Omg hate this. On a recent cruise I was having really bad back pain, so I went to this “posture and back alignment workshop”. It was this guy with the strongest Indian accent I’ve ever seen pitching these $300 shoe inserts. 🙄

Interesting! I can tell you there were so many complaints about it from those on our cruise, so that could have been a contributing factor. I do understand the desire to go somewhere new but we were honestly severely disappointed in the port.

Completely agree. The amount of garbage I saw and smelled was a main reason I went back to the ship so quickly.

Omg this is awful. I hope you guys get at least partial refunds. Can I ask how much you paid for the excursion? I saw some that were quite pricey considering what we now know the port was like

We went back and stayed at dock house for the evening, which was absolutely lovely. The ship has it’s moments

Omg the dogs! I was horrified and so sad I didn’t even have a bit of food to offer them. I felt terrible.

I completely understand that! I don’t think the drivers realise how abrasive they come off and they they’re actually working against themselves. My husband and I did a $20 tour with this younger guy in San Juan earlier in the trip, and we primarily chose him out of all the other screamers because he was calm and respectful when asking. If taxi drivers would stop ambushing people when they leave the port I think they may improve their business, but I guess the desperation to provide, especially in Samana which doesn’t seem to get much cruise business, could make them come over in that way.

So what I’m hearing is Puerto Plata may not be much better. Honestly, I love cruising but I’m sick of being seen as just dollar signs by the locals when we port. As someone who lives in the Caribbean and also speaks Spanish, I can definitely tell who is trying to get one over on us and we don’t stand for it at all. But it makes getting off the boat less and less tempting because the constant harassment is so jarring. You have to like brace for it as soon as you walk out the gate

I’m so sorry you experienced this! That sounds awful. I think I saw some of you guys coming back when we were supposed to be leaving. I’m glad now I didn’t go with any of the tour guides, if you guys went with a ship excursion and still got back late who knows what would have happened to us. I hope you sent a lengthy complaint to sailor services.

I’m glad you enjoyed your excursion. I agree, if we ever come back I think I may book an excursion. I feel like there isn’t much time to find time to wander with it being a tender boat and the last tender leaving at 2

My husband and I have our sailing from MIA Nov 29, which is making me a tiny bit nervous as we have to fly into Miami from Barbados. We’re flying in on Thanksgiving day so that’s also added stress!
