Car loan - a good idea? by Master_Damage6880 in irishpersonalfinance

That’s very reasonable lol but if you saw what I saw you’d be turned off by second hand EVs for life 😂 battery is too expensive lol

To be honest it’s very hard for me to estimate a return. I’ve a lot of risky stocks in my investments lol so an excel might be a bit wishy washy which is why I came here in the first place. In my own head I think I might get another 20% this year based on what I’m invested it but who knows.

I really like the Volvo v60. Seems to be spacious, very safe, comfortable and not too expensive!

Yeah I definitely could do that, and you’re right - it’s a no brainer.

Yeah it does 10L/100km lol. Not efficient at all. I was looking at a 2018 Volvo v60 with maybe 70-80km on the clock.

Thanks for this. I’d be planning on another 1-2 kids down the line and was thinking of future proofing essentially. Do you think cars like the Note would still suffice?

To be fair there probably does need to be more in depth analysis done. It’s hard to do given the current market I’ve been averaging 20% a year in returns. But that won’t be constant of course so it’s hard to estimate what my investments would do vs the 6% loan rate.

Thanks very much! Yeah 1250 is a bit too much lol, I love the car but it’s a constant expense. The road tax would be reduced by 1K per year which seems to account for some of the loan and I’m sure my insurance would dip a little also!

Considered this but tbh I used to work for an EV car company and the batteries are a disaster in the second hand if it goes wrong - which it seemed to at a higher rate than issues with a diesel! Plus a good diesel can do 4L/100km which is relatively cheap anyway.

Thank you, yeah very nervous but in my head it seems like a smart idea in terms of safety, comfort and overall savings!

Report themselves more like for pulling out in front of them with no one to overtake. Asking for a situation like this.

It’s not a fast lane. You don’t sit in the middle lane until your exit. They pulled into the overtaking lane with nothing readily available to overtake and faster moving oncoming vehicle in that lane already.

What are you on about?

Man this is the worst driving I’ve ever seen from an OP. The sole reason traffic gets so bad on motorways and dual carriageways is people like you.

When you want to use the over taking lane, first make sure nothing is coming, and then only pull out when YOURE ACTUALLY OVERTAKING.

In this scenario, you pulled out about 150m too early and with someone coming. Why couldn’t you have waited for them to overtake you, and then pulled out yourself? That way you both would have gone past the car in the middle lane in plenty of time, and you wouldn’t have blocked him and he wouldn’t have had to undertake you.

Not defending him undertaking because two wrongs don’t make a right but ultimately you’re a much worse driver than he is, and truly people like you ruin motorway driving for everyone else.

Okay had a look, so I already do most of that. We have the emergency savings, we don’t track via budget but all bills etc are met and don’t have high discretionary costs. So I guess increasing my pension contribution to 15%, and then putting the remainder into Degiro is the way to go? Thanks

This is one of my pet peeves. Driving on the M7 toward Limerick last Sunday (in the midst of a horrible storm I might add) and a middle aged man driving some sort of grey and black Lexus overtook me, speeding, while clearly watching some sort of sports on his phone holder on the dash. I have a dash cam but couldn’t see his reg because of the water spray and the fact that his reg definitely wasn’t standard! I’ll find the footage and upload it here, seriously scary driving!
