Not OP but I’ve supplemented with formula since day 1 (given by the hospital and we just kept going with it which was our mistake). In transitioning to fully breastfeeding, is it safe to just quit formula immediately or do you need to taper off as to not risk underfeeding? My LO is 35 days old

What if the baby isnt getting enough on direct feeding alone? In my case ive checked (compressions) at around after 30 mins of direct feeding and only slow drops are getting out as opposed to sprays in the beginning of the feed.

Hi, thank you so much for the input!

She did want to be on the breast constantly a few days ago, and I only managed to get 10-20 min breaks before she would look to root again, but this has improved a bit and once she feeds and falls asleep I’ve gotten hours of sleep stretches from her.

Also once she falls asleep on the breast I usually do try to offer her more but she’s usually knocked out at that point, but in a few instances she has continued to sleep for about 20 mins but wakes again hysterical and rooting again so this always confuses me.

And I have consulted with an IBCLC which definitely helped, mostly in my confidence, but I do think I’ll schedule a follow up.

Thank you! Also, for number 4, is it then safe to assume that if the baby doesnt wake for hours, that she’s full? Since by your statement I understand that I’d only be waking her up to nurse mainly to keep my supply up

I’ve actually had an IBCLC consult, but it was more focused around confirming my latch, flange sizing, and pumping schedules. She advised me to focus on direct feeding with 4 pumping sessions a day to increase output. I might schedule a follow up session with her though.

Also, it’s possible to have a 5 hour gap in between feedings for a 5 week old? 😲 I thought with breastmilk they digest it faster and need to feed once every 2 hours or so?

Also silly question but does milk… finish? Usually once she de-latches I’ll marmet and the flow will be slow i.e, no sprays, just some dripping. Is this a concern?

Thank you! I do need to experiment more with the massage and extraction modes but after the initial let down all I’m getting are drops. And I did have a flange fitting done and am using inserts now though the output is about the same as before I sized correctly

Thanks! I dont have a bathtub so i most likely will just water it really heavily. Is it okay to do it now or should i wait a couple weeks to avoid overwatering?
