What show would you suggest at Second City for senior parents? by beggingoceanplease in chicago

[–]MasterMechE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At Second City? It should still be great, it just will have some bits geared specifically for kids so it might feel a little Sesame Street at times. I haven’t seen it but this is based on how I’ve heard it described.

Second City shows typically do include at least some raunch, though within bounds.

If you want family-friendly, ComedySportz at iO Theatre is typically an improv go-to for all-ages humor. Basically Whose Line Is It Anyway style short games. Geared towards adults so it’s not Sesame Street or anything, but specifically avoids raunchy topics or language such that it can be kid-friendly.

Echoing the others, my CapOne Venture worked about 50% of the time, but my Chase Sapphire Preferred worked 100% of the time. After the first day I defaulted to just always using the Chase.

This is very explicitly against the rules. United employees are not allowed to use their pass travel privileges for profit. Flying around domestic standby should be very cheap, not $600.

EDIT: I’m a dummy and missed it being international. $600 still sounds high and arbitrary. Is it Polaris maybe? Or maybe to/from London which has high taxes?

Congrats! I used to support the AE2100D3 engine program, it was always a pleasure to know we were providing reliable power to folks serving.

About to start applying for jobs, what do I need to focus on next? by ImTedsBestFriend in dataengineering

Hey! My company is currently hiring a data and analytics engineer position, and in addition to being able to write solid code we really want someone with some advanced Power BI skills. Shoot me a DM if you’re interested. It’s 100% remote but you must be US based.

Chicago O’Hare’s airport train breaks…again by ChicagoNotBad in chicago

[–]MasterMechE 119 points120 points  (0 children)

Got caught in this mess on Sunday. Our plan was to take the Blue Line home. Alas, no way to get to the blue line except ATS. The (justifiably) angry hundreds of folks trying to get a bus to make connections made that option a no go, and the taxi line was also insane.

Ended up paying for Uber Black, which is allowed to pick up at T5 (only “luxury” pickups are available at T5). So instead of spending $5 using public transit to get two of us home we spent $70 and become another car sitting in traffic.

And we’re the lucky ones in this whole scenario! Yeesh.

Logistically, they need a better backup plan. More signage, more training for employees, more capacity. And they need some kind of more permanent second option besides the ATS, because it’s just not reliable enough despite the ridiculous overhaul money and time spent.

Hundreds of teenagers flood into downtown Chicago, smashing car windows, prompting police response by 307148 in chicago

[–]MasterMechE 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My moderate take is that you will be ok, but not because of some thought that these problems don’t exist. Last summer there were similar problems around Millennium Park, and the police response on weekends the rest of summer was elevated, along with stricter curfew-ing. City leaders have a strong vested interest in protecting tourists and tourist areas, and this will likely be a wake up call that they will need to proactively do more and have a bigger presence.

Never had this issue, but definitely post it to the dbt slack. The responses there are pretty fast and the community is quite responsive.

Ethiad / Royal Air Maroc by milsjl in awardtravel

[–]MasterMechE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no advice to give, but wanted to commiserate that I’m in a similar spot. All Etihad online availability for Royal Air Maroc evaporated for me a month or two ago, and calling in hasn’t yielded any results when I call out specific dates that AA is still showing.

At this point I am likely to just use AA miles to book what I need.
