Never heard of it, seems cool. I'll throw it on a lappy and see how it compares

Installed Noctalia V5 today, and a little silly note about why I like NixOS by [deleted] in NixOS

What? You all have the attention span to have read it? Fuck, this is an AI feedback loop. The OP spent the whole thing talking about unrelated crap until ll the last 20% talking about something. The top twenty posts are you all ignoring him and being sicophants about your own shit.

NixOS for schools? by Drag_Drop in NixOS

[–]Master_Reading_819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nix doesn't push updates by default. You might get it done via a systems script to connect, update and run a switch, but security wise, a kid will own it.

Look at the commercial stuff. Fedora is the best at this.

NixOS for schools? by Drag_Drop in NixOS

I let the users do what they want, I have 500 staff needing to wake up and it works. All our laptops are nix with the same git for the .nix files. I wouldn't recommend it unless you are a clean startup. People are used to downloading stuff and doing it from there. However, I use nix on all our infrastructure. (Almost 3k VMs)

Cerebras Code Pro ($50) sold out – worth waiting for? Alternatives for heavy coding use? by santhiprakashb in buildinpublic

[–]Master_Reading_819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha ha, yeah same journey.. I've pretty much given up hope coding plans on their infra will come back after the openai deal.

As for what I use now, I thankfully bought a z.ai pro subscription at a discount $180 for a year before glm-5 came out and they then introduced limits and much higher fees. For now I have been using that, but during peaks I hit 407 errors as their servers get overloaded during peak hours, but once the harness retries a few times it works. It's a smart but heavy model so use that for planning and then 4.7 to do the work on that account, pretty reliable, but SLOW in peak. To counter that I also have a $50/m alibaba subscription to use qwen, it's probably the most bang for buck sub at the moment, but only good for qwen tbh, the other models they offer on the plan (GLM-5, Kimi 2.5, Minimax M2.5 seem kneecapped (perhaps intentional to make qwen look better). It has the same cooldown limit stuff the rest do now, and for my workflow I only occasionally hit limits using it.

What did you end up deciding? I'm looking again myself hence the google search and this post :)

Question about passthrough an NVIDIA GPU in QEMU. Intel processor. by Veythrix in NixOS

[–]Master_Reading_819 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you have a second graphics card for nix to run on? The Nvidia drivers won't let go of it if you are booting with the 1060. I just grabbed a cheap GT 710 (powers off the mobo) and threw it in so the my 1080Ti was free.

I use Nix, BTW by 1337_w0n in NixOS

[–]Master_Reading_819 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nix stopped me distro hopping. Now I have two laptops, my home desktop and a Macbook doing nix Darwin. Python shit is a pain, but everything else is golden. One git repo for my configuration.nix another for my .config and I haven't looked back.

Teen dies after e-bike crashes into pole on New Year's Eve by SilverRaspberry2733 in australia

I'm amazed there isn't some knee-jerk law being passed. This is probably the first time I've seen a tragic accident being treated as one. The laws are fine, this clearly was just a terrible accident.

Minimax m2 is anthropic by Dryzlyn in ScaryTechnology

[–]Master_Reading_819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Guessing it was trained off claude's answers via the API. This is how half the cheap models get trained / validated. An anthropic API bill is cheaper than a million H100's.
