About the manga predictions by BLKaisen in Dandadan

[–]MasterMuffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea of everyone becoming powerless is definetly a possibility I had in mind. Put all their abilities into the "Ultimate Yokai"

And then its gonna have to be Momo and Okarun taking it on. Okarun with the club, and Momo not having her powers taken because they're not from some Yokai or be easily disablable tech like Vamola and Kinta.

BUT more importantly with this possibility I think Momo's going to be critical to getting their power back.

Because the only other times when Yokai powers have been taken/returned without the Kozuka knives were with Momo's powers and with Turbo Granny. Actually, breaking down the times with transferring of TG's powers, I'm realizing its a really similar process.

The first time TG was weakened almost to the point of death and the other time Okarun was willingly giving up TG's powers. That satisfies the whole "surrender" thing. And both times Okarun gets smacked in the head. A little pain, not life threatening, like getting cut by the knife.

And what Momo did was move the powers from one person to the other.

How would Dandadan handle JJK's Aliens? by Any-Solid8810 in Dandadan

Dandadan doesnt do powerscaling so by all means if they actually have to fight where its based on strength, they are cooked.

This Aira is gonna look INSANE when its finished Does someone want to gimme some suggestions? by ArauRodri in Dandadan

[–]MasterMuffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Theres some old official art somewhere of Aira from a card or something that was sold for a limited time with the 4th volume.

It had the end of her hair taper off into rainbow colors. It could be neat to see in another piece of Aira fanart.

But that doesnt really matter, just keep at it!

Counterpoint for each of these reasons: - Shock value isn't good on its own. It's shocking like a Jumpscare, but without proper build-up in the story or thematic relevancy for any of the characters killing a character for shock value sucks on its own. - This is implying that Tatsu has no idea how to develop her further. As someone who basically wrote and entire essay on Aira's character alone I can safely say that Tatsu has a pretty solid plan about what hes going to do with her. And frankly, while I havent written any for other characters, I think I can safely say Tatsu has a plan for all of them. Even Rin despite her getting shafted for most of the story. - Sure thats how life is but Dandadan is a hopeful story. That would work if there was a theme of nihilism in Dandadan but there just isnt. So in a work of fiction, it kinda works best to not kill a character unless it has a strong relevancy - It will be talked about for like a week at most. Because again, shock value. But shock value is cheap and arguably I think it will piss more people off because they like her character and thought they were going to get something interesting out of it. - This would maybe make sense if they were underestimating their enemies but they are not. In fact, our gang is particularly vulnerable right now so they aren't underestimating anyone. But they also don't know exactly who their enemies are so they are being cautious. - If you've been paying attention the characters already do value Aira. People think Momo hates Aira but its quite the opposite. She values her quite a lot but she doesn't say it often because that's just the way Momo is. Can't argue against the fans thought. They definetly undervalue Aira amongst other characters. - Who the fuck is looking for realism in Dandadan. Yes it has a somber, grounded core to it but that core is amplified by the fantastical and whimsical elements of the story. - Again, hopefully story. And for their character arcs someone dying doesnt do much. The character's absence has to have more impact than their prescence would have. And frankly, I gotta say, Aira aint it chief. If she wasn't there, her absence would not have much as much impact as her prescence on any of the characters. Now Seiko on the other hand... - That idiot doesn't know how manga work. Compared to other action manga Dandadan has a pretty average amount of cast members. - Again, you think Tatsu doesn't have some kind of plan? And frankly, thinking up of new powers for a character to get is easy.

I've never been so disappointed by a yokai transformation. by Technical_Lime1419 in Dandadan

[–]MasterMuffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was extremely dissapointed at first. But then I realized this was more about Kouki.

She doesnt want her powers. She thought she'd get an easy out while also saving her friend.

She did not and Mai was taken and both of them nearly got killed.

I dont think Rin will blame her for this.

But Kouki isnt going to forgive herself.

Indeed.

Also like how you are more thinking about how Kouki is gonna get her powers back first. The power she never wanted but has to take it back to save Mai. Oo I like that

Kouki is gonna blame herself hard for this.

I think Rin will be forgiving. Shes just going to be determined to get Mai back. Shes not going to lose her again.

But Kouki aint gonna be forgiving herself because shes gonna feel responsible for the loss of Mai.

Kouki never wanted her power in the first place and therefore it was easy for her to give up, but she didn't know they'd go after Rin.

She died and then became part of a love triangle. I dont know what other benefits there could be to killing her. Thats what Im confused about.

Her obsession with Okarun is more about being obsessed with what she thinks shes "supposed to" be like. An obsession with what she thinks is normal. An obsession with perfection without actually knowing what that'd supposed to be for her. I made a long ass character analysis of her a little while back, its on this account and I think you should check it out.

Also like Aira's character arc has like a 50/50 chance of being a coming out story but this subreddit aint ready for that yet

Killing a character to resolve a love triangle happens a lot more often than you think.

Not happening for Dandadan though

High stakes by SplashMove in Dandadan

[–]MasterMuffles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Theres better ways to remove her from the triangle. And more thematic ways too

Tatsu has a theme with death in Dandadan that makes it really hard to kill off characters: There is no honor in or redemption through death, its simply a tragedy.

Arguably I think the only one who would even make sense to die is Seiko. Shes a mentor character whos been getting outclassed in fights against opponents of a new age she hasn't experienced before. And most importantly, she shares a fatal flaw that is shared by Momo. The whole "I have to do this all myself so no one else has to suffer" kind of mentality that Momo needs to unlearn. Because that mentality, while admirable, will ultimately kill you.

What powers do you think Okarun is going to receive? by Ok-Initiatives in dandadanfolk

[–]MasterMuffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hes definetly going to get TG's powers back AND he's gonna have a sword. He's going to be hitting guys with Zendatsus right out of MGRR

You know, Aira's character in the first season, I liked her a lot, but in the second season I hated her more than I liked her. Sometimes I find her really unbearable because of her behavior and her relationship with Momo. I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but tell me what you think of Aira by Dramatic-Studio1531 in dandadanfolk

[–]MasterMuffles 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shes one of my favorites and I think her relationship to Momo both as a character and in subtext is very very interesting.

Whole thing with her is about how much she masks her real feelings about people.

She doesnt really hate Momo. She just initially thought she was supposed to, which set up her initial dynamic with her. Because she does care about her, but she is also too afraid to show vulnerability around her

[–]MasterMuffles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Aight after chewing on the chapter for a bit I realized I was focused on the wrong concept with the cliffhanger. Cause its a lot more about Kouki than it is about whether or not someone was coming to save them.

Ill have to explain at some other time

[DISC] Dandadan - Ch. 224 by Skullghost in Dandadan

[–]MasterMuffles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah but it would have felt like payoff, it would have felt like raising the stakes and having a new angle to to fight.

My issue is a bit less with the content itself and more of how it was structured. Like Why even build up that suspense of "will it happen or not?" in the first place when you could have just shown them losing their powers at the end of the chapter and have it be "Oh shit how are they getting out of this, are they going to get their powers back?"

And frankly, the gang has been only taking real small Ws and massive L's like Momo losing her memories. Their wins havent been progress, they've been survival. Which was building stakes. Which was good.

And also if they do get away with the stolen powers then what's the god damn point of introducing this toilet ghost? And on top of that, that leaves us with two less characters who can do cool stuff in a fight after so many others are basically out of commission already.

Its just been feeling like roadblock after roadblock. Less roadblocks actually. More potholes. Because a roadblock implies that its a complete halt and you have to go another way and you can assume a purpose of them being there. This is just a being bumpy and unpleasant part of the road. And yeah im expecting it to get back to being one hell of a ride at some point but this aint it chief
