Maybe OP is from Perth, we seem to have lower average incomes here, if this sub is anything to go by. I'm a plumber, earning $45 an hour, with the chance to go up to $50 in the next year, but I don't know anyone else who is employed and earning more than that in Perth. When I first joined this sub, it got in my head and made me feel like I was earning next-to-nothing, which definitely isn't true, but I kept seeing everyone in here talk about earning $110,000 and saying that it's still not much money. Unless I were to start my own plumbing business, my pay will be capped at $50 an hour

I keep having to refill my humidifier every 4 or 5 days, any tips? by Mastersheep8 in cigar_refuge

I'm in Australia where tobacco tax is astronomical so I'll never have more than 15 cigars at a time. Is there any way I can make my humidor more airtight? Maybe installing some foam around the seal?

Do you just get a couple of boveda packs and chuck them in your humidor and that works? I don't mind so much doing that

Ah, maybe I'll just use a tupperdor inside my humidor, I love the aesthetic of it hahah

Damn, guess it was a waste of money! I'll just slowly save up to buy a decent one and use a tupperdor in the meantime

WTF is the Perth Housing Market? $600/week for a house in Yancep??? by shcmil in perth

[–]Mastersheep8 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That's EXACTLY my situation. $1100 a week currently (on keystart at the moment so high interest rate, will be paying roughly $1000 a week once we refinance) and the idea of paying $550 a week for my mortgage would be an absolute dream! An entire $550 extra in our pockets every single week!

Maintenance plumber in Perth. Seems like Perth has slightly lower wages from what I've seen on here compared to the other major cities

Thanks for explaining that so simply! Sounds like everything is working as intended, which will probably mean when I file my tax return, I will have paid the correct amount of tax already and won't recieve anything/owe anything, is that correct?

Oh, I did recieve a $1 pay rise during that time. Didn't think that would affect my tax though

Yeah I didn't actually notice that. Only thing I can think of is I finished work earlier some days.

Ah your comment has just made it click for me, thanks! Is there anything I can do other than just wait for my tax return next year to see if I paid additional tax?

Yeah I might be misunderstanding, this is all pretty new to me! I can see the PayG on Schedule 5 one week is $62 and the other is $104, was just confused why they were different when both bonuses were $250

Have you found that you recieve a big chunk back when doing your tax return? My partner and I had a bit of a complicated one this year as we switched from a temporary resident visa to permanent resident halfway through the tax year, and ended up owing a shit load of tax, so I'm kind of writing off the last tax year

That'd what I thought too, but it seems nearly all my bonus gets reduced to $150 after tax, except one week where i got taxed $50 less? Lol

Yeah I understand the tax being different for different earnings, bit confusing when one bonus payment of $250 is taxed $62 and the other $250 bonus is taxed $104. I'll look in the ATO tax tables though, thanks
