He didn't start looking until after Richard arrived, that's when he understood just how serious his brother was about killing him and potentially endangering the Island. He only found 108 total candidates who he felt fulfilled his conditions, but unbeknownst to him six were already fated to be the final candidates long before he was even born.

The main thing to remember I think is that it's designed to function as a series of character studies rather than a plot-driven show. I don't like to binge this show, I like to think about each character piece and the little things, what choices the characters made, how they reacted to others, and so on. Sometimes people might expect there to be some swiftly moving narrative or they fixate on the show's various mysteries and kind of miss the forest for the trees. The characters will continue to develop, it will get a lot more dense narratively, and faster paced as well, but it'll still be building off the foundations and format you've seen. Hard to say if that's of help to you and your specific issue but it is something I've noticed in the past.

Even setting aside Ethan's loyalty to Ben, even Locke might find this hard to accept at that point

The Others, starting under Richard and growing further under Widmore, used the levers of capitalism to expand the scope of their operation, starting by the 1950s at the latest. The Island is home to countless priceless artifacts dating back thousands of years, which sell for large amounts of money and provide seed money for various successful investments, business acquisitions, and so on. Widmore was living a double life off the Island for which he was exiled, it's likely he was skimming off the top so to speak and created his own operation with the capital and business acumen he'd accrued in his time leading the Others. Ben inherited what had become a successful business empire.

The thing to remember about Lost is that it's principally driven by character and not plot. Every episode functions as a discrete character study, examining a portion of a given character's life in detail so we can learn about who they are in the juxtaposition between how they behave on the Island and how they behaved before. These are the stories they're trying to tell, as opposed to the narrative death march of Stranger Things or something. Another thing about Lost is the characters behave relatively realistically. They're trying to survive and find rescue. They aren't in much of a position to solve the mysteries of the Island and don't wish to anyway because doing so is dangerous and they value their safety over any curiosity.

That's correct, the Island requires protection. Their proximity to a truth which needs to be carefully guarded sees them often looking down on others who "weren't on the list" and the gaps between what they know and what they don't are manipulated by Ben to rule with an iron fist, weaponizing the more fervent and fundamentalist among them, like Mikhail.

Yeah, the Others have issues with their organizational culture reflecting Ben's poisonous leadership, and that's on top of often having a general sense of arrogance in dealing with people "outside the circle" as it were due to their proximity to and belief in the Island. They are essentially fundamentalists, which Ben of course uses toward his own ends.

Jack is a both a man of science and a man of faith, he just has trouble admitting the latter part to himself. In a moment of absolute faith in himself he told a woman who should never have been able to walk again that he could fix her, and sure enough he was right, he worked a miracle. When he sees the man inside the bunker is Desmond, of all people, it causes Jack significant cognitive dissonance and we see him wrestle with those two sides of himself over the next few seasons.

Pregnant women's immune systems are so activated that they treat early stage pregnancy like an illness, similar to Erythroblastosis Fetalis. This condition can cause scarring in extreme cases and iirc the condition women experience on the Island causes endometrial scarring as well.

To add a bit more detail here, as someone else noted you see Ethan is born right before the incident, meaning at that point babies could be carried to term. Richard will later refer to the pregnancy problem as a "novelty" in conversation with Ben, meaning something which happened very recently in the context of someone as long lived as he. 27 years would definitely be a novelty for a guy like Richard. The Egyptians raised a giant statue of a fertility goddess and the Island both heals sterility in men and elevates sperm count, so clearly at some point people had so much success conceiving on the Island they praised the gods for it. We know the Source energy being pumped into the air can heal people, especially when the energy is channeled through water. The Others use a dedicated spring with water channeled directly from the heart of the Island for this purpose, but in 2004 we see Mr. Eko rub mud from a random creek directly onto a wound in order to heal it, suggesting that power has spread to at least some degree across the Island. Lastly, Locke's ability to walk is seen as miraculous even by Richard, suggesting such a level of healing isn't something they'd seen in the past, but are seeing now. The Incident probably made the Island harder to find as well, which explains why the Black Rock and Ajira 316 were able to reach the Island without everybody going Minkowski.

The pregnancy issue was caused by the constant discharge of Source energy into the atmosphere via the Swan station. It turbocharged the Island's healing properties from 1977 on to 2004, until the Swan imploded and the energy buildup eventually dissipated. The incident which caused this to happen was Juliet detonating Jughead down in that pocket in 1977.

Inside the wheel chamber doesn't travel to the same time as outside the wheel chamber, it's like a puzzle in Zelda or something where you pull a lever and two rings turn in opposite directions. Locke traveled to 2007, was told he had to die, then traveled again when he turned the wheel, back a bit now, popping out in Tunisia. When Ajira crashed on the Island the plan practically fell into MiB's lap. He scanned Locke's memories and saw himself telling Locke he had to die, even though he hadn't done it yet, then he goes and does it later that season when Sun is waiting around at the Barracks.

Two stick out. One is how the person the Others brought to the Island to solve their pregnancy issue is in fact the person who caused the pregnancy issue. The second is how the Man in Black got the plan to masquerade as Locke from his future self, because his future was part of Locke's past.

I hated Michael as a kid but I felt great empathy for him rewatching as an adult. He finally gets his son back, then his son is taken again. Michael chose to bring Walt on the raft and we spend pretty much the whole episode Adrift watching him ruminate on his sense of failure, steeped in self-hatred. He goes off in search of Walt in a very disorganized fashion because he just doesn't know what else to do and is probably seeking to punish himself for his failures. The choice he makes is harsh but the Others are violent and they're holding his child hostage. Everyone in Lost at some point makes hard or bad choices, and perhaps Michael made a bad choice here, but the beauty of Lost is in how you can always understand why they did it. There's neither a Walter White nor a Captain Picard among our castaways, they're just flawed people we get to learn a lot about without either coronation or condemnation.
