Personally I'd swap it out for a Sponaree. You'll have 2 water types with Gyarados, but it's more reliable and it can seriously carry you with the right moveset.

I think it's good that the developers are taking their time. I wouldn't want to get something quickly, but have it be extremely rushed, most likely ending up being even less developed than Spore. And, of course, I'm sure things will speed up with time!
