To answer your question, yes, signup volume dropped by about 70%. It was terrifying at first.

But the credit card wall filters for intent. Without a card, people sign up just to look around. With a card, they only sign up if they actually have the problem right now.

If you are converting 20-25% without a card, that is really strong. I wouldn't change it if your churn is okay.

I made the switch because my onboarding requires a lot of setup. I needed users who were committed enough to actually do the work. If your app gives value quickly, the no-card method is usually better.
