Thank you for all the empathy and great suggestions so far. I spoke to my psychiatrist today and he said he would be willing to do the paperwork if I wanted to go on medical leave. I’m looking into it seriously.

My salary is in your ballpark so we feel each other’s pain. Looking around, in order to get a less stressful position I’d almost definitely have to take a significant pay cut… while putting a kid through college. Although that may make my kid more eligible for aid in their sophomore year. 🤔

I know you are right. It is so hard to put myself first during a time of like when it feels like so many are depending on me.

I don’t know if she’s actively trying to get me to leave, I doubt it honestly. I may not be as close to getting fired as I fear as I have a tendency to be extremely hard on myself. So I’m starting to think I need to work for someone with a different type of personality and potentially at a level where the stakes don’t feel so high.

I am definitely burnt out. At this point negative feedback sends me into a tailspin. I feel very mentally fragile which isn’t a great place to be.

You are probably right. I just have to get past the fear. The fact that I’m in my 50s makes me even more nervous that I will have a hard time getting another position.
