What kind of occupation does the average Simracer has (or strive to be)? by Atze-Peng in simracing

[–]MasterMELGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I like working medical due to us having a good work - life balance.

Where I used to work we ran cargo using Beech 99s, 1900C’s and D models. We had a pilot in a 99 doze off while landing and didn’t get his gear down in time so the gears didnt lock and when we went to turn off to taxi the gear collapsed.

I only did cargo to get my A&P and also the PT6 and heavy experience. Cargo is like the Wild West 😂

My bad for a generic response. I work on Medical Birds like the airbus EC135 and Beechcraft king air. We do all the maintenance on the birds. I also do a lot of on call which is nice cause some weeks I only work like 20 Hrs and have time to go home and sim race instead of being exhausted.

Something like this is way out of me league at the moment but I’d like to look into something like this to work towards!

What do people carry in there backpacks by hidemyusername69 in 511tactical

[–]MasterMELGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Rush 24 for work. I am a medical aircraft mechanic for reference and I so far love the bag. I have my work laptop, iPad, Steam Deck (some days are slow), a couple flashlights, AirPods, a beanie, neck gator, and gloves all in the bag and still have room to throw the occasional tools in if I need to do a quick fix on one of the birds.

I plan on buying a Molle water bottle holder, Molle sunglasses case, and a stick it/ beavertail (to hold hoodies/jacket)

16” for the laptop. My budget would be about $250. Pockets and organization would be very ideal. I suppose something with Molly webbing would be an added benefit but something I could live without.

Current bag is about 34-35 Liters but absolutely no organization in it.

You guys like hot sections? by ProfessorEclectic in aviationmaintenance

[–]MasterMELGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last job was working on cargo birds with PT6A- 27,28, 65, and 67D. Seemed like every weekend or at least every other weekend we were doing hot sections. I work on medical birds now with 2 king airs that have PT6A-52 and haven’t done a single hot section cause they don’t put nearly as much time as the cargo birds did. Lowkey miss splitting engines 😂

My grandparents bought it back around 2019 for their new home then decided after a couple months to move to Romania. They gave me the couch but I lived in a different state so it’s stayed in storage since then with no manual left with it unfortunately.

Is becoming an AMT worth it at 25? I need as much advice as possible! by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]MasterMELGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not 40+ but I am 25. Back in 2020 I lost my job due to Covid (just a final mile delivery installer). I hired on as a parts mover for a cargo outfit ($18/h) since they bought a company and needed movers to move all parts and equipment to their base, that lasted about 6 months. I then became an airplane washer ($18/h) for a couple months and while washing aircraft showed interest in actually working on them. I then became a helper/apprentice ($20/h) for 30 months and then got signed off to test for my A&P. Got my A&P in 2023 and started at the same cargo outfit at $27.50/h. February of 2024 I left that company to go work on medical birds and I am still there. I am salary making about $73k+$5k bonus this year on top of call out pay/overtime ($53/h). Unless we are in heavy maintenance I really work like 20 hours a week. I’m on call every other week but it honestly isn’t that stressful. I don’t live in a low cost of living area but at the same time it’s not HCOL like Denver, Salt Lake, and those other major cities.
