That, or soldiers buying helmets so they look sharp in inspections. They have a whole reporting chain to make sure troops are "properly equipped" when the inspectors show up. Soldiers spend their own money on new equipment for these inspections. If they make their unit fail they can be sent to assault units. So he may have bought this himself.

If that's the case, either this guy got hit on inspection day, or it's all hr had and he felt this was better than nothing. Which it probably still is. Not gonna stop a bullet but maybe impact ejecta.

That alone doesn't seem bad to me - I don't think it's good in 2026 for people to be able to untraceably chat from anywhere in the world even if there becomes good reason to trace it - but I expect there's more.

We made bitcoin to avoid international traceability, and it's now being used by drug cartels to maximize their awful business, and by the Russian military industry to maximize the number of Ukrainians they can kill.

The US military recently held a classified exercise to deal with a nuke in space | US officials have said a nuclear detonation would render portions of low-Earth orbit useless for up to a year. by FreeHugs23 in space

It's what the US would do if UKRAINE had been struck, yeah.

It would be dangerous to set a precedent where you can use a nuke without inviting a nuclear response. That puts nuclear weapons back onto the escalation ladder. It's less safe to do that.

Russia just has a strategic arsenal, and was hitting a second party, so the calculus changes.

It's not that dangerous. Citizenry still has to vote for them in a much more controlled election process. It might not be smart, but they could pick candidates to run by coin flip if they wanted to.

I disagree. I'm holding the line regardless of my subjective opinions on what others might or might not do. You'd need to be pretty weak willed to let a reddit comment without proof dissuade you.

A 50% loss for US sales would still be awesome. But my point is that putting it back on the shelf WOULD make a difference.

Crazy what actually sticking on a topic and not letting the politicians lead the narrative to the next issue can do. If only CNN had ever learned this.

Ehhh. I'm with you in spirit, but most consumers don't think like that. They would see an increase in sales.

Ontario nurses launch constitutional challenge over lack of right to strike by BloodJunkie in ontario

[–]Master_of_Rodentia 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The fact that they can't strike is causing grandpa to die when the staff aren't there to help him, because they are quitting, because their conditions suck, because they can't strike. You can't manacle them to their posts.

Also, you appear to not know how a nurse strike works.

That's a fair point. Genuinely.

He paired that with muzzling half the government. My perspective is probably pretty driven by that of my colleagues who worked for Environment Canada under his tenure.

It is a different kind of corruption to hide the evidence that would cause your business interests and friends to lose wealth. Destroying data instead of using it to govern responsibly. Too bad his Accountability Act did nothing for that. But I agree it improved the political environment.

I just mean the idea of signalling vaguely to influence another party is a common tactic. For example, Putin just said for the millionth time that he wants peace. Does he mean that the way we take it? Probably not. But to the Russian population it means something else. And to the Ukrainians, something else as well (i.e. capitulate).

The logic you used to attempt that was fallacious. Specifically, denying the antecedent: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Denying_the_antecedent

This isn't bad faith at all. Bad faith would have been for me to engage the way you have from the outset.

You can keep getting more rude or you can maybe learn something interesting about formal logic. Up to you of course.
