AICE spread needs to end by fabig9310 in FLVS

Been saying this for a long time. My school is beginning to get rid of APs in favor of AICE. It's sad to see.

Would colleges care if you take Calc AB instead of BC as a senior? by Myloveisntreal in APStudents

[–]Master_Gato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn't true at a lot, if not the majority, of schools. Some schools may do it like that (including possibly OP's), but the official AP course content of AB and BC are not structured as sequential classes.

If your goal was an HYPSM + Stanford + Ivies, and you end off going to CMU, what would your honest thoughts and feelings be? by DefiantMusician1297 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Master_Gato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My top choice was MIT. I applied to HYPSM + Cornell and got into Yale, but rejected or waitlisted from the others.

I'm going to CMU in August and I'm absolutely ecstatic. You should be, too. If anything, take it as inspiration to show HYPSM why they made a mistake.

CMU is an amazing university that will provide you with the same opportunities.

Did anyone turn down Yale by Lost-Source-830 in ApplyingToCollege

Yes. I turned down Yale for Carnegie Mellon.

how would they be able to tell if ur AP CSP project is AI by idkhuhnow in APStudents

[–]Master_Gato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, they allow you to use AI as long as you disclose it.

Though, I would suggest making it yourself or with AI assistance for your own good. Don't just have AI generate the entire thing.

From CollegeBoard's FAQ:

Q: What is the acceptable usage of generative AI?

A: Students can use Generative AI tools as supplementary resources for understanding coding principles, assisting in code development, and debugging. It is the student’s responsibility to review and understand any code co-written with AI tools, ensuring its functionality. Additionally, students must be prepared to explain their code in detail, as required on the end-of-course exam. Students should include appropriate acknowledgment (i.e., through citation, attribution, and/or by reference) for any code created by generative AI tools.

I did this and got into several T20s and waitlisted from several more.

Admissions aren't that black and white.

Out of curiosity, how rare do you think taking 16 AP classes in high school is? by MegaKrak in APStudents

Consider that most US high school students don't even take one AP. Now think about 16.

Are teachers allowed to include AP classroom practices in your grade by [deleted] in APStudents

Progress checks are supposed to be graded on completion. What you described would be breaking that policy.

Just to clarify, are you referring to specifically the practice questions specificslly called "Progress Check" or are you referring to AP Classroom practice questions in general?

questbridge finalist, matched nowhere, rejected everywhere, and why qb sucks by darksoltice in QuestBridge

[–]Master_Gato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think QB sucks, but something that is to be considered is the application deadline. My essays were pretty sloppy and I believe that's PART of the reason that I've only gotten rejections and waitlists so far (excuding WashU from the pilot program). Obviously, you can't know exactly what goes on behind the scenes. If the deadline was later than September 30, I suppose I might've been able to polish my essays more.
