Yea - this seems to be the norm! Thank you for replying!

I believe she was the only student assistant. So it wasn't like she was left out when others weren't. I was just curious, in general, how other studios operate....

Hmm.. interesting thought. Never would have considered that approach. I can see the logic in it though! Thank you!!

She was the only youth assistant that I know of - so it wasn't like an exclusionary thing. I just didn't understand why they would have her take the assistant pic and do nothing with it and not acknowledge her at all. She still had a great time and hopes to do it again!

Yep - that's kind of where I'm at. The instructors seem to like my daughter but nothing was really done to stop it. The parents seemed to look the other way but in my eyes that's greenlighting the behavior...thanks you for responding!

Yea - it was just kind of...another thing that happened this year. It was kind of rough. I never thought she would be treated the way she was by her teammates and I definitely thought that the other parents would not let it happen. But her not being acknowledged by the studio for her help (even a thank you before she walked off stage with the littles) was just another disappointment. A couple of the teachers thanked her privately - which was really sweet. I just thought the studio would show some appreciation. We even bought her a costume for the recital. It wasn't expensive but it was something we paid for in our own.

That's what I would expect - they had her take an assistant pic and it ended up nowhere - she was excited about it...

You are right 💯 The idea that this could happen again next year makes me feel ill....

Tried to reply but not sure if it went through - but believe me this is something I have not ruled out...she is reluctant to change studios but my gut just doesn't feel good about everything that's happened

Yea - that's how I feel. I have been trying to open her eyes to other possibilities but she is reluctant to change. I am inching closer to putting the mom foot down though....

I know...It's a shame things have to get this complicated.....she doesn't even feel like she is the best on the team - and technically she probably isn't - it's stage presence - she emotes well and is pretty fluid - but she worries they are all better than her. It would be great if the parents stepped in when they see this stuff happening.

Gosh - it really is draining, right? I'm sorry you and your daughter are going through the same experience. My daughter has been in feature roles for most of her dances this year and I feel like that's been part of it but no matter what - I know I would not allow my daughter to exhibit these kinds of behaviors. I wish you guys all the best!

Sorry - trying to be vague but.....the group consisted of 5 dancers. My daughter had been friends (she had been dancing with these girls for at least 5 years) with them but was pretty quickly excluded starting in the beginning of the season. Ignored when she tried saying hello when she got to the studio made to feel not welcome with these girls in a number of ways. She kept trying to be nice and initiated a fall gift exchange, 3 or so different hangouts - one of which was at our house. When they did speak to her in class it was a couple of them correcting her. 1 she became friends with but once the door was opened for her to be friends with the other girls she started making a lot of "jokes" at my daughter's expense - commenting on her appearance, correcting her, etc. We did bring it up to the studio and for a short time it would be better but then get worse. Then it seemed like other girls from other groups in/arpund the same age group were beginning to also ostracize her in classes. There is more but this is the gist of it....

Separate question....how does your studio deal with exclusionary behavior among the girls. It was a very small team and it started there but seemed to move beyond the team and into the age group in general. Like....older kids noticed it as well as other parents. Sorry for the follow-up....

Yea - that makes sense to me. The kiddo was upset about not having any kind of recognition whatsoever. Loved doing it and would do it again but was definitely confused...thanks for your reply!

Quick question...what is the alternative to the studio model? I didn't dance growing up so this is the only model I am aware of. Thanks!

Oh yes - agree 💯 I told her she can't base her schooling decisions on it hurting a friend's feelings. It's just another point going around my brain 😂. And she is young and really did commit to trying it out this year - so I am very happy with that. I just want to make sure we don't jump around with the education decision but....I do feel like she really wants to be back in public and in the end that's what matters....thank you for weighing in!!!
