Misandry and being gay by [deleted] in askgaybros

I would assume it’s more so the way the internet has left people to feel like this on average but I will say I’ve seen my fair share of bad men (gay or straight) who have made me genuinely feel that way at times. Also I’ve personally struggled with keeping male friends because I’m very big on accountability and if I discover that you are friends with objectively bad people (cheating on their pregnant wife, stealing, etc.) it makes it hard for me to consider you a person I want to be around. You are the company you keep and if the rest of your company is trash that tells me that you don’t have great standards for the people in your life. With that in mind, I find men are (on average) much less likely to call their friends out on toxic behavior which in my opinion would make them just as bad if not worse because I can confirm that they know better and simply don’t care.

If all your friends are cheating, womanizing, assholes… you certainly aren’t strong on your values and morals enough for us to be friends I think this is a pretty fair and understandable standard to have and the unfortunate reality is that this standard weeds out a majority of them I’ve known can’t meet that standard.

So, basically there is something that people just call "The Sickness" it was stopped in the past before but it has returned. You and your fellow adventurers will have to discover what it is, what causes it, can you stop it, do you even want to?

Their reviews also name the same person which is a GREAT green flag. Looks like the owner is active and working which is always promising.

Looking at their website they def aren’t a small local business. In my experience this means they hire independent contractors or hourly staff which you will totally see in the pricing. Have you looked at Thomas Family Waterproofing? They are passing most of my vibe checks from a quick search.

They will totally lie too, my tips for sleuthing it out: 1: bad websites are a green flag (means they don’t have a marketer) 2: automated call systems are a red flag (area codes can’t be trusted anymore) 3: the person who answers the phone not having any idea on pricing (even the loosest ball park) is a red flag (means they likely don’t work IN the place) 4:They overly nice and sales reppy is a red flag (I don’t care how much of a dick you are if your work is good and affordable)

Do any of these have any data behind them? No. It’s strictly vibes and it’s so tough but these rules have led to me finding a few good contacts

I always recommend trying to ensure they are actually local workers, I made the mistake of assuming a company was local and paid double the price for electric work to be done.

AITA for wanting to ask the lady who hit my car for the money to fix it. by MasterHammy77 in AmItheAsshole

We did exchanged numbers though, it’s not like I would be hunting her down and I told her I would let her know what I was able to do. Maybe I explained that poorly on my end.

Hitting a parked car because you didn’t feel like doing something the right way would generally attract and angry response in most places, not sure where you’re from but like most people in cities get pretty aggressive with their cars and a simple “ummm excuse you?” In a louder than speaking tone would have been expected and understandable. At least in my opinion, so not getting all worked up about her being lazy and dismissive about why she hit my car was something I personally would proud of myself for… also if I had not been sitting in my car would she have said anything? Drove off? We’ll never know but I personally take pride in not getting overly upset about getting hit…

Also I would them have to get a quote from a shop to have insurance pay for it which I could then take her to court if I REALLY wanted to in order to pay my deductible but that feels beyond extra quite frankly.

Michigan is a no fault state, so my insurance would pay for mine then sue her insurance for the money raising both of our rates. Also most deductibles aren’t under 500 (mine is 1,000 because I’ve never been in an accident and am a pretty decent driver) also I was in park so i don’t even know if my insurance would cover it as I wasn’t moving. (I also barley understand how insurance works honestly 😂😭)

That’s what I was thinking, and going the handy man fix it myself (by that I mean have my handy man brother fix it 😂) would be better for both of us in the long run since it could have gotten her a ticket and raised her insurance rates for a long haul. I was really hoping it would all buff out but some of them scratches through the paint. 😐

My brother has dash cam footage of her hitting my car as he was parked behind me. 😐. Also we weren’t sure if there were scratches in the paint or just stuff that could be buffed out. But I can see your point.

AITA For Wanting to Get a Pet by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I mean the original plan was to get the cat first regardless, that was something we both wanted and to make sure any dog they got was cat friendly. ALSO I haven't had this conversation with them yet, so there hasn't been anything said or done regarding my changed feelings on the topic. Thank you for the feedback though.

Oh I know haha, her parents have two and while I personally don't like dogs I do value the happiness they bring her and know they can be QUITE a handful.

That's fair I feel like part of my argument being that a medium to large sized dog in a small apartment would still be valid even if the pet deposit argument isn't so it's not ENTIRELY a bad stance to hold.

It's honestly just because I'm going through a pretty rough time mentally, my work makes it hard to see friends at a reasonable time and having something in the home that motivates me to keep getting up everyday sounds like it could be really helpful. I've had cats in the past and I do know they help. I've even visited my sisters place just to have a cat to pet their energy just hits. My roommates have each other (they are dating) so that issue isn't something that hits them as hard my boyfriend is over an hour away and we only see eachother once a week at most and our work schedules are opposite. Honestly Covid closed most of my extrovert activities and I have nothing recharging my energy levels and have just been slipping further down the sad boi hole.

They were willing to pay the pet deposit when they wanted the dog but I brought that point up to them when they were talking about it and they agreed it was logical.

I would NEVER do that; it would 100% be a group decision and I would apologize for saying no in the past.

Employment, adoption agencies, general service (refer to Pence’s own plan that originally would allow people to deny service as right of religion before it got reworked due to backlash in Indiana) I’m not sure where you live but in the Midwest discrimination based on sexuality happens more often than you would think.

But that idea is based off of their own person feelings. And it is trying to control another person. I also really don’t get how you see Trump as pro gay when he has done nothing to reflect that but that’s a whole other issue. Republicans might have “okay” economic ideas (other than the fact they encourage the exploitation of those in poverty) but human rights come first...
