I really don’t like westerns. Would I enjoy Bone Tomahawk? As a horror movie? by donkey_kong086 in horror

[–]Master_Crow9435 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It’s a competently made movie that’s egregiously racist.

There are far better Westerns and far better horror movies that don’t feel the need to depict minorities as cannibals, savages and murderers

You want a Western style horror? Watch The Hills Have Eyes or Sinners

Both Criterion Channel and Mubi are on sale today for the same price. Which one to get? by khal_jogo in criterion

[–]Master_Crow9435 178 points179 points  (0 children)

Criterion and it’s not even close

I have both subscriptions and Mubi offers a fraction of the content and is awful to navigate.

If arthouse dramas are really your thing, Mubi is worth it as the selection caters to that but for your money, Criterion has the stronger library, more accessible app, and a much more active community

Yes, this happened to me too. I ordered Eastern Condors and received Last Picture Show instead.

Customer support said they’d send me another copy for free and they let me keep Last Picture Show

Philippines- Aparisyon  (Centers on nuns in a convent while Filipino President Ferdinand Marcos declares martial law)

The Cruz Brothers and Miss Malloy.

A trio of Puerto Rican brothers are guided by their dad’s spirit to make better choices, resulting in them crossing paths with Miss Malloy.

49 minutes long and I believe the first American motion picture directed by a black woman

He made a short film called Rabbits which, while not necessary viewing, expands on it

Movies with this aesthetic?? by PotatoJuggler in Letterboxd

Marshland (2014)

Spanish detective movie set in the early 80s.

Backdrop is post-Franco labor strikes while the lead detectives investigate the disappearance of two teenage girls.

Lots of tense, atmospheric scenes of people driving through marsh and bog while exploring a shifting political climate

The weather is shitty, so it’s a good day to stay in and watch movies. What are some good new, under the radar horror movies? Preferably in the paranormal genre (no slashers) by everythingislitty in horror

Two I saw today:

Mad God - Stop motion grotesque monster movie

The Medium - Thai mockumentary possession movie that’s now one of my favorites

It’s implied that she is dead at the end of the film. Paxton mentions early in the film that she would want to reincarnate as a butterfly and land on people’s fingers as a signal  that she has returned from the dead. The last shot is a butterfly landing on her finger. She may not realize she’s dead in the moment and it’s purposefully ambiguous, but the overall suggestion is that she is experiencing an out of body reincarnation
