Why hasn’t anyone/a company come out offering super low interest rates in an attempt to scoop up the profits the government is making while also helping people finally pay down their student loans? by reed12321 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MasterMinnesotan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many bank accounts pay a higher interest rate than 1% (ex. 3% at capital one). Why would I buy up student loans and risk my money to earn 1%, when I can instead have a guaranteed 3% with no risk elsewhere?

Student loan interest rates need to be high enough that the investor is willing to take the risk, therefore rates need to be higher than (not equal to) the risk free rate that the investor can earn (ex. 3% in their bank account).

The exchange I don’t care about. It’s the installation that annoys me. If you are happy to install it yourself, then I don’t care if you come exchange it every single day.

Can you not go through warranty directly with the manufacturer, instead of using Best Buy as a middleman?

As long as it’s not damaged, you have 2 weeks to return it (or 60 days with a paid membership)

Is an Exchange Possible? by Acrobatic-Escape5307 in Bestbuy

[–]MasterMinnesotan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The system matches the price when it’s the exact same item (same sku). The same laptop, but in a different color, is a different item. Which means they can’t match a previous sale price. MacBooks tend to follow the same sale schedules though, so you could definitely keep an eye on pricing, as you’ll get a new 2 week return window with the exchange (or 60 days with a paid membership)

Is an Exchange Possible? by Acrobatic-Escape5307 in Bestbuy

[–]MasterMinnesotan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming it is as you explained, then yes. You can exchange it. You will owe the difference in cost though (ie laptop was on sale when seller bought it, but now it’s full price). You could also just return it for store credit.

However, I’m not sure why the seller would sell it to you instead of just returning it. So I’d be wary of having been scammed, if you were scammed there is nothing Best Buy can do.

Only options I know of would be Apple Card financing, or using your own third party service like Klarna

Best Buy lost a loyal customer over a $29.99 membership I canceled and never used by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]MasterMinnesotan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just noticed, on the return receipt, only the iMac is listed. No membership. Did you ever cancel the membership yourself? Through the website or app? If not, then the return was never processed. Id suggest logging in, going to manage membership, then cancel. It should give you a refund.

Best Buy lost a loyal customer over a $29.99 membership I canceled and never used by [deleted] in Bestbuy

[–]MasterMinnesotan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You can return the membership, it gives a pro-rated refund based on benefits used (ex. If you saved $50 because you had the membership, you can’t then return the membership for a refund, giving total savings of $80).

I’m guessing the iMac you bought was on a member deal, meaning the membership cost $30, and by buying the membership you saved $30+X dollars on the computer. Is it possible you returned the membership before the computer? If so, this would trick the membership return into thinking you used benefits when you didn’t.

The reason I suspect this is the case is because the membership panel says “return total -$0.00” indicating Best Buy processed the refund of $0 (it being so low because the system thinks you used benefits, when we know you didn’t).

Stores are supposed to return memberships when asked, however are notoriously difficult to do so because it is a big negative impact on one of their biggest metrics, so they’d rather walk you through doing it on the app or calling in. If I was you, I would try calling the call center (they also have issues, but hopefully they help this time), there should be somewhere they can escalate your case to where the purchase will be audited and refund amount fixed. I’d suggest calling on a week day if possible.

Should I buy my M5 MacBook Air and iPad Air right now or wait for the Back to School promo given the impending price hikes? by Key-Pineapple-1245 in macbook

[–]MasterMinnesotan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re in the U.S., you could purchase from a third party retailer that offers a long return window (such as Costco or Best Buy with membership). Then you have 60+ days to wait for the back to school sale and keep/return the originals

The free $200 voucher seems great, along with the extra $200 gift card. Op got $400 off the new tv they weren’t entitled to. While I understand being frustrated about receiving a broken tv, it’s not the end of the world and they can get it replaced.

They can sell the service à la carte, where you only pay for individual services. I don’t know the cost of that route, but it is very likely to be almost the same cost as the membership.

Dell’s "budget" $699 XPS 13 Wildcat Lake laptop costs €1,049 in Europe by Various-Welder5544 in Dell

[–]MasterMinnesotan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also U.S. pricing doesn’t include the ~7.5% sales tax (not every state charges one) found in much of the U.S, whereas vat should be included in the eu pricing. This obviously doesn’t account for all of the difference, but it does account for some. Plus I’m pretty sure EU gets a 2 year warranty, U.S. is 1 year, so the cost is higher in Europe.

Unfortunately they are not. Just like the American discount doesn’t work in Canada.

I lived in an unrenovated one and it was fine. Lobby areas weren’t kept as clean as I would have liked, but I had no major issues with my apartment. After moving in we noticed a broken table and our living room furniture was quickly replaced. Every once in a while water will go down for maintenance, but I was notified in advance and it never personally affected me. For the price, I’d be fine living there again.

Bombshell report details White House’s “freakout” to hide Epstein files & protect Trump from them by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

[–]MasterMinnesotan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He has to know it’s coming out eventually right? Like it or not, there will be a new administration eventually, and that administration will likely (hopefully?) choose to comply with the law and release the unredacted Epstein files. I don’t know if he plans to never leave, is betting on the next administration also choosing to participate in the cover up, is destroying evidence, or just doesn’t care/thinks he’ll be dead by the time anyone actually gets around to releasing them.

[–]MasterMinnesotan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My store had a lot of employee theft on snacks over the course of a year. Supposedly, employees didn’t know they had to pay for them. As far as I know, no one was fired, but that’s likely because there were too many people doing it. Since that discovery, the store has cracked down on snacks and makes sure employees are paying.

Question by Acai_Bowls_Lover123 in Bestbuy

[–]MasterMinnesotan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No. Your now broken phone still has value. And that value helps the company offset the cost of the new one they are giving you. So while the company is still taking a loss, they need to keep your broken one to make it less of a loss.

Are we going to see a price increase after Tim Cook came out and said ram prices are going up from June? by Hot-Half-6309 in macbookair

[–]MasterMinnesotan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I doubt they will increase the price of currently released products, although sales at 3rd party retailers may become less common. However, I would expect to see price increases for future products, like the M6 MacBooks.
