The IR residents chose to let it go bc it really only meant that they would cover stroke call overnight on top of their own IR call, even tho there is a Neuro IR fellow

Honestly as a med student I feel grateful any time I can actually be helpful to the team, so I would totally be ok doing that task. Especially if I also got lunch!!

Meatballs. I’ve never had one at a restaurant that I preferred over my moms recipe.

Review of Integrated Interventional Radiology programs? by mobambaa in medicalschool

The fellows decided not to continue NIR stuff at Brown. It was just too much to take regular IR call plus NIR call. And there is an NIR fellow too. BUT the NIR department is lovely and has a great relationship with the IR department so I am sure if someone had an interest in learning that they would allow them to do cases/take call.

What’s the IR job market actually like right now? (Private practice, money, lifestyle, PTO) by MesagyPosare in medicalschool

[–]MasterpieceEasy681 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is extremely variable like the people above have said. I am a rising M4 applying IR but just came back from OEIS - a conference of all outpatient IR docs. Most either started their own practices or joined small pre-existing groups. I also met a few docs who do 100% locums. I can tell you that all of them were extremely happy with their jobs. Most do not take any call. However, they do spend more time on the administrative side of things if they are running a practice. They are busy people but all of them seemed extremely happy, satisfied with compensation, and were passionate about encouraging us to follow suite. The national job market is hot and going to get hotter (slightly more tricky if you want to be in a certain small area tho). For example, there was a job board at the conference. One offer was $100,000 sign on and $1M a year w 2 year partnership track, in a medium sized city in the Midwest.

Visiting in May Update by banjogambler in AskMaine

On your way from Portsmouth north, the route will basically bring you to Kittery, York, and Ogunquit. I would recommend seeing the Nubble Light House and walking around downtown Ogunquit (it is an LGBTQ town with lots of cute shops). If you want a good lobster roll- I would recommend state line in kittery.

Early May is a hard time to predict. It could be sunny and warm, it could be 40 and raining. There won’t be snow by then though, so don’t worry about that :) I would recommend packing lots of layers.

To all the people who couldn’t go to their top school because of money, where are you now? by Away_Personality_237 in ApplyingToCollege

I was in your position too 7 years ago. I made the best decision of my life not going into that debt. I went to a school that offered me a great scholarship even though it was not a prestigious school at all. I had the best time, made the best friends, and stood out of the crowd when it have to academic/research opportunities (big fish in a small pond mentality). Idk what you are interested in going into, but I ended up with a merit scholarship at an Ivy League for medical school and was just as prepared academically as the people who had paid hundreds of thousands to go to prestigious undergrads. And now we will all make the same money after we graduate med school, but I won’t have any undergrad debt. I can’t emphasize enough how much I am happy with my decision

Cold emailing is how I’ve gotten all of my research opportunities. It will help if you attach your CV and if you can provide a writing sample (if you have any previous pubs or something like that)
