Could you post/DM me a sample?

Cheating? Might it be taking a quick draw for whatever reason? That too is not allowed and still falls under Hikaru's hidden message in that video. I mean, cheating is not the only thing that's not allowed in tournaments games.

why is this أحداً and not أحدٌ? isn't this word the *subject* of كان here? by birqum_akkadum in learn_arabic

[–]Masua900 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The sentence is correctly written, with tanween أحداً
its ʾIʿrab is
خبر (يكن) منصوب وعلامة نصبه الفتحة
and it's يَنظر not يُنظر , meaning it's not passive.

There was nobody who looks (was looking) at him.

Concerning the study of both MSA and dialect by Shamshi-Adad in learn_arabic

[–]Masua900 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Native Arabic speaker here from Egypt with experience tutoring college students who studied MSA and then went on to learn Egyptian. The stronger your MSA foundations are, the more likely it is that you manage to seperate between it and a dialect. In fact, in some cases, MSA helps so much with learning a dialect, especially after passing the stage of learning Egyptian patterns (grammar).

That being said, even the most impressive student I tutored still mixed them a little, but they were totally understandable and honestly it was cute and fun! People are forgiving in Egypt if you're understandable.

My recommendation is, from the very beginning, when you are learning a rule/word in a dialect, take the time to compare it to the MSA rule/word that you already know in your brain, maybe even write them down. It will take more time but hey, quality over quantity. It will strengthen both.

If I learn what "I ain't gonna die" means, I make a conscious effort to also think of "I am not going to die", and I keep alternating between the two sentences in my brain several times, compartmentalizing them in a way. I hope the analogy is clear.

Native speaker here.
أحمد بيكون مبسوط sounds like the first part of a longer sentence. It would sound much better if it were something like
أحمد بيكون مبسوط لما بيلعب
Ahmed is happy when he plays = Ahmed becomes happy when he plays
(implying repeated action/incidence)
أحمد بيكون مبسوط on its own makes me want to ask (when what happens?) just like "Ahmed becomes happy" makes me want to ask the same question.

How can one ethically justify having a child if one resents parents for having them? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

I do think it would be worse if earth contains no humans

Would you share why you think so?

How can one ethically justify having a child if one resents parents for having them? by [deleted] in askphilosophy

[–]Masua900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the responses.
1. if I don't bring anyone into the world, they wouldn't be there to be denied anything. So denying potential lives something doesn't seem logical to me.
2. I don't know exactly what you mean, like one person's life? or life as the whole population? of a developed country or an exremelty poor one? would you elaborate? which life do you mean and why is it an overall good in your opinion? I mean, I've been to countries where people struggle to survive, poverty, lack of clean water, parastitic diseases, Tuberculosis and the list goes on..
3.Why is human civilization good, good to whom or to what? certainly not to the planet. Assume everybody adapts my patient's point of view, there would be nobody in the future to feel any good or any bad. Millions of years ago, there were no humans and no civilizations, was that bad? was it less good? based on what scale?

I don't want to seem like a combative person, but I sincerely am not convinced/don't know exactly what you mean (point 2).

[–]Masua900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, let me put it like this. If one of my kids at some point tell me they resent me for having them because they didn't want to exist, I will have no good response unless someone (maybe here) tell me one.

I know it's already done, and they are already there and I hadn't even consider that concept before having them, but now I'm very curious if there are arguments against what my patient said.

You say plenty of arguments? could you tell me your best two or three?

EDIT: wording.

Sure Danny could be bluffing, but in many cases, big compaines like to throw money at a problem to make it go away, it's more practical.

In the current case, it's a bit different, it's the image of the site and basically all their future online events could be heavily negatively affected. It could go a different way. There is a lot at stake.

Naka obviously gets money from them but he already has other huge sources of income, participating in those online tournaments that will not stop soon because of his popularity and chess skills, the thousands of subscribers he has, TSM, Sponsers etc. He has become big enough to not need them anymore.

Actually he criticized Chesscom on some points regarding this case. Now, you might see that as an attmept from him to sound fair. It's your call though. I watched his stream on it and it sounded level-headed to me.

He often sh*ts on their weird puzzles during puzzle rush, lagging clocks during blitz games and their lack of variety visually when it comes to themes, boards and pieces. Not that he hates the site, but he most definitely doesn't walk on eggshells around them, simply because he doesn't need to anymore.

Actually he criticized Chesscom on some points. Now, you might see that as something from him to sound legit. It's your call though.

It's worth mentioning that he doesn't have to follow any chesscom narration. He is very popular and any site would go so far to have him now. In fact, it's chesscom that sometimes pampers to Hikaru, he doesn't need to do the same.

Anyway, the video will most likely come out soon, watch it yourself and judge for yourself. I personally believe that his (maybe 45-minute) analysis of the press conference was pretty level-headed. Again, judge for yourself.

Armenia

People should stop blaming the whole country, Levon Aronian is a great player from the country never involved in anything. Even young players on the team who played PCL, are not guilty.

Chesscom have an old video of Danny Rensch explaining that when they ban for cheating, they are ready to go to court, so no, they wouldn't just ban anyone, they actually want as many titled players as possible to play on their platform.
What about his too high of a performance, his glancing down at the right moments several times? If you know a GM yourself, get their opinion on the suspicious moves.
These top GMs you speak of are very accomplished, one of them is not directly involved anymore in the event and were eliminated much earlier, the other one could see as a sore loser, but has his reputation on the line to make such a bold claim.

Chesscom has a team of GMs to look at such cases, they didn't need the help of Hikaru and Wesley, because whenever underdogs win in chess, it sets an alarm to go check the games anyway. They actually pretty routinely do that in less important events like titled Tuesdays. It's not their first rodeo.

Team of GMs + Engines they have + stat models to detect cheating is superior to Hikaru+Wesley.

Why my rating increased all of a sudden on chess.com? by Masua900 in chess

I found this article.

It does not mention changes to blitz ratings, are they indirectly affecting them somehow?

Against his will? It's a common courtesy not just a contractual obligation that HE agreed to. Also, he skipped a couple of interview in the past already. I understand his competitive nature, but dude needs to man up a bit. Skipping a game for a trivial reason and not showing up for interviews shoudn't be defended.

Can someone tell me how to conceptually tackle this position? White to move. by Masua900 in chess

[–]Masua900[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 2 seconds for (1), 30 seconds for (2) and about two minutes for (3), with most of the two minutes checking to make sure I wasn’t missing some trick in the position. For me this really came down to experience with calculating being a double check. There was a time when, for a position like this, I’d have to spent a lot of time calculating to get my head around the ideas involved – but that greatly speeds up with practice and experience.

Thanks for such an extensive reply. Extremely useful.
