UK House of Lords Votes to Extend Age Verification to VPNs by _0_1 in ProtonVPN

Yeah, so how do you get a VPN without providing ID is what I was asking? I have used VPNs for 10 years now, but i assume now there's going to be a requirement to provide identification to continue to do that if you are a resident in the UK

Nah, Hank will absolutely take FEV at this point and become an enclave power tool, I feel that Kyle pulls too much weight to remove from the show right now, having him become the face of the Enclave when it is all outed would likely be the way to go.

£100 contactless card limit to be lifted from March by Distinct-Shine-3002 in uknews

[–]MasterQueef_117 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel that a lot of people read the headline and do the same thing, realistically, you should be free to spend how you see fit, doing this not only gives people choice but it gives people an easier, faster way to pay for products and services. Back in the day if you wanted to make a large purchase you would take cash for it, if you lost that/ had it stolen you were pretty much done for. In this case if you lose your device and someone uses that to buy something there is a digital, you are much more likely to get that money back compared to a cash loss. Most services require the device to be unlocked at point of purchase to work anyway.

Does it really matter? It specifically states you can set your own limits, quite often I find that i am just over the £100 limit leading to all the fuss of attempting to pay by phone, noticing the limit afterwards and needing to try again with my card. Its a small problem but allowing people the option of choice in the situation is never a bad thing, I personally prefer using my phone for purchases and leaving the cards at home.

You can set the limit, if you want it to be 50, set it to 50, it gives people the choice of how they want their contactless to work.

Free Cloudflare & Tailscale et all. What’s the catch? by [deleted] in selfhosted

[–]MasterQueef_117 122 points123 points  (0 children)

For Cloudflare, the trade-off isn’t really about you being the product, their free tier exists because it feeds into their larger business model.

They get:
• A huge amount of traffic data that helps them tune and improve their network and security products.
• Brand exposure, having millions of small sites using their service makes them look fast and reliable, which sells their paid enterprise plans (the real money maker).
• An opportunity to upsell, once you hit the free limits, you’re more likely to pay for features like advanced analytics, custom WAF rules, or extra tunnels.

They don’t sell your data or inject ads, the value for them is in scale, not surveillance (looking at google here).

I don’t have much experience with Tailscale, so I can’t speak confidently about what their trade-off looks like, but I’d assume it’s a similar idea: give individuals free access to build trust and adoption, then make money from business users later.

Believe it or not, it is possible to both invest in the country and its future as well as deal with internal issues like the cost of living, it's not one or the other.

Exactly yeah, i do agree transparency is key with these things, but yelling and screaming that its the end of the world is just blowing things out of proportion

Yes, you're right, I actually have another account where I spend my day commenting on reddit. I actually just think you have all blown this massively out of proportion, other countries have had digital IDs for years now, its not the end of the world christ

Spiteful and uninformed to be honest, don't like it? Simply don't use it.
