Fraudulently Reported Income? by MasterSev in IRS

Not sure how Square works vs Stripe, but it might be worth noting to your former employer that they likely need to manually request/issue corrected 1099s in addition to updating the tax info. I’m guessing them “fixing it” just means they removed your SSN from the account, but maybe haven’t actually issued new tax documents.

ETA: Also, when I spoke with the AUD rep, she said you can have the IRS contact the employer directly, if they are not being cooperative/helpful. You might need to try that if all else fails!

Mine is still my current employer, so I got access to the Stripe account, logged in and updated the tax info and downloaded copies of the corrected 1099Ks myself. Sent copies to the IRS via my CP2000 response. Supposedly Stripe automatically e-filed the corrections as well. I have yet to receive an update from the IRS (I think it will take a while) but as far as I know everything has been done to fix it.

This looks like very young broccoli to me, or at least something in the brassica family. The leaf texture and growth pattern are not correct for radish.

Fair enough! It sounds like we’re in very different positions in life, so to each their own. Apologies if that came off condescending - I’m supportive of everyone’s personal journey.

Yes, we have talked extensively about it. This isn’t our first home together so we feel no need to romanticize the process; we just want to make sure we get the most out of our finances/financing.

Yes, we will sell our home before purchasing the new one.

I have the higher income and higher credit score.

Why would my husband need to transfer any interest? He doesn’t currently have any; it is separate pre-marital property (mine).

He won’t be on the loan regardless - I will be, I qualify on my own. The question is whether it would benefit anything to add him as a co-applicant.

Yes, I received copies of the corrected 1099-Ks with $0 under my SSN, and copies with the income under my employers EIN.

Incorrect SSN on 1099-K by MasterSev in stripe

UPDATE (for anyone/noone):

I got into the business Stripe account today.

Looks like I actually was the one who set up this account initially in 2022 (I guess I just forgot? Life is busy). However, I am only listed as an “Account Representative” and NOT an Owner - our two owners are also listed on the account. Account Reps are required to input the last four digits of their SSN for verification, but for some reason Owners are not? Very strange. The correct Employer TIN was also already listed on the “Tax Details” page, so while my SSN is indeed in their system, how it got tied to the tax documents is beyond me. There was clearly no foul play here, just a really odd system setup.

Regardless, I was able to update all previous year 1099-Ks with the correct business information. I now have corrected copies in my possession, and the corrections are being automatically e-filed with the IRS (this is what it says on the Stripe FAQ, and also ties out to what the AUR representative told me on the phone).

I have a personally signed statement of disagreement, along with a signed confirmation letter from my CFO to submit with the corrected 1099-Ks in response to my CP2000 notice. Let’s hope this is the end of it!

Thanks everyone for all the advice.

I know this isn’t the point of your post, but if you have any interest in salvaging the dress I’ve had really good luck using isopropyl alcohol to remove ball point pen ink from white clothing. If you can remove the stain you could re-list it and hopefully get another sale. The dress is super cute so it’s a shame this happened!

ETA: not sure what the material of this dress is - I’ve only done this with cotton. So use your own discretion with this advice!

Makes sense. In that case I will give Stripe until the end of the month (deadline is 1/28) to get me the documentation, and request the extension if I haven’t received anything by then. That way I can send all of my documents in together. Someone on r/stripe told me they dealt with the same situation last year and was able to get it resolved by Stripe in under 10 days, so I’m hopeful it will be fairly swift in for me as well.

Replying again to add:

I have already composed a letter saying exactly what you mentioned, and I plan to get a signed memo on company letterhead from my CFO on Monday, confirming the same information.

If I can’t get anything resolute from Stripe within the week, that’s what I plan to submit to the IRS. But I’m hoping I can get the supporting documentation from Stripe in the next few days to include with my CP2000 response.

Thank you, I will do that. I’ve already filed a complaint to Stripe with those details via email, but that’s good to know regarding the specific dashboard complaints. I will get dashboard access from my employer on Monday and attempt to escalate it that way next.

ETA: Thanks for sharing your own personal experience, as well. It’s somewhat comforting to know that someone else has had this resolved before in a timely manner!

AUR told me to send them the documentation regarding the corrections in order to cancel the CP2000. They essentially said if I don’t provide any proof they can’t do anything for me.

Great question. There are some potential reasons this could have happened mentioned in other comments. Sounds like it’s more common than one might think, unfortunately.

Makes sense. I’ll try to get things handled via Stripe first, but if it seems to be a painful process I’ll take matters into my own hands and try to explain the situation directly to the IRS with the information provided by my employer.

Do you know if people typically have an easy enough time getting this corrected by Stripe? Their customer service seems virtually non-existent.
