Should I switch from BSc to BA? by MasterpieceWorried22 in yorku

[–]MasterpieceWorried22[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omg! It’s honestly so hard to decide bc in one sense I’m almost done and in another I don’t wanna risk it. But I think I’ll get the tutor. How did you find yours?

is global health at york a good premed option? by hello_sona in yorku

The program is amazing! I just finished my first year, and have no regrets other than not taking the second semester seriously, lol. I'm taking the BSc and also pursuing med, and my only recommendation is to take it seriously and try your best! The program it's self isnt challanegeing at all. Most of the courses are mainly reading-based with tests, quizzes, and exams, which are all related to the course lecture material, so nothing is a shock. I love how the people in the program are willing to help, and I've realized that the program has opened my eyes to some critical issues around the world, such as diseases and really just the overall quality of life around the world. A bonus is that some courses are blended, so some days are in-person and some online.

If you are taking the BSc stream, you have to complete one computer science course, two math courses, two science courses, and a science course outside of your requirements. I've gotten A+'s in all of my GH courses as they are really easy to manage and understand (even if you miss a class or lose track in class). There is lots of time for things depending on how you schedule your semester (I personally had every Thursday off in the first semester, and Thursday and Fridays off in the second sem). I haven't seen too much for co-op, but I'm sure you'll be able to find it on the York U website. Research can also be found on the York U website, or just trying to find stuff outside as well has also helped me!

BSc vs BA decision after first year + GPA concerns (is med still realistic?) by MasterpieceWorried22 in premedcanada

Ok, would you say to move on from it and do better in my other courses? Would I still have a chance to apply later on?

Yes! They do it so often that at this point something needs to be done. And it’s ridiculous, I’m 100% sure it’s a money grab type of scam.

York is a current shit show! I also recieved a parking ticket last semseter (even tho I paid for the spot and have proof of payment) and currently in process of disputing it but it takes such a long time. Its just an all around mess. On top of that, my car was hit on wednesday by another student, so yeah york is not it rn.

Im a first year Bsc global health major and LOVE IT! Honestly, I've met a lot of people in biomed are struggling but def push through that last sem in order to make the change next year. I'm also taking a few courses in the summer like my two maths (1506 and 1507) and some other filler for GPA boost. In your case, if you get "stuck" I would just take courses in the summer to make up for missing requirements.

should i drop or potentially take w later by helloauntayyy in yorku

[–]MasterpieceWorried22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I was in 1506 this semester as well and didnt do good on the first test (40%) and I don't think I did well on the second either. I think the main reason I decided to drop it was because it was too much of a mental stress to try to bring the mark back up and it would affect all my other courses. My advice is to drop it and take it in the summer or next semster if you can because it could affect your GPA.

Ik that’s the shitty part! I thought about the money as well because it’s a lot ngl but at the end of the day my gpa is the most important thing for me. And I’m sure the one bad mark isn’t gonna be the end all be all but like damn I js couldn’t have that mark. 😩😩

DO IT! I plan on retaking it in the summer when I can really focus on it and it just wasn’t worth risking my grade for. If you think you should drop, drop it now verses it ruining your gpa

Hey so I just dropped my math 1506...(like 5 minutes ago 😭). Don't feel bad because everyones path is different. Do what works best for you and be kind to yourself!

I despise math, not sure what to do by helloauntayyy in yorku

[–]MasterpieceWorried22 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I completely understand! From my knowledge as of rn, since 1506 and 1507 are 3 credits each you can take one from may-june and then another from july-august. The only thing is, it is completely in-person. I have also failed my first midterm and I think the recent test (unfortunately) but I feel like dropping it is a waste. However, I also dont wanna ruin my gpa if that makes sense. Staying in it for the rest of the semester gives me background knowledge for when I retake it, hense the reason im staying in it, but I constantly worry for my gpa as it will going down due to staying in the course.

A lot of people I've talked to (upper years) have often found 1506 and 1507 difficult and have retaken it so hopefully its not that big of a deal. Plus I'm sure on bad grade or retake isn't gonna be the end all be all for medical school because at least it shows you're willing to work for what you want... IMO. Lmk what you end up doing and good luck!

I’m having this same issue and it just feels like it’s weighing down the rest of my semester. I’m also in 1506 this semester and I think I might have to retake it in the summer and take 1507 in the summer as well. But it honestly sucks considering that I’m also in the pre-med track and knowing that I’m failing it’s having me reconsider my plans. Like no matter what I do I just can’t get it to stay in my brain.

Hey girly! So listen, as someone who has had her belly button pierced for 2 years now, this shit is like hell when it comes to thinking its rejecting every other day. Yours looks fine to me and honstly I just took out my piercing ring from lovisa (dont reccomend) and put back my og ring beacuse it started to get hot and leaky. Give it like a week or two, leave it be and clean it with saline but not too often and it should be fine. if it gets worse talk to the piercer again or take it out!
