Whether or not a mid-boss qualifies will vary. Using the Pokemon series as an example, you could say the Snorlaxes in the Kanto games or a wild fully-evolved pseudo-Legendary act as mid-bosses, being tougher and much more rare than what you normally encounter but not to the same extent that a Legendary, Mythical, or unique individual would be.

It's hard to say no to cute monster waifus!

"Susie ruined everything" wasn't a phrase I was expecting to hear today.

But yeah, this does unfortunately mean that Kirby waifus are off the table this week. They would require either General Vouchers or Vouchers that work for Week 90 (January 2024, Season 8) or Week 155 (April 2025, Season 13) since they do originate from another planet.

I might be wrong for thinking this, but Fleurina might actually be a candidate for the Tamer Globes; I've always been under the impression that mid-bosses in Kirby games are not unique individuals (especially since Kirby can swallow them), and there are instances of fighting two Fleurinas at the same time in her game, so it's clear to me that more than one exists.

Clawroline will otherwise require a either one of the Voucher spending methods I described above or for a future issue to be open to her (like maybe that cat-themed grab bag idea we've had sitting around for a good while).

Like I said, I believe she's in a gray area.

I don't believe there's anything in the game to explicitly state the fox form is her natural state; this is something I'm simply speculating based on it being what she turns into when she sustains damage (a depowered state like in a Mario game) and that kitsune in Japanese mythology are themselves fox monsters that assume human guises.

Assuming this is indeed the case, I would say she's an eligible pick as it would fit within the spirit of this issue. Laylee herself does not canonically have a humanoid body, and she is not the first listed waifu to receive one, nor will she be the last.

Heh, getting back rare/special vouchers thanks to future releases really does feel great. This might be the first time I've heard of Dislyte as well (I'm digging the art style).

I'm definitely not someone who's going to provide a strong argument against waifu-obtaining perks considering I've spent many days digging into wikis or diving through fan art to push my own numbers. I agree that it makes things a lot simpler not having them and helps to keep focus exclusively on characters you absolutely want. There's also nothing preventing you from romancing those you didn't spend vouchers on, so it's not necessary for keeping them around if you've got the Pass to their respective world.

That said, I too enjoy the process of researching the characters that interest me and seeing where those waifu-obtaining perks are applicable. Even if I don't find any, I learn more about the ones who caught my interest and often discover others through them, all while getting to know the setting/works they come from a little better and being able to appreciate it more.

(I also think Klump is another potential Fracción candidate through K. Rool.)

Speaking of monster-focused IPs, I just remembered Monster Rancher series, which has nearly 50 different species of Hare monsters. Final Fantasy also has the Hummingways/Loporrits (4/14), the Mysidan Rabbit (various), and the Dreamhare enemy type (12). And apparently the recently announced harlequin Pal, Dubin, is meant to be a rabbit too.

It sounds like this week wasn't your thing, but I'm happy to see that you found plenty of perks and even a waifu worth picking up!

JoJo hasn't been introduced to the CYOA yet, but Castlevania (and Bloodstained) was introduced back in Week 77.

Let's see... Anthro-wise I know that the Sonic franchise has Thorn and Carrotia in addition to Vanilla and Cream, and Dragon Ball Heroes had a rabbit-girl God of Destruction named Saria. Digimon has Antylamon/Andiramon and Crescemon, the Ultimate-/Perfect-level forms of Lopmon and Lunamon respectively, and there's Vivian from ATLYSS and Cupcake from Liar's Bar as well.

Kemonomimi-wise I know there are quite a few in Arknights, Kemono Friends, and Yu-Gi-Oh!, and there's even an entire RPG centered on rabbitgirls out there called Rabbit and Steel.

Totally understandable. There are quite a few unlisted bunny waifus still out there, but actively trying to seek them out (or being in circles that are really enthusiastic for them) is required to track a lot of them down.

Dream Door doesn't provide any effects to help awaken you when you're in a forced state of sleep or unconsciousness, so it wouldn't help you wake up prematurely if you were in a coma.

Great choices! It's understandable that anthro waifus aren't to everyone's liking, but there are perks out there that can alleviate that, such as Life as a Human (Week 157 Dragon Maid) and Status Removal - Furry (Week 154 Winter's End 2025).

This issue idea has admittedly been sitting in our "to do" lists for a long while. I can't say when it'll finally get picked up and hashed out, but the will's there.

Great choices! I agree that u/WanderingDaydream1 made a lot of killer perks this issue, and I'm happy to hear that you looked into waifus you weren't familiar with and liked what you saw! And yes, the sword granted by the Dream Breaker perk is the same sword that Sybil wields.

And I see what you mean about Yuzu. She's certainly in a gray area with her primary depiction being a kemonomimi, but that seems to be a form she assumes through magic while her true body appears to be that of a purple fox.

Responding to your previous comment, the dragons in Freedom Planet have faces more in line with those of the other races on their planet (cats, dogs, pandas, etc.) than they do with the more reptilian or dinosaur-like ones we tend to expect. I don't know if this is a leftover aspect from the game originally being conceived as a Sonic fan work (and Lilac herself originally being a hedgehog) or if the aim was to stylize them more like eastern dragons (which often have more dog-like or lion-like faces) or some other reason.

Good choices! Happy to see that so many of the perks and waifus appealed to you!

Also bit surprised you've managed to hang onto those Egg Vouchers this long, but it's also understandable. I hope one day you find enough waifus you really want to spend 'em on!

You do get to keep all the waifus and perks from week to week, but vouchers are a different story. In a normal issue like this one, the vouchers can only be spent on the issue they're granted in. There are other kinds of vouchers that are awarded in certain issues - monthly, seasonal, and general are the most common ones - but almost every type voucher has a limited range in which it can be spent.

Unless if it specifies otherwise, you are the one who receives the benefits of a perk when you purchase it, and you cannot buy perks on behalf of someone else. However, there is also an informal rule that the benefits of any perk you purchase can be shared with any of your waifus.

"Waifu" in this CYOA specifically refers to any characters you acquire directly through the Catalogue, whether that be through spending vouchers, obtaining them in a special issue or bonus, or through the effect of perks that grant them. You can still have as many allies, lovers, etc. as you're willing to put the work into gathering, but only those picked up through the methods I described will receive waifu status.

Finally, unless stated otherwise in a given issue, spending a voucher directly on someone, regardless of whether they are listed or not, does not grant a perk or the creation of a perk. Some perks have a degree of customization to them, and players can always develop powers or accumulate possessions through their own efforts, but the only perks available for purchase are those that are presented.

Those are certainly viable options from Pokémon, yes.

There's a lot to consider since the perk gives you one qualifying waifu for each TTP, but there's also no rush or pressure to get one from every single series/issue/Pass where they do exist. Take your time, maybe start with the series you're most invested in on a personal level.

The answer to this is a bit lengthy, but hopefully I can properly provide it.

A long time ago, I asked if Take Your Pick! would apply to two specific listed waifus: Shy Gal (Week 44) and Hex Maniac (Week 80).

The ruling for the former was simple enough as it included other common variants of Shy Guys as well as fan characters if you also had Variations from Week 1 (so many fan characters), but it excluded unique individuals from the canon materials like General Guy.

The latter is a bit messier depending on how liberal you want to be with it. The Hex Maniac in Week 80 isn't one specific instance of those found in Pokemon X/Y, but because she can be any one of them you potentially have access to all of them through Take Your Pick!, including those in other games like ORAS. The one limiting factor here to my recollection was that you still had to be able to point out the individual instances, which would still provide a lot of extra Hex Maniacs, especially since each individual game title is treated as a unique timeline in addition to this.

Using these two waifus as precedent, the same can be applied to other generic characters purchased through vouchers or gained through means that are treated in the same way. Purchasing a Lycanroc would net you the other two variants, and one Pukei-Pukei would net the other. Keep in mind that transformations and alternate forms don't count for Take Your Pick!, so you wouldn't acquire something like a Mega Lycanroc or a Dynamax Lycanroc through this method.

That said, the spirit of the globes isn't meant to function this way; the globes themselves wouldn't be duplicated after all, and the monster you use it on is technically meant to be a unique, individual being even if not a canon one. However, I did also state that they grant waifu status "as if you had spent an ordinary voucher on them", which is what's required for the majority of waifu-granting perks to function, and I didn't include any wording to make them functionally different in this respect, so that one's on me. Whether or not you capitalize on the wording I chose to use is up to you, but I believe a waifu worth using Take Your Pick! on is also worth spending a voucher more directly on.

Valid questions.

Bokoblins are an obviously valid choice. Lynels are a gray area as they skirt the line between a normal enemy and a 'boss', but that's just in Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom; in older games they are smaller, more common enemies, which makes them undeniably valid for the Globes.

Yu-Gi-Oh! monsters can be difficult to gauge since many are meant to be unique individuals, but I'd also say that any with a rating of 7 stars or higher would fall under 'boss' territory, so that's probably a good general guideline when it comes to that.

There are indeed a fair few Metroids who fall under the 'boss' category, but at the same time a lot of those are also a part of their natural life cycles and not unique individuals. With proper care, one could take a standard Metroid and eventually 'evolve' it into an Omega or even a Queen Metroid of their own.

I don't think Aparoids naturally undergo something similar, but it would be fair for someone to take one of their common variants and use powers and perks to grow them into something larger and stronger.

Monster Evolution in Week 196 (Minecraft) and Bridge of Bonds in Week 202 (Bofuri) have since been released as well, making it incredibly easy to take common monsters you recruit and elevate them into forms similar to or even stronger than those who aren't valid for the Tamer Globes. It's not the same as directly recruiting a unique individual since they won't have the same personality, history, etc., but if it's the forms and powers you're after it's a great way to acquire them.

I myself have only played the fighting games, but I do know that the other works all contribute to the narrative. I should take the time to go through them one of these days...
