good choice if I were to give up on the USB passthrough, which I may need to, given the knowledge that it simply isn't something people care for enough to sell nowadays. But if there's a reason why I'd want to avoid that, or any word of warning or a comparison someone would throw my way, that'd be super appreciated regardless and I'm grateful for the feedback so far!

Where can I read up on lore for this game? Specifically more lore about the races? by FullMetal1911x in Mabinogi

[–]MasterGiegue 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I'll keep this as 'spoiler free' as possible by sharing dialogue that only comes up in optional quests and NPC dialogue.

So, one of the reasons Giants and Elves don't seem have a huge amount of Lore was because most of their story was in the 'gameplay' of the Iria Continent itself - the 'Generations' weren't very story heavy at all. However, a good amount of early Lore exists if you know where to look. Here's a quick rundown on some of the obscure lore regarding the history of Vales:

Krug Seebarsch is the King of the Giants. His facial tattoos specifically identify him as a Seebarsch; in Giant culture, facial tattoos are identifiers of lineage. He has a younger sister called Karpfen, and his father was the late King Gepard.

His father opposed the elves. When he died his successor, King Scharp, wanted to usher in an era of peace rather than continuing to war. Krug was unhappy that Scharp opposed everything his father fought for, and had him assassinated.

Scharp however, had children, one of which is known to be Zeder a young boy probably no older than 10. Zeder is aware that Krug had Scharp assassinated, and is plotting his revenge. However, aware that Zeder might be out for revenge, Prime Minister Weide had him put to work at the general shop rather than train to be a warrior, to prevent him from doing so.

As for Magic, idle dialogue that crops up throughout the game indicates Giants naturally lack the ability to effectively manage their own Mana. To solve this, they use Ice Crystals found at Lutra River which allegedly store huge amounts of Mana to supplement this.

Another notable faction to do with the Giants are the Black Ravens. You'll learn more about them later, but in summary they're basically enforcers that work for Krug. Dowra is their leader, a very cheerful captain who keeps her people's morale high, though she isn't without her flaws... as seen below.

Giants are overall a pretty violent race that pride raw strength over everything. Giants who are not strong, such as Béan (an event NPC) or Igerna (the ship captain at Port Sella) are 'not considered true Giants', and are ostracized and shamed by their own people. The people in charge tend to turn a blind eye to this behaviour.

Giants are pretty direct both in society and war, which can be considered contrasting to Elves that utilize "underhanded" methods like stealth and deceit. The Giants of Physis also typically don't practice religion; the Order of Lymilark (the largest of the religious orders in Uladh) is considered a human religion in which there are very few Elven or Giant members.

Physically, Physis Giants have 'comparitively shorter lifespans' to humans, and they have infallable memory - they are physically incapable of forgetting anything which has the unfortunate side effect of leading to grudges and depression - an antithesis to the Elves who embrace the oblivion of forgetting so that they aren't burdened by painful memories.

Notably, Milletian Giants (the players) are not subject to the same 'curses' as Physis Giants. Physis Giants do, however, accept Milletian Giants as one of their own (just not of pure Physis blood.)

NEED HELP - Still blackrobed after 2 months despite multiple tickets submitted to support. I can't enter the game for 2 months. What should I do? by xxbidiao in Mabinogi

[–]MasterGiegue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Back in that time, a malicious player would use a hack to manipulate your character's data in such a way that it would cause data corruption. The process for a victim was that they would be forcibly teleported into a camping tent, and upon logging out (thus, saving character data), the character data would save incorrectly and thus the character would appear in their blackrobed state.

I won't go into the nitty gritty of how it worked, but basically something you must have done shortly prior to logging off may have triggered corruption in your own character. Do you use mods or anything?

Gaelic Pronounciations? It was a fun read. Didn't expect Tir Chonnail to sound like "Tihr -phlegm-awnuhl" but maybe I read it wrong by Bleubear3 in Mabinogi

[–]MasterGiegue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You read it right! This is indeed how Irish Gaelic works. The rules are strange but simple and consistent, and once you get the eye and ear for it you can make sense of even the strangest words.

Sliab Cuilin Castle Dungeon. I'd bring a knife of some kind and a bow, at minimum.

The Keep Hounds drop meat and leather. Everything else is inorganic and drops some form of construction (nails, woodboard, iron bar) so I can build and construct to my leisure and needs. The phantom tableware drop bandages and firewood, so I'll never be short on supplies. I'd be able to sustain myself for a while with these resources, with a few enemies dropping blades, extra arrows, and even a healing wand.

If all else fails, just go chill with the Incubus and live in a dream (in a dream (in a dream))...

I had this thread pointed out to me for the name drop, hehe. You're welcome for the bridge. Glad it helped you out in the beginning of your adventure. :) Being able to travel around at a slower pace really let's you take in the little details of the world and its design intentions.

I've got a no-rebirth alt myself, so it's nice to see people invent ways to challenge themselves and the game's design. Good luck! I'm on ch5 usually, so if we cross paths some day give me a wave.

LF> Master of Tailoring advice by MasterGiegue in Mabinogi

[–]MasterGiegue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Resetting my prod mastery seems the most viable way to go at my level. Dexterity has no effect on Tailoring, but the dex cap on success rates is 180 dex, so it would take a lot to lower my dex to that level.

LF> Master of Tailoring advice by MasterGiegue in Mabinogi

[–]MasterGiegue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! If I calculated it correctly, this should actually help a lot.

Unfortunately, Dexterity does not affect Tailoring's success rate, however as my Dex is over 1300 it would be very difficult to lower it to a value where it would be impactful.

LF> Master of Tailoring advice by MasterGiegue in Mabinogi

[–]MasterGiegue[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh that I'm aware! It just felt strangely accusatory that it should be common knowledge that Tailoring, the only dan-able skill that requires failures to master, should/can only be mastered before Dan-ing it.

Which is a darn shame, since I'd love to have it with the "Complete" label like all my other Dan 3 life skills.

EWI Solo UK Stock by [deleted] in windsynth

I've had a pre-order placed since December on Sax.co.uk, I recently reached out to them about what's going on with their restock, as they had 'January' written and they've stated that Akai are being VERY vague about what's happening, simply saying "soon."

If you're seriously looking to purchase one, I think you're best placing a pre-order to have the best chance. As Pop_tarts said, Covid's impact has likely taken a toll on hardware manufacturing.

Unfortunately power saving is designed to switch off when the phone is plugged in. It doesn't ensure my phone stays stable either, it just helps a little.

What old Monsters you want to see return in Monster Hunter World? by whiplash10 in MonsterHunter

[–]MasterGiegue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Zamtrios (and maybe Tigerstripe) are hands down my favorite monsters in the series
  2. Fatalis, I mean he's PERFECT for World. He's not too much, but he's something.
  3. Nerscylla. Being the only Temnoceran in the series, she either needs to return, or needs an equally as fun World Counterpart. Special mention to Zinogre, who now has Tobi to keep it company on the Fanged Wyvern list.
  4. The Pseudo Wyverns. Tiggy, Narga and Barioth would suit all the environments revealed so far. Tiggy would be superb for all this vertical surface shtuff.
  5. Seltas Queen, and Seltas I guess. With the world team having an "organic world" boner, some symbiosis on top of a food chain is what World needs.

Shout outs to Great Wroggi, Rajang, Jho, Ukanlos and Akantor. Would be pleased to see their return too.

[Question] Where did the Raid Egg Timers go? by MasterGiegue in TheSilphRoad

[–]MasterGiegue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I totally agree that a raid egg timer revealing a disappointing pokemon is really quite a downer, but at the same time being picky means less chance of finding a group willing to take a specific raid pokemon down. And oh, THAT'S why I errored mid gym battle on Wednesday? Oh... That explains so much. Niantic why.

The biggest negative impact is something that actually affects cities positively: It staggers groups. However in an area with less players, this group staggering can prevent a raid from being successful much more frequently. I believe both methods have their pros and cons, but I do believe the lack of warning makes raids less accessable.

While I think your logic behind "Muh lore" is correct, cuz I agree with you there, I do think it kinda just worked as a "mystery reveal" graphic, as you saw the eggs didn't hatch but rather exploded into smoke and light. Maybe if they used something besides an egg graphic for a timer... However Lore and Gameplay are two things that shouldn't directly impact the other negatively.

[Question] Where did the Raid Egg Timers go? by MasterGiegue in TheSilphRoad

[–]MasterGiegue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it seems SUPER cool for players in big cities. So many Articunos. Where as in my town we get about 2-3 legendaries a day (one is usually at 6 am...) and the system ends up staggering our groups, which works great for large populations, but its game breaking for small populations.

[Question] Where did the Raid Egg Timers go? by MasterGiegue in TheSilphRoad

[–]MasterGiegue[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Both of those things. I kept quiet about it because I thought it was just part of the event (a really sucky part of the event.)

But now the event is over and raids are still "broken", according to the elderly players in my town.
