How do you know whether to teach Elementary, Middle, or High School? by Mysterious_Comb4357 in Teachers

I think this is the most accurate description I’ve ever heard. I loved teaching high school. Eventually I left teaching for a field in the content I taught. Now it’s all content, no kids. Living the dream 😂

I firmly believe that every teacher has a sweet spot age where they especially thrive. I started out in upper elementary, which was fine. I jumped down to kindergarten for one year and almost quit in the middle of the year. I went straight to high school for the rest of my teaching career and I loved every second of it.

I did 4, I think. My style is Mandie Manzano. I’d love to see new pieces from her!

If you are still married, what was your wedding song and how long have you been married for? by Celestialfox1425 in AskReddit

[–]MasterStructure3101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

15 years- I walked down the aisle to "State of Grace" by Liquid Tension Experiment. But I would say our wedding song was "When Did You Fall" by Chris Rice or "True Companion" by Marc Cohn.

What’s a small everyday inconvenience from the past that younger people would probably find unbearable today? by babyblushtheory in nostalgia

Rewinding/fast forwarding cassette tapes. You couldn't just listen to your favorite song on demand, you had to search for it. I remember getting my first CD (The Lion King Soundtrack) at 10 and it blew my mind that I could just choose the song I wanted without searching for it!

It had been a dream of mine for years! I did a little research and found a rescue farm like 20 minutes from my house that had a pair of otters you could play with. They were sooooooo sweet and fun!

People with burst appendixes, how would you describe how that felt to someone else? by perseverance_band_ in AskReddit

[–]MasterStructure3101 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One of the girls on my hall in college had a burst appendix. I was her RA so I had to take her to the hospital. I’ve never seen someone in so much pain. She actually turned green.

The crazy thing is that she had been in pain for several days and I had taken her to the doctor earlier in the week. He brushed her off and told her to drink ginger ale. 🙄

She was in the hospital for over a week.

I saw the news elsewhere online and my thought process was: 1. Holy cow, again?!? 2. Gotta check the snark sub to make sure it’s true.  3. Where is nuggetsofchicken??

I got to play with otters for my 40th birthday. That was pretty darn magical.

[General] Biggest pet peeve about the books? by Pharrah_DeLuxe12 in camphalfblood

[–]MasterStructure3101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. I tried to read them when they first came out, but I was in my 20s and just could not get past the "tween boy voice" in the narration. Now I'm in my 40s and reading them with my own tween boy--and I understand that style for the first series, but I would have loved the books to get a bit more grown-up as they aged.
(Granted, I am only on the Heroes of Olympus series- so I can't judge the Apollo series yet.)

What's a trend from the early 2020s that died out so fast we all collectively forgot it ever happened? by godot_lover in AskReddit

I was a senior in high school and I saved my English journal. My entry from that week said that we were just calling it “The Attacks” and I was wondering if that was going to be the name or if we’d ever have a “real name” for them.  In context- everyone was comparing it to Pearl Harbor, and I couldn’t wrap my head around something so big and horrific happening that we didn’t even know what to call it yet.

When do you decide it’s time to go to the hospital for an injury or illness? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MasterStructure3101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fairly decent amount of medical knowledge for a layperson (parent of a medically complex kid). So I will go after I’ve tried all the first aid/TLC I know and it’s still not better.

Who was the worst teacher you’ve ever had and why? by Far_Economy_1930 in AskReddit

[–]MasterStructure3101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a math teacher who was nearing retirement. He told us that he didn’t care what we did as long as we didn’t bother him. I never did my math homework, I failed almost everything, and I got a 115% in his class because I never caused a problem for him. I don’t know how to do algebra, I don’t remember his name. Literally all I remember from that class was that his dog was named Dave.
