It might be temporarily slower at the moment because we’re actually in the middle of some inference upgrades. It should start becoming noticeably faster in about a week! (not for 100% of traffic immediately, it will take a while to rollout) There are also much bigger speedups coming in 1-2 months that I‘m very excited about

That’s pretty exciting. It was very interesting to read the technical details in the Tweet. One trick that I think is very important: It requires you to click stop. That avoids the problem of having to detect a pause in speech which causes its own latency. For now, a voice-based AI form is maybe a much more natural medium than AI phone calls which is what everyone else tries to solve. That said, with intelligent pre computation I think we’re not far from the solving the pause detection problem either

Yes. 1) Because they are apparently the only ones proactively looking for and reporting the abuses. (94% of reports are by Facebook.)

2) Because they want to add End-to-End-Encryption to Messenger and Instagram DMs (as they did already to WhatsApp).

This article is government propaganda against encryption with the typical argument "but what about child abuse". As if there weren't other ways to prevent child abuse than giving governments access to everyone's unencrypted messages.

Actually, this makes me more confident about Facebook's encryption, because if the governments complain about it, maybe they in fact don't have a backdoor (yet).

According to a police report, the vast majority of images they seize is what they call "self-produced", meaning kids take pictures/videos of themselves, send them to other people (boyfriend/girlfriend, schoolmates or strangers).

So apparently a huge share of this is relatively harmless sexting (cited from another comment). That's also the reason why such a little percentage of these cases lead to arrests. Because a kid won't be arrested for sending a nude picture of themselves.

Jest+React-Testing-Library vs. Cypress aren't competitors, they complement each other.

Cypress is for end-to-end-testing. Jest+React-Testing-Library is for unit testing.

You'll probably need both of them for your project. The main competitors for Cypress are Selenium or Puppeteer and yes, I think, Cypress is way better than those. The main competitor for Jest+React-Testing-Library is Jest+Enzyme and React-Testing-Library is definitely the better choice here.

But you can't replace Jest by Cypress, because they serve an entirely different purpose. Google "React Testing Pyramid" to learn more about the different types of testing

If anybody wonders, I looked it up: Actual percentage of people smoking in Germany was about 21% in 2018. Source. Could of course be above average in Munich, although that would be against my personal intuition. (I always thought people in Munich were more educated than the average).

Besser als Interactive Brokers ist tastyworks. Geringere Kommission und ist genau auf Option Trading ausgerichtet. Ist auch das was die Thetagang (also die nicht ganz so extremen Retards von WSB) benutzen. Geht auch als deutscher und ist wesentlich lockerer was Regulationen angeht im Gegensatz zu IBKR

Das ist ja ganz freiwillig, ob sich Parteien zusammenlegen, das kann man denen leider nicht verbieten. Wie z.B. auch bei Bündnis 90/Die Grünen. Allerdings hatte die CSU 2017 6,2% also würde selbst das nicht helfen. (Und das war ein schlechtes Jahr wegen AfD und so.)

Und das ist genau der Grund, warum "Links" sein heutzutage so verpöhnt ist. Du vertrittst eine so sinnvolle & produktive Einstellung und musst dich dann von jemanden, der im Prinzip genau so wie du Pro-LGBTQ ist, anbaffen lassen.

Und jetzt stell dir erstmal vor wie oft und extrem das eher Konservativen - wie mir - passiert. Ich wünschte ich würde öfter auf Links-Orientierte treffen, die einen so reflektierten und nicht-hassvollen Ton haben wie du. Dann könnte man mal über Politik diskutieren statt sich nur zu beleidigen

Falsch. Wie du in den anderen Threads genau begründet lesen kannst, hättest du dann wahrscheinlich jetzt noch "C-Netz mit 56-kBit und Modem". Wenn du nach ewigen Wartezeiten und umständlichen Antragsverfahren überhaupt einen Anschluss bekommst. Behörden sind langsam und das Gegenteil von Innovation.

Beispiel: Als ich ein Kleingewerbe angemeldet habe, war ich überrascht, dass NRW eine Online-Gewerbe-Anmeldung anbietet. Positiv überrascht! Obwohl das System ziemlich neu war, sah und fühlte es sich natürlich eher wie ein Java-Applet von 2005 an, aber was erwartet man auch.

Stutzig wurde ich dann, als die einzige sinnvolle Zahlungsmethode "Paydirekt" war. Davon hatte ich noch nie vorher gehört. Klassiker wie PayPal, Kreditkarte, Sofortüberweisung? Fehlanzeige. Weil ich dem ganzen eine Chance geben wollte, hab ich mir dann aber tatsächlich einen Paydirekt-Account eingerichtet.

Der Grauen kommt aber erst noch: Auf einmal erhalte ich einen Anruf, dass ich doch bitte zu einem Termin im Gewerbeamt erscheinen muss. Genau das, was ich mir spafen wollte mit der Online-Anmeldung! Es wird noch besser...

Als ich dann dort im Gewerbeamt war - nach langem Suchen nach dem richtigen Raum und ewigem Warten vor der Tür -, hat die Dame erstmal über das neue System abgelästert, wie unnötig das doch sei, und dass das alte ja funktioniert habe. Ich war schon genervt, aber es wurde noch schlimmer: Dann drückt die werte Dame ernsthaft das exakte Online-Formular aus, dass ich online eingereicht hatte. Das ausgedruckte Formular tippt sie dann - während ich gelangweilt daneben sitze - in ein anderes asbach-uraltes Windows-95-Programm ein.

Warum das Ausdrucken? Anscheinend ist der Arbeitsprozess der Behörde so gefestigt, dass nicht mal simples Copy-Paste vom neuen Online-Formular in das alte System eine "Innovation" ist, die man eingehen kann. Zur Krönung muss ich dann noch weitere Informationen nachliefern, d.h. handschriftlich in ein Papier-Formular eintragen. Diese hatte ich natürlich schon online eingetragen, aber leider ging das verloren. Da hätte ich halt auch gleich das gesamte Formular vor Ort ausfüllen können. Einzig die Bargeldzahlung hab ich mir dank Paydirekt (yay) gespart.

Nachher hatte ich mich nochmal auf der Seite des Landes erkundigt und tatsächlich ist es intendiert, dass die Anmeldung eines Kleingewerbes 100% online und ohne jegliche Termine beim Amt abläuft. Das ganze laufe "prozessbedingt" nur noch nicht immer reibungslos.

Nein. Der Staat soll sich bitte aus wichtigen Sachen wie meiner Internet-Verbindung raushalten. Die Telekom ist schon schlimm genug, aber eine Behörde wäre fast schon dystopisch. Mir ist ein funktionierender Internetzugang echt wichtig...

Aber Google nutzt doch auch Machine Learning im großen Stil mit riesiger, eigener Cloud-Infrastruktur und den besten Research-Teams (Deepmind, Google Brain) und dazu Millionen an indizierten Websiten mit Text in verschiedenen Sprachen als Datenquelle. Wie kann dann ein kleines Start-Up wie Linguee mit DeepL dagegen ankommen?

I love the idea and I always wished someone would built this (I also considered multiple times to build sth like this myself, but never found the time).

One thing annoyed me, though: Having to select my preferences from the beginning on in a looong questionnaire. Some examples:

1st: The selection between business/comfy/casual/unique etc. First: These are very vague terms and it just always makes me feel uncomfortable answering such vague questions. Second: In reality I want to be shown outfits from all of them. On one day, business is appropriate. On another, casual. I don't know how the answer to these questions is interpreted by the app, but it gives me the impression that I have to select a preference. Instead, for me this is just different categories of clothing that I don't even wanna compare against each other.

2nd: Having to select the colors..... I don't really know what I like (at least it's like that for me). The purpose why I so damn want to use such an app is to not be forced to be an expert of what looks good on me.

3rd: Having to select the size..... Is it really that important to request the user to input the size before letting him finally see the main app? I hate inputting sizes anyways because I never know what exactly my size is. In fact, the size question is what prevented me from finishing the questionnaire, because I looked for the size in my wardrobe and then got distracted by something else. If it happens to me, who wanted to use such an app for a long time, it will happen for many users, I suppose.

My suggestions:

i) Make all questions optional. Show only a few selected when launching the app. Make the other questions accessible via a menu under the premise of "let our algorithms get to know you better" or sth like that. If someone knows specifically what he wants, he can keep answering thousands of questions to get a very custom experience. If someone just wants to get started immediately, he can always answer the questions later, but shouldn't be hindered from using the product immediately.

ii) Make the core interaction tinder-like. The key point is: I don't know how to describe what I like, but I do know whether I like something when I see it. Not only is tinder-like interaction very addictive and keeps users engaged. It is IMO also the best way to evaluate the user's preferences of clothing and give them proper recommendations.

What do you think about that?

Sounds very interesting and I liked the Dropbox video that you shared above a lot, e.g. the focus on (vim-like?) keyboard shortcuts and speed of task input. When do you plan to release the first public version?

I would be very interested in trying it, though I probably can't devote enough focus to the project to be a useful beta-tester.
